Elves don’t come in an do it? We’ve been repeatedly told that people who don’t get vaccinated don’t have an impact on people who are vaccinated.

I know someone who works for a company whose policy is that employees exposed to someone who tests positive have to stay home for 2 weeks or can return sooner following a negative test result. They get paid for the 2 weeks and there is apparently no cap on how many times they can do this, so anytime a co-worker tests positive anyone who worked with that person gets 2 paid weeks off. The person I know has already taken those 2 weeks off 3 times (all due to co-workers testing positive). This person also refuses to get vaccinated, so they are unwilling to find out if they have it and unwilling to take steps to prevent themselves from getting it. All the while, other co-workers are forced to pick up the slack - and it's a physically demanding job when they're busy.

You would think that the employer would smarten up at some point, but they haven't. I know this much, though: I wouldn't want to be that person or any co-workers who take the same approach (and there are several of them who do) if the time ever comes for their employer to have to cut staff because I know exactly how I'd be inclined to choose who stays and who goes if I were making those decisions - and I also know who I would never consider for a promotion in the meantime.

That is a crazy policy to have now that vaccines are available. Employees who choose not to be vaccinated should not get the time off paid.

The only problem with that is they may not quarantine then or report illness. It’s a catch 22. You don’t want people taking advantage but you also want people following proper safety.

Don’t be so sure on the vaccines. We have 44 days to go and about 21M adults to go to get to 70%. That’s a pace of about 475K doses a day. We are currently averaging over 500K new adult first doses a day but that pace needs to continue if we want to hit the target. I think we will come close, but even if we come up short we will hit 70% within a few weeks after so really not a big deal.

The adult lines are almost flat, the vast majority of the growth the last 2 weeks has been in 12-15.

Not saying you're wrong, very well could be approximately 500,000 adults per day right now. So that would give us a chance at 70% by July 4th: Based on the shaky assumption that there won't be any further decline in the rate.
Who knows... maybe more states will institute lotteries and that will drive up vaccination.

But for the time being, I'm expecting the the rate to continue to drop. Definitely lots of regions will be over 70% by July 4th... Nationally, I'm expecting mid to high 60's, and sadly, some regions/states may barely be in the 50's.

The CDC reports people 18+ with at least 1 dose every day. On May 18 that total was 154,478,960 and on May 25 it was 158,954,785. That’s an increase of 4,475,825 or 639K new first doses a day over the 7 day range. The doses again are skewed towards the end of the week so you can’t just pick a Tuesday and assume that is the new run rate. The rate is actually an uptick from the previous 7 days. The average needed to hit 70% is only 475K a day so a 25% drop from the current week run rate would still get it done. Not saying it’s a lock to happen, but it’s certainly possible and if nor by July 4 it will be a few weeks later which matters to nobody except those who have a strong political desire to see the administration miss a target.

Which vaccine(s) are they using up there? I know the CDC came up with a max of 42 days between shots for Pfizer and Moderna so I was curious if Canada came to a different conclusion for the same vaccines. Where I got my Moderna shot, I heard them telling somebody that if the second shot wasn't within 42 days they would have to do the whole series again.

Canada approved a 4 month delay to ensure first doses could go out faster. Now that our supply is ramping up that isn’t going to happen for most, seems more like 2 months. But there are studies showing that the longer delay = better immune response after 2nd dose.

Well interesting meeting, but nothing I didn't already know really. Only the on-site nurse will be validating vaccine status, giving a fake document is immediate grounds for termination. We will not have to do temp screening if validated, but still need to report any symptoms of to the health clinic for decision to report to work or not.
No one except the nurse and HR (would require union rep approval) may request proof by card itself. Any employee may ask someone without a mask to see their sticker proving they are validated. Right now no volunteer EMTs are required to be vaccinated but will continue to follow CDC and Indiana Heath Dept.
Harassment based on vaccination status will not be tolerated and discipline will follow harassment policy. Refusal to wear a mask without validation will result in discipline following health and safety guidelines including and up to termination.
Only one interesting question Someone asked: if they still had to wear a mask because they aren't vaccinated and a vaccinated and unmasked person was proven to have infected them, if they have the right to sue. Plant manager rightfully replied: that would be a question for a lawyer, however filing a lawsuit and having legal basis is not always the same thing.

Interesting piece of data from the NJ Governor's press conference today... The state has been sending people door-to-door in towns that have low vaccination rates to encourage people to get vaccinated. He said that around 50% of the interactions with unvaccinated people were considered "constructive". Wish that number was higher, but it is good to see that there still are people out there that aren't just hardcore anti-vaxers.

Governor says we drop all Covid restrictions once 70% of adults are fully vaccinated so assuming they all go back for shot #2 should be around June 24 or a little later.

That last question seems like a big stretch to me - almost like the person thought the possibility of a lawsuit would force the company to change their minds about the policy without considering the fact that someone choosing to not get vaccinated has chosen to accept the risk of possible infection (and proving that it was the vaccinated unmasked co-worker who infected them would be quite the difficult - if not impossible - task).

If you are fully vaccinated you don’t need to quarantine anymore from just contact with a Covid positive person unless you start showing symptoms. At some point cases should get low enough that it will be rare that anyone quarantines.

What they left out of the story is the other 50% were chased from the front door by a guy with a bat I applaud the effort for sure, but door to door in this age is a tough sell.

I do still believe there are a good number of people who are not against the vaccine overall but are also not really in any hurry to get it. Those are the people we can still get to come in. Door to door can be a big help with elderly or sick people who have a hard time leaving their home. Did they say they were just offering info or offering to come back and do an in house shot? I know that’s not very efficient, but for a limited group of people it may be one of the only ways to get it done.

For an unvaccinated person who is exposed to a positive infected person? Yes.

That's not really a surprise, new, or some radical development. It's the basic protocol for anyone with no protection that is exposed to an infectious disease they can pass on. If they may have been infected, stop them from infecting someone else until we're sure they're not infected or no longer contagious.

For a fully vaccinated person who is exposed? If they're showing symptoms, yes. If no symptoms, no. This is already the guidance.

One more advantage to getting vaccinated, if there were not already more than enough.

I believe they were just offering info. He also talked about some of the common things that people still don't know, like that the vaccine is free and that there are numerous locations you can get it at.

I would assume it was just info on where to get a vaccine, how to schedule an appointment, safety information, etc., but now I'm picturing people going door-to-door with needles asking people if they'd mind letting them inject them real quick. "This will just take a second. I promise you it's just the COVID-19 vaccine, sir. Stop resisting!"
