I’m one of those 40% I’m not particularly worried about long term effects on me but I am worried about:

-Having to call in sick for 2 weeks
-Potentially spreading it to my unvaccinated (ineligible, kids) family members
-And of course I’m worried (but much less so) about a vaccine escape varient.

So am I wrong?
In my opinion, yes. You are at an incredibly small risk for any of those things happening even with the current high level of spread in FL.
I am also one of the 40%! Given my immunosupression, I have additional worries, despite being "fully vaxx'd."
Your situation is different. In your case, fully vaccinated means something very different. You are free to worry and should take extra precautions until community transmission is very low.

So, how do the pro-vaccine folks here feel about the Delta strain not giving a rip about the vaccine and the Lambda strain whooping its tail in lab tests? Are you pre-registered for your new vaccines?
I don’t understand your question. The vaccines are highly effective against Delta. Of course, there is a good argument that Delta wouldn’t have gotten a strong foothold if everyone had been vaccinated at the earliest opportunity.

As a vaccinated household currently experiencing symptoms from a (presumed) Delta infection, I’m very glad to have had the vaccine.

I took great comfort in the fact there was very low risk of me being hospitalized. Given my relatively ‘moderate’ symptoms, I don’t want to experience the ‘full’ version.

People are still getting the Delta version after being fully vaccinated and the Lambda strain is resiting the vaccine. I'm not fully "anti-vaccine", I'm just not interested in testing something that's not completely approved by the FDA yet, especially when people are still contracting it while being fully vaccinated. I'll get it if/when I have to, but not until then.

Sure, why not when available?
This thing about staying alive and seriously reducing the possibility of long term effects like death appeals to me.

I'm alive and have no lasting effects from my covid time back in December. I realize my experience isn't others, but that works in reverse as well.

So you will get the vaccine when it’s FDA approved or only if you are required?

You thought there would be 0 breakthrough cases?

That is correct.

I should state that I am not knocking anyone who gets it. I'm not interested in being a guinea pig but I would get it if my family's financial well-being called for it.

Some people are getting the Delta, but the beyond vast majority of those folks who are vaccinated are not getting seriously sick.
It's an odds game and I guess some are still feeling luckier than others.
I choose to go out and do things after being locked away and plan on doing everything in my power to minimize the real and very present threat of a difficult bout of illness and side effects or worse in addition to providing what I can in the way of minimizing the threat of the same to others.

Nope, nothing is perfect.
Ok. So when you do get the virus eventually, because at this point it’s more and more likely for you being unvaccinated, how many people do you think you will unknowingly infect? And how many of those do you think will end up in the hospital? And how many of those will die? And how many of those will be your loved ones?

Bottom line. It’s your choice but your excuses are lame. Get the shot and stop pretending you’re saving yourself from something horrible by not.

That sounds like a concrete statement but it is not accurate. The Lambda strain may be resistant to the vaccine but the CDC recommends getting the vaccine anyway. Having the vaccine can make the symptoms easier if you even do get the virus afterward.

Delta is ripping through communities, spread mostly by the unvaccinated (according to the CDC and other health agencies), and of the people hospitalized 97% were unvaccinated. You don't think there's sufficient benefit to a vaccine that prevents severe illness and death and results in only mild symptoms?

If it has full FDA approval would you still be a guinea pig? When is long enough to say it’s safe to take? I assume since you said you aren’t anti-vaxx that you and your kids get other vaccines so how long before this vaccine is deemed safe to take?

There are a fair number of breakthrough Delta cases. I am one of those right now unfortunately.

There are not a lot of serious breakthrough cases and almost none in the ICU or worse.

Get the vaccine.
The number of breakthrough cases is directly related to the overall community spread. Even at 95% efficacy if there are 70,000 new cases a day 3,500 will be breakthrough. Back when there were only 5,000 cases a day then only 250. With delta it appears the efficacy against symptomatic infection drops into the 80s so at 88% efficacy with Florida having 100,000+ cases a week 12,000 will be breakthrough infections. It’s likely that with that level of community spread most people will know someone or multiple someones who had a breakthrough infection.
