The Governor of CA said they were considering requiring it for theme parks at one point not too long ago so it wouldn’t be up to Disney really unless they chose to just shut down instead. I assume the state changed their mind. It has little to do with inclusion.
You're saying that government requirement (not specifically law) determines what is/isn't inclusive? It's a slippery slope.

Please don't take my post as combative. It's not. You're level headed and I wouldn't post this response to a majority of the divine right virologists in this thread. Lest I become vilainized.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis unveiled Tuesday the Colorado Comeback Cash Vaccine Drive, a five-week sweepstakes program modeled after Ohio’s that will reward five mega-lucky Coloradans with $1 million each for getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

How it works: Winners, who must be 18 years or older, will be announced on Fridays, starting June 4.
  • If you’ve received at least one vaccine, you’ve been automatically enrolled in the lottery through the state’s health department.
  • The last drawing will be Wednesday, July 7. Get your shot by June 30 to qualify.

No I’m saying if the state said that’s the only way Disney could be open then it‘s not really Disney’s choice unless they opted to close down. Disney did chose to remain closed to out of state guests from re-opening to June 15 now instead of asking for proof of vaccination. Sea World and Universal both opted to allow out of state guests in while requiring proof of vaccination. It’s irrelevant at this point since the state didn’t require it, but would have been interesting to see how they reacted.

I'm sure foreign guests ( ie Mexico ) may be visiting SW and UO since "vaccine tourism " is making a comeback. There was a time when vaccine tourism was frowned upon since it was taking away opportunity for locals to get vaccinated. Since there is a disturbing trend that some locals do not want to get vaccinated enter - vaccine tourism making a comeback.

Is the Mexican border open yet for tourism? I had heard sometime in June they planned to open it. I guess people can always fly in as long as they have a negative covid test.

I think I used all of my good luck by getting a walkup seating at Beaches & Cream today, but I will let everyone know if I win!

While I understand why they are doing it, I still think it's ridiculous it has to be done. You would think wanting this to end should be good enough.
I think it’s ridiculous more states aren’t doing more to bring more people in. There are a handful of states now using these lotteries and they appear to be working to some extent. There are still 10 states with 40% or less of their total populations vaccinated. There needs to be much more effort made by the government in those places. They will likely never get to 60-70% of the total population vaccinated but 40% is a real problem.

Why don’t you post a chart with the state vaccination levels?

then maybe we can get nasa on it and see if all the MIT guys can find a pattern/correlation? 🤓

Yeah, if they're necessary and they work it's smart to use them.

It's still mind boggling that people need any incentive to get a basic thing done (vaccine) in response to a public health crisis.

How can anyone who lived through this past year year be on the fence as to whether or not to get a vaccine? Are people thinking, it wasn't so bad, I really need a carrot dangled in front of me to do this?

Don't worry about Georgia. I think most people around here have built their immunity the hard way. When you personally know around 75% of coworkers actually tested positive over the past year, it seems easier to explain the low positivity.
Edit... In fairness I engineer in a group of crew members and contractors. Spread like wildfire through all of them. Construction never stopped and mitigation was impossible.

I think there are some people either politically motivated or anti-vaxx who will never get the vaccine no matter what. A lottery ticket or a donut or whatever isn’t getting them to change their minds. It’s the rest of the unvaccinated who aren’t opposed to the vaccine but also aren’t in a huge hurry to get the vaccine who may be enticed by the carrots.

I don’t work for nasa and MIT would never ever confuse me for a fellow student or employee but I can save you a lot of time and money on polls and surveys and probably explain pretty quickly why some states are low and going to stay low and others going to exceed the numbers for vaccinations. Maybe I should be applying for a position with the space people.🙂
