News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

The gondola I’m in charge of opens next week for ski season. Usually all 25 operators have never run a lift before. They arrive on Monday, train in a classroom for two days, practice at the lift for two days, then we open. Basically the same machine as the Skyliner.

Does anyone have a guess how far in advance Disney might announce a specific opening date? Or will they announce it at all?

No but they probably still have wiring, adjustment and alignment to do in the stations. Of course this happens to be the busiest month of the year getting all the new ski lifts commissioned. Correct, the grip was probably attached manually away from the stations. Looks like the haul rope was...

That is the final haul rope. Probably will be spliced shortly and put on the rest of the towers. The reason they put a grip and hanger on the end is to reduce rope twist.

Looking at the entrance holes in the Hollywood Studios station, my guess is there will be three communications cables and one haul rope loop for each line. I have heard the haul ropes are 54 mm, which is quite beefy. There could be two successively larger "sand lines" pulled around each lift...

They actually aren't traditional power lines but rather transmit low voltage communications between the towers and terminals. Sometimes there's fiber optic too. On most European lifts, the comm lines are underground and only the haul rope travels between towers. Because these lifts are coming...

News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

There will be many different ropes (cables) strung between the towers over the next few months. Some will be permanent, some only temporary. I am not sure if the communications lines will be aerial or underground on these lifts.

News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

As I've said before, a reduction in speed does not necessarily equal a reduction in capacity because cabins can be spaced closer together. Just because Doppelmayr's website has some stats doesn't mean they aren't pushing things further with this totally unique project. The cabin that was in...

Correct. Ski lifts are often relocated from one place to another. If the Skyliner gondolas don't work out, there are plenty of ski resorts which would be happy to take them off Disney's hands.

Looks like that and the transformer are both for the gondola station. It appears each station has its own generator and the hub has two of them. For whatever reason, Doppelmayr wasn't able to launch Omega V and D-Line at the same time in 2015. So CWA created a D-Line compatible version of...

News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

I just got done touring the first American D-Line lift today. I think you'll be surprised how smooth and close to silent the Skyliner is. Those are two of the big selling points of D-Line. You will be able to have a conversation at a normal volume right underneath the stations.
