1986 - The House of the Future: Week 3

See how ridiculous this all is? I'm still not satisfied with Adventureland. It's great but nowhere near as polished as it could have been, the backstory is still hella complicated. And we have no live entertainment (besides the stunt show lol) or streetsmosphere to give the land it's needed atmosphere. We did a great job given the time but the ideas still needed to be polished.

Now in little under an hour we come up with a concept everyone likes and as far as I'm concerned this team is ready to go with seasonal Fantasyland. And we have ten days instead of four.

I understand the frustration my dude, believe me I was NOT happy with Adventureland, but it happened and it's over. But I at the very least am not settling on an idea here yet. I already made a post about it but we have been talking so fast it might be buried. But don't worry this is not at all set in stone and I am fully going to work on making this round different from the last.

Both can get it, if you know what I mean.

ALSO I know we got real excited about the four seasons and I do really love what we are coming up with but it has been less than an hour, AND we have found some issues with exactly what would go where so I would really advise against painting ourselves into a corner here. I love the idea and I am not saying we shouldn't I am saying however we had already talked and then brushed passed the music themed idea, and the Mythos themed idea (which we could do sections by which the fairy tale originated) and we haven't even hear from everyone. I love the energy but this is an issue we have hit before.

Personally I'm quite content with Adventureland for what we were able to accomplish, but also, the concept was birthed from my own mind, so I'm pretty attached.

That being said, I definitely think we have the opposite issue here. With Adventureland nobody could get on board with something and we didn't have enough time. With this, we all agreed quite quickly (though not set in stone) and we have a butt-ton of time.

It's too bad not everyone loves Adventureland as much as I do, but it is what it is. I love my convoluted 3-page, 11pt font, single spaced backstory and my 5 page animal document and I'm also four drinks in and emotional, but let's move on and kick some on Fantasyland

Alright, so @pix and @Outbound are right that we don't want to go toooo all in on seasons right now. But it is a broad and simple enough theme that it gives a ton of freedom.

Are there any other pitches anyone wants to explore a bit before we get too into this?
I know the Greek and/or Chinese mythology based sublands based on a similar layout to New Fantasyland was a cool idea.

I still think there is potential for a Movie Magic Fantasyland if we can overcome the tropes people usually associate with a Studio land.

Like I said we have cultural ties, music based, elements is always a good spit up, or we don't actually have to pick a "theme" at all. We might be over thinking this. By a lot. I know we all get excited but with this many of us we might need to chill out a bit for now. I know with my anxiety the thread moving this fast usually overwhelms me. It's not now, because Fantasyland is one of my favorite lands to work on but we have time.

I love the Adventureland! It just needed more time to polish how everything fit into the backstory and there was some confusion over some of the details. It isn't that any of the ideas were bad. It's just with the rush a lot things got kind mixed up or had loose connections rather than being the hugely detailed Thunder Mesa type experience it could have been.

But like you said, now is the time to drink and brainstorm fantasyland!

Don't get me wrong... I love it too. The biology you created was amazing, so were the drawings. And everything we made as a team is great. I'm more so disappointed we weren't able to fully expand upon the amazing concepts you created given the timeframe.

True. I think the strength of seasons that makes it so easy to hop in on is it is less of a theme and more of just a design principle. Which is smart.

And also, just a reminder for everyone (and definitely not just a reminder for me cause I have issues with this every other round but this one it seems)

EVEN IF EVERYONE SEEMS ON TRACK WITH ONE IDEA DO NOT BE AFRAID TO THROW OUT OTHER IDEAS> YOUR IDEAS ARE VALID AND WE WANT TO HEAR THEM AND IF PEOPLE KEEP TALKING OVER IT SAY IT AGAIN!

So to bring it BACH to Musical Fantasyland (just to elaborate on my pitch), we could have a few subsections for different genres.

Each attraction could be focused on the music. A Fantasia E-ticket, some smaller dark rides like Frozen, Tangled, Hunchback, etc. that have great music. A jazz-themed ride to Princess and the Frog, I think a Hercules ride whose story is told by the Muses would be neat. I am buzzed right now, so not the most coherent pitch ever, but it'd be unique (I also wanted to make that Bach pun SO BAD)
