News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I can see NYC being that for various reasons. I’m in Hoboken, NJ and it’s about 50/50 now.

I was in The Bronx (Bronx Zoo) last weekend. Outdoors, it was perhaps 50% masked. Even within the Zoo, compliance was imperfect.

I definitely miss seeing faces. Someone smiled at me from their car after I already had my mask on and I forgot that they couldn't see me smile back.

I do hope people will cool it on going out when they are actually sick. That'd be nice.

I would imagine (no data to prove on me right now) that just like with covid, the majority of community transmission of any illness (at least the type we are speaking of here) will be done through those who are asymptomatic. Just like covid, one can carry the flu without ever having any flu like symptoms.

This is why the vast majority of medical professionals I have spoken to (well technically all) have said that temperature checks are not needed (or as they said "useless"). It is funny, when my wife attended the "return to school/play" meetings where they discussed how to bring kids back, they always had medical experts on the call. The medical experts always discouraged against the temp check for that very reason, while the administrators and politicians would pull for it. It's theater, and make them look good to have it, but does little to no benefit really.

Temperature checks aren't great for telling whether or not someone has Covid but those with fevers>100.4* are more likely to be sick than those who are clocking in at 98-99... I'm ok with those kids staying home from school/daycare so they don't make my kid sick.

Fevers also signal a more significant and contagious illness. My germaphobe self doesn't always mind temp checks so much with how relentlessly kids get sick in school. I don't wish to see rules like this imposed for much longer but it's not completely useless

Where do you live? In NJ it's still about 50/50. At least in the Northeast part.

North Carolina, our kids finally had their sports mask mandate dropped. Her game this week will be mask free which is good.

You do realize that any germs you get from dispensing the soap is going to washed away by that soap, right? Sanitizer alone is not going to kill germs like e coli that you get in a restroom. They did a study several years ago at hospitals that compared those whos staff washed their hands between patients as a opposed to just using sanitizer and the hospitals that just used sanitizers had a much higher percentage of patient infections. We have always been big hand washers and are an extremely healthy family. None of us have had the flu or strep, or any other serious illnesses. I believe that our diligence to cleanliness makes a huge difference.

I promise I will wash my hands from now on- even with a push soap dispenser, AND purell! And use a paper towel to open the door!

Our ignorant Governor here in Indiana lifted the mandate completely on April 6th instead of gradually and people in this state straight lost their minds. Far too often I see morons going into stores still requiring masks and flipping out on the workers when something is said to them. One guy walked into the gas station down the road from my house without a mask and the cashier said something about it and he knocked over a ton of stuff and broke a few things on the way out the door spewing profanities and calling all of us "a bunch of "******* Liberal *******". People have NO sense whatsoever.

I haven't witnessed one of those kind of outbursts personally (yet...) but each time I hear about this kind of behavior or see it on the news, I'm grateful over and over again that so many frontline workers are still willing to continue ringing up groceries, swiping credit cards, and (because this is a Disney forum) making magic while also being tasked with mask enforcement. Frontline employees risk being subjected to infantile tantrums (nevermind a potentially deadly illness) from selfish customers every day in their place of employment. It is truly astonishing to me that anyone wants to work with the public right now.

We really don't want to work with the public, but that is the job what we have. I don't know anyone who likes "the public", mostly because too many treat you like you are a piece of crap for doing those jobs. My job gives me the opportunity to take as much time off as I want and that money funds my vacations. I am taking a month off to go to Hawaii in a couple of weeks. That is why I work those jobs.

I have already booked for my early December trip ! I have no doubt border will open this summer...

Right now as it stands in Canada there is this insane 14-day quarantine rule set up for returning travelers. Now, it is completely unconstitutional and what people don't always realize is that they cannot force you to do this upon returning back to Canada. You can refuse and they can't do a thing about it. It has happened with many people. It is just a well kept secret and most people don't have the nerve to try it. That is when you take a plane to the U.S. or anywhere out of Canada. But the border is closed for driving right now. I said this back in April of 2020 that there is no way they would keep this closed over the summer then either to discourage travelling, and they did. Still have. So you can only get to the U.S. by plane right now. We had to cancel a Darien Lake weekend last summer - twice.

But here is the problem, both my wife and I have to worry about our work. It is possible that we can get an exception to do this, but could both of us? I don't know. I don't want to go to Florida for 10 days and then not be able to work for 14 afterwards. So if our work doesn't let us come back for another two weeks that's a problem obviously, and a bit of a deal breaker. Maybe you are Canadian and what I am telling you you already know, but I just can't book something and not even know if we can cross the border. It is very frustrating, because I have my eye on an October trip if we could.

I haven't witnessed one of those kind of outbursts personally (yet...) but each time I hear about this kind of behavior or see it on the news, I'm grateful over and over again that so many frontline workers are still willing to continue ringing up groceries, swiping credit cards, and (because this is a Disney forum) making magic while also being tasked with mask enforcement. As a "frontline" worker all I can say is boy do I ever despise that term. Same thing with "essential worker." It just grates my skin. It is so utterly arrogant that people use that term. I'm in a factory, so we never closed, but the pride of being one of these people and the expected applause is just so nauseating to me.

I know my essential worker spouse appreciates people realizing without them, things will come to a halt. Then again he's IT and worked his behind off to keep things running. Working for a law firm, they never closed and had to find ways to get all employees WFH in a short time. He wasn't home much at first and probably put in double the hours for about a month in the beginning. So maybe nauseating to you, but it's not to all.
