2010: Year of the Muppets?

I may not be making any sense, but might THIS ordinary lamp be the key to the answer??

You see, this lamp, installed on the side of the Lucky Fourtune Cookery in DCA, was installed quite recently in a restaurant changeover. What does this have to do with the Muppets?

A while back, annual passholders got to go on an trial adventure (not so unlike the KPWSA) with the MUPPETS. It involved a scavenger hunt around DCA and used the computer heavily. Once done, you went to the Blue Sky Cellar to claim a prize.

NOW, we have a suspicious Muppet ad campaign PLUS this lamp. The lamp was randomly added to the side of the building. It's not like it was needed; look at this picture!

It's RIGHT next to another lamp!!!! The lamp is styled in a way that has me thinking about the additions in World Showcase for KPWSA... what kind of special effect could that lamp do? And, as we had already discussed that Kim Possible was getting stale, could they be opting for Muppets? Some sort of quest to bring in the APrs would be GREAT during the refurbs, not to mention it would boost the attraction count!

I hate to burst any bubbles, but seriously if there was an interactive Muppet adventure coming to DCA, Al would have told us by now. The new lamp is part of the restaurant's new Chinese look (to reflect the change in menu) that will be opening in September.

It's just a nice decorative detail, you know, like the ones Disney used to put all the time on buildings for the heck of it. I see no reason why we should believe it's anything else as much as a interactive Muppet experience would be cool.

Maybe it's part of a phase 2? We didn't know about KP for a whiiiile after the initial testing.

Not true, I got all the instructions here, went down and did it, came back and wrote about it, then did it twice more in in the month after before they stopped testing. It was a hit around here.

I just doubt that any of the thousands of Annual Passholders at DLR didn't take any pictures of this test, or the prize, and furthermore tell nobody.

^Yeah, I was just making inferences. But still, the lamp looks quite different than the rest of the stuff around there. Plus, there's another paper lamp RIGHT NEXT to it, and it's in a bit of a different style, plus there's a lamp right above it. I just have feeling, ya know? I mean, it'd be a nice thing to show for D23, right?

And P.S, there actually WAS a test of a Muppet-themed Quest thing before (it was themed to time travel, I'll see if I can pull up a link), but it didn't have any interactive "in-park" features.

FOUND IT!

And here's the testing website:

I find it interesting that they kept the page up even though the tests for the quests were done back in 2008.

^Ah ha. I see.

Well, in theory now that WDI has fully explored the concept and advanced the programming here, a similar installation could be deployed at DCA.

That's an interesting theory. But the locations of all of this filming this week doesn't support the theory.

The Muppets are being filmed all over Disneyland this week, not DCA. They haven't done any filming in DCA, only Disneyland and the iconic rides found there (Dumbo, Mark Twain, Matterhorn, etc.).

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes a lamp is just a lamp. :D

Have you seen Aladdin? A lamp is not just a lamp anymore...

And a nice lamp at that! We might even see more between now and September 3rd when that place re-opens.

As for the theming looking awkward that may be an intentional move to give the space a layered feel, as if the family operating the restaurant renovated a pre-existing space.

There is also another big piece of concept art and other pics that showed what Muppet Studios was to look like for DHS..The only place I've seen this art is in the book Walt Disney World: Then, Now, & Forever...I must get my grubby hands on this book...

Really? It seemed it took them forever to get it up and running.

How long was it?

Man.... this all would actually make ME want to go to DHS!

Anything Muppets has to be good!!(pay no attention to my avatar) I certainly hope it is true. Would love to see more muppet M&Gs too. What I would give to see Marvin Suggs playing his Muppaphone, Lew Zealand juggling his fish, and Crazy Harry blowing something up!!(perhaps SGE????)

Ah well, one can dream. :D
