I like night time shows with fireworks set to music, so either version of Rivers of Light is not for me.

I have walked by the show before and the boats were pretty colors. The music sounded nice too.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, this show lacks a wow/finale moment. My simple fix would be to have the giant fire geyser from World of Color make it into this show, imagine the finale where as the music swells at the end, the lotus stem accordions back down and then as the final note hits, right from the center of the lotus, a gigantic 150ft high fire flame erupts. People would cheer and also clearly tell this was the end.

Go more than that. Have your fire jet. Have two dozen massive, underlit LN2 jets surrounding the lagoon fire upwards. Have dozens of small drone floats suddenly burst into life for the first time. Go for the big one, but don’t require any more manpower or resources.

Whether or not you like IP added to the shows, you have to admit that Rivers of Light needs something. The current version isn't very entertaining. Even the finale leaves you thinking "That's it". I'll give the new show a try before passing judgement. It can't be any worse then what we have now.

Yes
I do not understand the reference to the latter, so I assume the former haha. like penguins and lions nature documentaries.

In the White Wilderness "Nature" film produced by Disney in Canada (circa 1958), "artful" camera shots and staged events were created to show Lemmings swarming to the point where they would leap into the water and drown. This supposedly was normal behavior .

I've only seen it once (which tells you something), but does ROL have much of a discernible plot to begin with?
2 noble shamans and their cheerful apprentices invite us to a sacred lantern ceremony that transcends space and time, taking to the water to conjure up spirits of animals who have passed on into the night sky, all the while using ancient instruments and drums to do so. I think it did.

I love HEA; it's currently my favorite Disney show (beating out even RoE). But if I want to watch HEA, I can go over to the Magic Kingdom and watch it. I don't need it in Epcot as well .

Bingo. Personally, I'd like to see at least some recognition of MK's IPs a la Remember....Dreams Come True but MK and even DHS are perfect parks for the movie-IP nighttime love-fest. That's not to say I'd have a total conniption if some movie characters make some cameos in a nighttime show at the other parks. It's not so much that they are using them, it's the inartistic and inauthentic way they are using them which overshadows, if not outright abandons, the more mature themes of AK and Epcot.

For instance, Lion King is an appropriate IP at AK but some jazzy version of Hakuna Matata or Can't Wait to Be King in a show like RoL would be cheap, corny, and inappropriate. But using Hans Zimmer's beautiful This Land score could be a potentially incredible, powerful, and hauntingly beautiful addition. Even Circle of Life could be a proper addition in the right context.

*sigh*

So, this really is the new game plan for the parks? Throw characters into every possible place and hope it connects with the audience? It's as lazy as it is pathetic. The creatives at WDI are capable of so much more than this, and it's so frustrating to see their creativity limited by these short-sighted business mandates.

This is not the fix that RoL needed. Not by a long shot.

I dared to suggest that placing Simba in the show doesn't make it any better and man, you should have seen the #DisneyDefenders come out in full force to shout at me for hating IP. Lol. I can't with this craziness of some. I can't. Chapek must be so pleased so many are blinded.

I try so hard to avoid any kind of Facebook comments section when it comes to Parks news. It's almost worse than the comments on the Parks Blog articles!

Can I wake up from this horrible dream today? RoL turning into a IP fest and the new rumor of no nighttime parade coming for the 50th? :arghh:

figured that was forthcoming, but the second is just a sorry shame if true.

pretty soon all these shows are going to be the same songs over and over and over. ,..at least with ROL from the concept art it looks like it will infuse images of real wildlife with the ips, instead of just strictly ip.

Except when they do guest surveys, about the number 1 thing people want to see at Disney World is DISNEY stuff. Go figure.

That would be encouraging. What we get, instead, is Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and the umpteenth iteration of '90s classics. All fun, but all from the same old well, and much of it not "Disney." Disney Owned /= Disney.

Not to mention, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Soarin', Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - all Disney stuff - all popular - none come from a movie.

Disney's history shows they can create original content that captures the hearts and minds of people and brings them back again and again.

I think everyone is forgetting what IP did to Flights of Wonder. Ruined it in my view. Was one of the best shows on property until they HAD to put IP in it. Not saying ROL is a great show but it has its moments. They are slowly destroying my favorite park just like they already have and continue to do in my former favorite park, EPCOT. I guess I’m in the minority though.. no kids here and just want good entertainment that doesn’t have to have a character in every show.
