Mask wearing in response to respiratory illness was already a thing in other countries. There were places like hospitals and doctors offices that required it in this country, even in the Deep South. Heck, go watch Season 2, Episode 5 of Schitt’s Creek, “Bob’s Bagels” and you’ll see one of the main characters wearing a mask.

Yes mask wearing works which is why in medical environments medical personnel wear masks (something done as far as I can remember) yet all of a sudden at the arrival of COVID19 it is looked at as something new? Sadly it was the need for facial identification, be it electronic, or Police / Security personnel physically looking at your face and matching it to the picture I.D. / passport everyone is supposed to have that is part of the initial discouragement to wear masks. Throw in a multitude of other discouragements and I see a self inflicted wound. As for me, myself and I, we wear and have worn a mask when in proximity to others or enclosed spaces to protect ourselves not others.

But there's little hesitancy by many in implying that they are the be all and end all in transmission blocking.

It's a fine line for this scenario between the carrot and the stick, rewarding those who got the vaccine and saying they will get a passport that allows for this and that vs punishing those who don't get the vaccine and telling them they can't go out and play. Not sure myself which would work better. Tough to say that Desantis has been anything but a proponent of the vaccine though, so I'm not sure I buy into anything he says about the passport issue leading to those hesitant on getting a vaccine to outright choose to not to.

I didn‘t think Desantis was anti-vaccine either until these statements. I really think it’s a bad idea to politicize anything related to getting the vaccine. I also think it’s a bit of a straw man argument. Nobody has seriously attempted to implement vaccine passports so it’s just political posturing to come out so strongly against something that wasn’t likely to happen in the first place. People will perceive this as an us vs them with liberals and the Federal government trying to force people to get vaccinated (just like wearing a mask or not visiting family) while he’s the hero fighting for freedom and choice for individuals. We already have enough people resisting the vaccine and it’s already slanted politically. This won’t help.

All you have to do is look at this past winter's non-existent flu season to see masks work.

Masks certainly did a ton to reduce flu spread, but also flu vaccine rates were up among all age groups and possibly most importantly, influenza normally makes its way into the country by travel from the southern hemisphere which was very limited. All those things made for a perfect storm against influenza spread.

I am more concerned honestly with the stupid Florida State Legislature than I am about Ron.

They hold the cards. I had this discussion last week with a well known Florida attorney down here in South Florida. (lets also say he is not a Desantis fan)

If the Florida state legislature passes a law saying "Florida entities can not discriminate and require vaccines" that's it, its over. Private property or not, Disney is doing business under a Florida entity they will not be allowed to have vaccine passports.

Like I said before this is going to get EXTREMELY UGLY and messy.

It will be complicated but FL's bread and butter #1 industry is tourism and for Disney not to require vaccine passports especially with cruise lines is not a smart move if this kind of law passes.

Vaccine passports will never work in this country for anything other than possibly international travel including cruises with international ports.

How is this any different than the chorus of “Americans will never wear masks to WDW” or “Americans will not tolerate lockdowns” we‘ve heard from the beginning? Lots of folks here taking what they’d probably describe as a “realistic” perspective. Maybe it’s realistic to say “Americans won’t want vaccine passports,” but that attitude in the population is also selfish, short-sighted, and ignorant. Not shooting the messenger(s) here, this is just another chapter in ongoing frustration with Americans who can’t be bothered to think beyond themselves to the wellbeing of our communities.

Vaccine passports would really help facilitate relaxing restrictions on American businesses—especially small businesses (who can’t afford to turn people away even if it results in an unsafe environment) those that serve an international clientele (we don’t have national records on who’s been vaccinated in other countries).

Set up a policy ? like but not related to denying boarding to a pregnant female in their 8-9 month. There was a YouTube video when a pregnant female was denied boarding on her Disney cruise for this DCL policy. No proof of vaccine = no boarding the ship.
