2 Resorts, Same Trip

Hey all...I have a question for any of you that have done this. I want to stay at POFQ for the first 4 nights of our stay, and then at WL for the remaining 3 nights. I am going to be getting the MYW Package with Dining.

Now...I understand I will have to book 2 seperate "trips" correct? (Because of the dining?) So...will I have to get a 4 day ticket for the first part and then a 3 day ticket for the second part? Or, can I just purchase a 7 day ticket and carry the days over to the second part of the trip. I do not think so, because you need to have at least one days ticket to be able to add the dining.

So...If I have to purchase 2 seperate tickets, it becomes very cost prohibitive to do the 2 resort thing, huh?

Am I understanding this correctly?
Thanks!

There was just recently another thread that addressed this same issue. I couldn't find it quick to link it. Basically though from what I read in that thread you are correct in your understanding.

If you want to have the dining you have to purchase two separate packages. You should probablt do the math because you might find that it is more cost effective to just be careful with your meals and buy a 7 day ticket separate.

Good luck!

I agree with the poster above on trying to do it WITHOUT the dining plan to save money on the tickets.

If I were in your shoes I'd make up a spreadsheet and compare the costs of buying 2 separate packages to the costs of eating each meal out of pocket and using 1 ticket.

If you stay at two different WDW hotels they are two separate vacations in WDWs mind. You have to be sure you have two separate confirmation numbers for each hotel. If they book both hotels on one number when you go to transfer to your 2nd hotel you'll find no reservation exists. We had bought our park tickets separately on a different card. We weren't on the dining plan either.
If my wife and I hadn't been so about confirming and reconfirming our reservations we would have had big problems on our vacation. The CM handling our resort reservations (5 nights at the YC and 5 nights at the Poly) lumped both together on the same confirmation number. Luckily we were able to get it corrected before we arrived.

Just remember that the day you move will be taken up by moving. You will have to be out of your first room by 11 but probally wont get your 2nd room till after 3 or later. We did this once and will never do it again. Stayed at POR for 10 days then went to the Poly for 2 more. We got up early packed put everything in the truck and drove over to the POLY. We checked our bags with bell services and checked in. Our room wasnt ready which we had planned and wore our bathing suits and went to he pool. About 3pm we checked and our room was ready so we hung out at the beach fora little while longer then about 4 headed to the room. Got there and the room was great but no luggage. We had a 6pm PS which when it was made thought we would have had plenty of time to get to. I called to see about the luggage and was told it was on its way. At 4:30 still no luggage. Called again and asked if I could come get it myself and was told that it was already on a cart headed to the room. 5pm rolled around and no luggage. Finally as I was calling again a knock at the door and it was there. By the time that bell hop was done it was like 5:15 and with having 3 people to get showers there bwas no way of making our PS. Staying at 2 resorts looks good on paper but in the long run you loose a day IMO not to mention the couple hours we sat aroung in wet bathing suits waiting.

Wow I think that's just a bad experience. We moved from WL to Poly a couple years ago mid-trip and the whole process didn't take more than 1-2 hours. We were completely settled in the new room before noon, and that even included moving our room TWICE because I wanted to see the castle from my balcony.

I'm glad to hear that switching rooms went smoothly for you! I would like to try in on our next trip to the world. My hubby is a little skeptical, though.

Btw, I love your avatar! :)

Since the price per day decreases with each extra day on your ticket, I wonder which would be cheaper: buying a 3 day pass and a 4 day pass, or buying a 1 day pass and a 6 day pass?

I don't have the prices in front of me, so I don't know. But if you do decide to do this and if you do decide on the DDP, do the math on all the different ways you could split the tickets up and see which way would be cheapest.

This was my experience as well. We checked out of the YC at 10:00 AM, we were hoping that our room at the Poly would be available right away or at least within an hour or so, so we could salvage most of the day. When we arrived at the YC 5 days earlier at 11:00 AM our room was ready. No such luck at the Poly we wasted about 5 hours waiting for our room to be ready. Next time we stay on WDW property we'll only stay at one resort at a time, resort hopping wasn't ideal for us.

If by "trip" you mean having to have 2 MYW package reservations, then yes, that is because of dining. But if by "trip" you mean just having to have 2 different reservations, well, that is simply because of the resort change.

If you didn't want dining on the second reservation, you could book the first reservation as a MYW package reservation, with a 7 day ticket, and then book just a room-only reservation for the second one. But since you want dining on both of them, you need to make 2 MYW Plus Dining package reservations, which include at least a one-day ticket on each.

Yea, I have heard mixed results on switching. Seems like either is goes very smoothly and quick or it is terribly slow. Seems like there is no in between. I was even told that by us taking our luggage to the poly ourself rather than letting bell services handle it would speed things up. One other thing ive always heard is to always stay at the lesser resort first and save the better for last.

oh my, this sounds like to much work for me too try to do. Is it really worth all of the trouble? I guess it would be fun but repacking all five of us and moving and checking in again, I just don't know about all of that. Maybe if it were just the two of us.

If you book your first package with 6 day passes, then your second one with 1 -day passes, you'll save about $100 per person I would think, since the price per day decreases dramatically the more days you buy. This would certainly sve enough to justify the dining plan expense. :)
