20K Water poured into Little Mermaid

ShookieJones

We need time for things to happen.
I don't know. I think it was a good move.
To me it at least shows that someone is aware that there are nostalgic die-hard yesteryear fans out there (here) - We complain so often that powers that be are out of touch etc. that at least this tiny, tiny, tiny little bone let's us know they're thinking of us ;). I'd much rather prefer a top notch, mind blowing, E ticket dark ride just like the rest of us, but I'll accept this meager sentiment for now.
Also I'm not real concerned about whether it's real lagoon water or not - again, it's the gesture.

I will agree that they it should have been one of the many imagineers that worked so hard on this project to perform the actual ceremony...

Did they call out the fact that this was MOMMY BLOGGERS? I just figured it was the folks that were in line at the time, employees or employees familes....

Either way, who cares. At least there was no big announcement about it... lol.

During Epcot's 25th, they also claimed to have taken water from different rivers and lakes around the REAL countries from the World Showcase to put into the fountain of nations. I also expect that was symbolic more than real too (although the 1982 opening ceremony where they did the same thing was probably real)
The same was also done for the opening of "it's a small world" at Disneyland back in the 1960s. Relatively speaking, I do not think acquiring that water would be very difficult. But I still do not understand why somebody wanted to save the water from this attraction. The lagoon was completely artificial, so its not like this was even one of the "natural" water features on property.

I just want to be clear. I don't have an issue with mommy bloggers, they're not the CAUSE of Disney's strategy the past several years, as much as they're the EFFECT of it.

I may write a post in the general info section later.

I'd like to see this overlay, if you would please.
I can't seem to lay my hands on the original overlay I did a while back, but here is a picture of Fantasyland that I found online (supposedly dated 1978 (which has been proven false))

All the trees and area behind the trees to the roadway was inaccessible to guests. Also the lagoon was basically wasted space as well as you simply circled it in order to gain entry into the 20K show building.

As you can see this is indeed an EXPANSION of available space for guests that they have never had access to before now.

That's not from 1978. Toontown Fair and Ariel's Grotto are open.

That's 21st century, the Skyway is all gone, but 20K hasn't been cleared yet. So 2000 to 2004 then, just to add further useless information. Now to wait for Marni, who could tell you the exact day based on the tech specifications of a speaker system he sees in some backstage area.

Here's the MK in 1978 as seen from the redeveloped area otherwise known as the expansion:

This whole thing makes me mad. Didn't they close 20K for a supposed refurb, then let it sit idle, stick a stupid King Triton statue in the lagoon and then cement it all up with a playground? If they REALLY saved the water from 18 years ago as the post claims, then they are ADMITTING they KNEW it was closed for good and not refurb and there was no refurb planned. Although - I too don't buy that it's actual water from 18 years ago and think it's a total PR move.
Those are surprisingly good points you make there.
