1986 - The House of the Future: Week 3

My own thought (admittedly from my own idea for a Silly Symphonies dark ride) was that it would take you through three of the shorts (my idea was Three Little Pigs, The Skeleton Dance, and Music Land). That way, we can reflect the variety of the shorts while still giving whole stories for guests to enjoy.
I really like that idea, too.

Maybe each of our dark rides could be a "stand-in" for an existing dark ride in the other Fantasylands? Like, our Peter Pan equivalent (the beautiful one) could be Mary Poppins, our Mr. Toad equivalent (the crazy, out of control one) could be One Hundred and One Dalmatians, our Snow White (the scary one) could be Sleeping Beauty or Nightmare Before Christmas, our Pooh equivalent (the upbeat, happy-go-lucky one) could be Robin Hood or the Silly Symphony ride, our Alice in Wonderland equivalent (the surreal one) could be Fantasia or Nightmare Before Christmas, and our Pinocchio equivalent could be... I dunno, Sword in the Stone?

Apparently, the original plans for MK Fantasyland when they were first designing it were going to be kinda like that. Like, they would have had a Sleeping Beauty ride in place of Snow White, and Mary Poppins in place of Peter Pan.

In any case, that might be worth something to consider, whether in terms of ride theme or ride type.

@TheOriginalTiki @mickeyfan5534 2 questions.

1. Can we still use the characters from Peter Pan and Beauty and the Beast and whatnot in meet and greets or are they off limits entirely?

2. Is the Tinker Bell franchise off limits too due to being part of the Peter Pan universe or is that a free grab?
I can't speak for @mickeyfan5534, but the limitations were in place mostly just to prevent cloned dark rides so I'll leave it up to him on rather Meet N Greets are okay. As for Tinkerbell, it wouldn't exactly be my first choice of IP but I'd say that's up for grabs unless Alex says otherwise.

VR Robin Hood Target Practice!
I worry VR would be tough to theme in a fantasy setting, but a shooter dark ride for Robin Hood could be great. Especially if it had a madcap crazy tone that could make it our Mr. Toad substitute.

I like the intentionality of our rides fitting the same archetypes. I wouldn't get tooooo worried or caught up with that if it starts to be limiting. But at least for a core 3 or so that's good to have in mind

Yeah, recapturing some (but not all) of the archetypes could be a fun way to have a grounding element for guests in our Fantasyland. From some shared archetypes, we can then branch out with different rides of our own.

A few such ideas for archetypes (and potential substitutes):
  • Classic princess dark ride (Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty in place of Snow White)
  • Rail-suspended dark ride (Mary Poppins or The Nightmare Before Christmas in place of Peter Pan)
  • Spinner ride (Sword in the Stone in place of Dumbo)
  • Manic dark ride (Robin Hood or One Hundred and One Dalmatians in place of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride)

There are so many Disney Princess’s that don’t have attractions (Pocahontas, Mulan, Jasmine) that we could honestly have a trackless attraction where we move through scenes of famous Princesses and their ballads (Colors of the Wind, Reflection, Once Upon a Dream) where the vehicles can (once again) dance to the music. The final scene could be the waltz between Aurora and Phillip or Cinderella and Prince Charming! Maybe narrated my the Fairy Godmother?

Locked off IPs for Meet and Greets or shows are 100% allowed. The banned list is purely for attractions.
Edit: Tinkerbell isn’t my first choice for IP either but if you think you can make something special out of Pixie Hollow, I say go for it.

  • Chicken Little Land
  • Mythos Land
  • Studio themed Fantasyland
  • Musical Fantasyland
  • Snowy Fantasyland
  • 4 seasons Fantasyland.
  • FantaSea
Sorry if I forgot something. It is hard to find stuff in all the nonsense last night lmao.

A ride with an original princess character as the host trying to learn what it means to be a princess taking us through scenes of classic princesses that inspire her could work. I'd picture it more as a boat ride myself than trackless. Something as a vague spiritual successor to Storybookland Canal Boats/Voyage to the Crystal grotto.

I can generally agree with that, though maybe one trackless dark ride wouldn't hurt. Only one, however.
I've got no problems with trackless, but the ride needs a reason to use that system. Or else you wind up with things like the new BatB ride in Tokyo which has one amazing scene and great animatronics, but most of the ride has giant empty rooms and slow pacing. Trackless just for the sake of it being the new tech or just for a single scene isn't good in my book.
