You really have a privileged view - if I thought you'd listen or believe why it ain't equal, and personal stories proving (not to mention systemic issues, which does hold people back), I would. But you won't so I won't bother nor will I reply to you again. Teaching white people about racism is exhausting and I am sooo very exhausted. Have a nice day. When Obama had the house and 60 votes in the Senate, the blue folks really took action to "give" equality to marginalized folks.
Don't be offended by my quotes. I put "give" in quotes because the government doesn't "give" equality to anyone. Whether you want to accept it or not, the overwhelming vast majority of people see everyone as being equal.
If you put a referendum on the ballot that asked if minorities should have fewer rights, it would get a very low percentage of votes even in the flyover states. Sure there are a small percentage of ignorant morons who would vote for that but they don't remotely have power and haven't in a half century.
The "60 votes" window only existed for 4 months. The period in which Democrat Paul Kirk served temporarily as the Senator of Massachusetts following the death of Ted Kennedy August 25, 2009 and when Republican Scott Brown was elected and took office in January. Due to legal proceedings, Al Franken was not seated until July 9, 2009 and Ted Kennedy did not participate in any Senate proceedings following his January seizure. During Obama's first 6 months he was really only at 58 (and 57 to start because Arlen Spector didn't switch parties until April)When Obama had the house and 60 votes in the Senate, the blue folks really took action to "give" equality to marginalized folks.
Sorry I thought you were talking a solid 16 months in the US not possibly elsewhere. My mistake.October/November 2019 in China would be 16 months ago.
Even in the US, it is likely that COVID-19 was present early on. Florida had cases with COVID-like symptoms as early as December 2019 and January 2020, which coincides with all of the holiday tourists that we see in the state. HPIV (Parainfluenza) can have similar symptoms in severe cases, but it is not really an adult disease and it usually is not severe. I do not believe that it has the long term symptoms that some people experience with COVID either.
This article was probably posted back on post 2000 or so, and it has a lot of politics embedded, but in case you have not read it...
Miami Herald Article
Looks like there's been a little bit of slow-down for the first dose lately. Is this because Florida is starting to run out of people in the current eligibility group (noticing the numbers are generally higher now for the second dose)? Or due to delayed reporting? Or due to FL running out of willing recipients in the current eligibility group? Any Floridians have some ideas?
I anecdotally know a few people in FL who are eligible but still can’t find appointments so I don’t think they are out of people yet.Looks like there's been a little bit of slow-down for the first dose lately. It continues to be an inability to snag an appointment for the first dose.Looks like there's been a little bit of slow-down for the first dose lately. This is true for some of my loved ones tooI anecdotally know a few people in FL who are eligible but still can’t find appointments so I don’t think they are out of people yet.
Someone earlier (Disney Experience, maybe?), postulated that the first dose slowdown might be due to supply constraints and ensuring supply for second doses. That, until shipments truly ramp up this month, we might see an "ebb and flow" of high Dose 2 : Dose 1 ratio followed by a period of higher 1:2 as the current wave that needs #2 in a couple weeks balances out and allows more first dose appointments to be available. FL is certainly doing more vaccines overall week over week.Looks like there's been a little bit of slow-down for the first dose lately. Make sure he is registered on the state site hereChiming in too, my 73 year old Dad is looking for a FL appointment. He isn't doing the "call everyone daily thing," and is relying on the online registrations. His experience so far is that by the time he sees the notification there are appointments available, there is no longer availability. I'm supposed to wake up for the 5AM (my time) to try and do the Publix thing tomorrow as a backup incase he oversleeps.
Hopefully, the greater Publix availability, and Walmart availability in the Orlando area will help. He's near the border between Orange/Lake. He was willing to drive to counties north or east with vaccines, but hopefully he won't have to.
Check WalMart. Appointments are still available RIGHT NOW!!!!Chiming in too, my 73 year old Dad is looking for a FL appointment. Yep that was my postulation ( cyclic between dose 1 and 2) unless overall supply increase ( in time it will)Someone earlier (Disney Experience, maybe?), postulated that the first dose slowdown might be due to supply constraints and ensuring supply for second doses. Makes sense. Time will tell.
