2012 Golden Tickets: SEA and Dolly Beat Out Disney In Most.

According to the 2012 Meaningless Awards, a swing set in my local park just beat out the Magic Kingdom for "Best Kids Area 2012".

My point is, while it is very upsetting that Disney would score so low, I don't think these results will have much of the general public cancelling their WDW trips in favor of a week at Dollywood instead.

Exactly.

while disney's showing was disappointing, how about my "backyard" amusement park- knoebel's grove!!!!! it's def not even remotely on the same scale, but the place is great- free parking, entry, and entertainment.

nice to see. :)

Love seeing Knoebels in the top so many times!! Grew up going there every summer. Great food, Haunted Mansion, carousel, and wooden coasters!!

i agree! we took elias once this summer (he's not yet a year old) just to get pics on the train with me and his pappy!

i spent many many days there as a child, but have only been back twice since i graduated high school- wow has it changed! i remember having to park amongst the pavilions, and driving through the street in front of the train ride.

it was really quite an emotional rush knowing i'll get to relive a part of my childhood, this time through my son's eyes!

Best parks and bang for your buck have to goto Knoebles and Busch gardens Williamsburg. We spent 2 days at Knoebles and 4 at Busch gardens, spent far less money for both and still didn't ride all the rides or see all the shows. I would say the new indoor ride at Knoebles, black diamond is hideous though, that schould't win anything.

Didn't use the formula I would have liked to because it would have been time consuming and I have other things more important that proving someone online wrong for my own pleasure.

So with that let's put it in on a level playing field.

Since Mk's capacity is 2.9 times the capacity of CP; correction of MK's to that rate would be around 5,911,034. In twelve months there condensed overall twelve months for MK... not 35k just removed. Chop that in half for the six months being open. Looks like if MK had 35,000 capacity and CP's area that CP would be the winner by a couple hundred thousand with a few ten thousand margin of error more than likely.

That wasn't exactly what I meant. I realize the show is not the "original" IllumiNations show that debuted about 25 years ago...I'm just saying it's interesting that the top spot goes to a "25-year old" show that has simply received upgrades over the decades and not a brand new cutting edge nighttime show. I for one am a huge IllumiNations fan, but it's the score that gets me moreso than the pyro and lighting.

I agree. It's the music that makes it so amazing. But, I do think that the whole experience is greater than the sum of its parts. It's subjective, though.

Perhaps Epcot "won" with more votes, because it had more traffic. Who knows.

Looking at a few Cedar Point forums, I see repeated mentions to a 65k max capacity at CP.
Looking at Magic Kingdom, I see a couple mentions around 100k capacity to make it to a Phase 4 closing.

65 is the fall during Halloween. Spring and summer is 35-45k. My post was based on 35l; even at 45k it still would not have varied much.

I will say that the landscaping at BGW is amazing.

As far as best new ride - RSR is the only "non coaster" on the list, which I find interesting.

I did get a chance to ride SkyRush at Hersheypark last week. That was the first time in a very long time that any ride intimated me enough to consider chickening out at the last minute. I didn't and it proved to be the most intense coaster I've ever rode. No inversion, but a 200 foot drop, 78 mph, feet dangling off the side of the track and just a lap restraint. "Air time" was amazing. It reminded me of Appollo's Chariot at BGW but on steriods.

Awards, ratings, and world rankings mean nothing to TDO, unless they have to do with $$$. Until they see a decrease in their profits that can't be corrected by another nickel-and-dime, property-wide price hike (turkey legs are now $10 at MK, BTW), their philosophy won't change.
