Express Pass can't be used for the Potter attractions at either park, however if you are staying onsite - even at Cabana Bay - you get early entry (1 hour before opening) for the Potter sections and attractions. Cabana Bay guests do not get the Express Pass benefit, but they do get early entry...

Personal opinion only... but if resort hotel attendance is down, it is due to the ridiculously high rates. I don't know of anyone who goes to WDW who doesn't want to stay in one of the onsite resorts. But they stay offsite because they can save money, and get so much more for their money...

Why is it I never see anyone complaining about Universal and their Express Pass for on-site guests? IMO Disney has taken a huge step in the right direction with FP+. I just wish they would find a way to offer a similar system to Uni so reserving a specific time was no longer necessary...

Really... that doesn't look so terribly bad. At least people are leisurely walking down Main St and no one is being run down or trampled. I take it people are welcome to stop along the way for a coffee or whatever as long as they don't try to get ahead of the leading CM's?

Disney's Village Resort is right I think. It would have been there in the 80's.
