Ok, probably a bad idea, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway.

How about making the ride a more mature, more darker experience? Or at the least, have a couple darker scenes to it?

Imagine coming to the load/unload thinking the ride is over, only for some 2/12D magic to transform it to an evil side representing dysfunction and chaos. The clock tower could look similar to this:
WlfEtiIFsDeTkRr7.jpg

There would be scenes of chaos with some of the dolls turning evil and structures "crumbling".

Eventually, the good dolls would come together and bring order back to chaos with unity and peace, or something like that, and then boats would return back to the dock.

Idk, it's a bit far-fetched, but a neat idea nevertheless.

Personally, I would steer away from that and keep the core of IASW as it is. The sheer optimism, paired up with the iconic art style and music, have helped to make the ride such a timeless classic.

I had an idea for IASW to have two different tracks. One is the typical boat ride and the other is a Peter Pan’s flight type system where there’s a separate experience. Almost like it’s a two story attraction. I had the idea based off some lyrics from the song:

Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide

One aspect is the oceans and the other is based on mountains.
The boat riders can look up and see the sky riders and vice versa.
I really like this idea!

Honestly, I think the "It's a Small World but it's scary/darker/creepy!" joke is a bit overdone.

> Idea works as Halloween overlay, at best. Even then, idea only barely works and would probably not go over well with judges.

I'll attempt to sum up what we've brainstormed so far for the Craftwork concept...

An outdoor section with a kinetic dancing pool set in front of the large, iconic Small World facade. Lots of kineticism everywhere - in the pool, on the facade, with massive pinwheel fans in the gardens. Includes a hot air balloon flat ride circling the Tower of the Four Winds. Also Nigel's Gardens of Unity topiary walkthrough.

The indoor section is set at night, possibly with amazing projection effects and fireworks in the night sky. Will include a flat ride built into the facade's clockwork backside. Also an artwork gallery featuring worldwide folk art.

And of course there will be It's a Small World itself! Most likely it will use the traditional flume ride system and storytelling. There might also be a suspended dark ride like Peter Pan which flies through these same scenes from above. Nigel's idea, which I like.

We need to come up with concepts for 1-2 restaurants and 1-2 shops.

Additionally there was some talk about a live singalong show featuring folk songs from around the world? I liked that.

How does this land sound to everyone? Is this the right amount of features? Anything else we want to add or subtract?

Like the others, I do think that goes a bit too far.

But there is potential in something happening and the people having to rebuild. Thematically showing the power of coming together and building a better tomorrow together.
Sorta like how after the worldwide clusterphuck that is 2020, we need hope and optimism and unity to move past this, fix the problems, and create a better world.

But it might be tough to pull off without just feeling edgy for the sake of edgy or clashing too much with the simplicity that is at the heart of Small World's charm.

I like that line-up. We'd have two flat rides, two walkthroughs, and IASW (also, one show depending on whether we wanted to include the sing-along). It'd be a small selection of smaller attractions, something to fit the more gentle nature of our Crafted Small World.

It's a good idea... for something like Epic Mickey. A cool subversion of what was expected. But overall I don't think it will fit our park, regardless of how "mature" (which I'm realizing today is super subjective) it is trying to be.

Wow, ok, that had a LOT more pushback than I thought.

I will say though, I still feel like keeping the standard IASW format with a couple touch-ups is a waste of an opportunity. I would dare to say the current brainstorming I'm hearing is close to copying the original, since the real-life ride is basically all about a closer-connected world/unity. Having a conflict/resolution would be a more powerful, more resonant message on unity or whatever we are trying to communicate rather than having it shoved in your face 100% of the time.

Also, the concept art wasn't what I had in mind, I was just trying to visually communicate my idea (I suck at drawing) and that was the only thing I could think of to get there.

That's my two cents. I don't want to sound salty, and I'll 100% jump on rehashing the original ride with touch-ups if that's the final consensus, but I just think having a bit more "flavor" could really improve the experience here.

I think a big reason why IASW is so beloved today is for its simplicity. So given the prompt of making a land themed to IASW, I think we should just focus on its themes and most beloved features, rather than trying to radically rethink it. If this were a different land, I would be more inclined, but given the papercraft world + IASW centric prompt, I think playing it safe is our best option.

It’s a good concept but I don’t think it really fits the prompt. I don’t even really think that IASW needs a conflict/ resolution. It’s not really that type of attraction. It would also clash with the kid friendly paper craft setting.

This has been a productive day of honing in on a concept and fleshing out our content! Now for deliverables. Who wants to do what? (In parenthesis I’m making assumptions about certain players)

General Land Description & Thematic Mission Statement (@Pi on my Cake)

Outdoor Area Description & Indoor Area Description (@NateD1226 & @b-wolf95)

It’s a Small World E-ticket (@NigelChanning09 & @Mickeynerd17)

Tower of the Four Winds Flat Ride (@Brer Panther)

Facade Clockwork Flat Ride (@AceAstro)

Garden of Unity (@NigelChanning09)

Gallery Walkthrough (@DashHaber)

Live Singalong (@PerGron)

Dining (@Outbound)

Retail (@D Hindley)

Also, for a concept like Small World the visual style really goes a long way. As many of us should attempt some artwork, regardless of skill level or medium. Especially for a smaller world like this, that’ll really sell it.

Yes
I’ll take the sing-along, but what if it was an animatronic show instead? Like an America Sings type deal. That’d tie the Carousel of Progress from the same Worlds Fair in as well as it’d be a similar mechanism
I vote yes to that! That's fantastic!

I'm game to work on whatever! Area descriptions are always fun. Flat Rides are always fun. Stores can be deceptively fun. I'll let some others choose their preferences and then I'll choose later or take what's left.

Though I'm definitely game to write the intro/mission statement!
