  • I really like that Speedway idea. Definitely would have finally made it a fun ride, and best of all, it's actually doable. There's so much potential...I just hope they don't leave it like it is for too much longer. Now, if you could replace Circusland, what would you replace it with?

Thanks about the Skyway comments. I've never been in the building before, but it has always intrigued me. I can't wait to see what they do up there. The only hard work involved downloading the file I had, but the overlays the other posters did were FANTASTIC. If you want, I can send you a copy of the plans.
Scrape it clear, first. Electric vehicles, which can be remote controlled at special times like a moving load/unload ramp so you have the benefits of an Omnimover. The cars would have on-board audio and limited fx like shake and leaning. Have a two track outdoor single loop near SM for load/unload. Travel down under the RR tracks into a show building, in the dark a switch track could split the cars to one of four tracks for variety. Inside there would be night scenes, caves, cliffs, speed tunnels, total black outs, fire, water, fog, wind, snow with hills/dips through buildings and nature depending on which track you get.
This would free up lots of space between Circus land and the new racetrack for cool new stuff.

Really liked your Skyway thread - first class and really hard work.
I like the sled idea- mostly because Tomorrowland needs more whimsy, like a retro look on the future. Especially in Disneyland, the "tomorrow" seems so stark and cold. WDW makes some effort to make it friendly, but unfortunately now it's just a mish mash of cartoons.

If you could replace the Speedway, what would you replace it with?
More green and flowers, difinately. The "inner Wedway" loop is nicely themed and I really like the trees around the Wedway tower especially in the Summer. This is where the 90's remodel money ran out. Other than a paint job the outer Wedway didn't recieve the "mechanical" support "look" or any new street-mosphere concrete or plantings. I wish they could just finish the remodel all the way back to SM and Racetrack. A water feature or two would be a gift from Walt if it happened.

I was thinking it would interesting if there was a 2nd and 3rd floor to the tomorrowland out edges with skywalks or tubes slides - the type where you lay on a person shaped sled it would look like Futurama. What a laugh.
Tomorrowland definitely needs to be more lush, especially around the Skyway station and Carousel of Progress where iy's nothing but concrete. A roaring waterfall with a stream running through it and surrounded by palm trees and flowerbeds would be fantastic and wouldn't compromise the Tomorrow theme, or what's left of it.

Good point on the Skyway...I was just lookng at maps and it indeed would have a perfect view. I got some backstage photos to hare with you that I must remember to send.
Heck, I didn't even know they had colored lights let alone, changing ones. I was just saying, to it back in the 70's you needed a machine the size of a small refrigerator and it only did one effect. BUT, I still miss the waterfalls and the Skyway cars. Tomorrowland needs more "green plants/flowers" and "water effects". Can you image the construction pictures we'd have if the Skyway was still there! Wow.
Not sure about color changes...I just watched a video from 1991 and the colors looked to be a constant yellow/orange. For some reason, in 2008 I remember the rainbow colors being static, though they could've changed. I'm really trying to rack my brain to remember.
Cool shot, I had no idea they had anything other than white light. Do you remember if the colors changed? I figure this was old 70's tech and were fixed to whatever lamp color was screwed in. Back then if you wanted lights to alternate you had to use rheostats linked together with sprockets and chain drive and you got whatever effect it was built for ... forever.
By the way, a while ago I mentioned that the Skyway station in Tomorrowland had a rainbow nighttime lighting feature, but I couldn't find anything to back it up. I just found a link now, here's what it looks like:
No problem! Glad you have them now.

When I came across the document, I scoured it for any details about plumbing but couldn't find any. Hopefully they fix the fountains soon...I got some hope that they will be.
SeaCastle - Thanks sooo much. These things are really interesting. Most of the stuff is Greek to me but it looks like this was a major update and repair job not your usual paint and flowers rehab. Interestingly that the fountain was not included. It would have been the perfect time.

I'm been slammed working and am just been too wiped out to go on line in a while, normally I would have gotten back sooner. My apologies.
Will try to upload it tomorrow night...will probably use a file-sharing system like Sendspace.com. I'll send the link via e-mail.
Not permit docs...something a bit more detailed/exciting. I'll send you the files when I get back on a computer.
Construction docs? Are these the docs logged with Orange County Permits or Reedy Creek? scott.noir@gmail.com

WDI working on fountain design! I can only hope they can come up with a standardized "behind the fountain" design for easy maintenance.
If you send me your email address, I'll upload the construction docs I have for the El Pirata refurb for you.

By the way, I am hearing that WDI is currently doing some prelim work to find ways to reinstate the fountains. Nothing solid, but from what I've read, things seem positive. Cross your fingers!
