Just wondering, what is the context behind this? Is the senate still talking about hydrodroxychloroquine, for God knows what reason other than to placate the unending narcissism of a certain individual?

If that is the reason he's been touting hydroxychloroquine all this time (I assumed it was just his usual willful stupidity), then he is even more vile a human being than I would have thought possible. If nothing else, he keeps surprising me.

You have to let it go. There’s no value for people to continue to complain about whatever was said in March. It is a novel virus. New information comes out and we learn more as time goes on, recommendations are updated. This tired game of gotcha trying to prove that “the other side” was wrong has to end. We are ALL in this together whether we like it or not.

No gotcha. There are many reliable medical resources to quote. The WHO has dropped the ball too many times. If you reference something please use a source that is reliable and has solutions not a source that has been part of the problem. In this case globaly.

They are not telling you, it’s a recommendation. It’s like the recommendation of looking both ways before you cross the street. You are not under any order to do it, but it would be safer if you did.

The other reality is that in order to significantly reduce spread (more like delay spread) you must severely restrict freedom. Cuomo is basically blaming the spread on private gatherings. The only way to stop that is to restrict people's right to gather on private property. Even my Mom who votes opposite of me said without prompting that those kind of restrictions are government over reach.

If the general population all behaved like educated, responsible adults there would be no need for restrictions.

All the arguments are moot now. Joe has been installed as will be president, the US will be paying rejoining the WHO again, and As Joe said, China is not bad folks, so the US will be working for with China again.

They are hoping people act responsibly. They are putting out information that many people will use to be safe. That’s all it is. I for one along with about 22 members of our family are going to do just that. I hope the zoom doesn’t go down!

You have to say Comcast too. However, the idea that China is not a threat to the US is 100% crazy. China is the biggest threat we face. Fortunately, if we play our cards right, India is actually going to be a bigger market in the long run and we won't need China that much.

The article I saw doesn't say anything about enforcement. Going into someone's house won't happen. I suppose fines could happen, but probably not unless a very large party was involved. Clearly, there aren't enough police to monitor what every family does at Thanksgiving.

I'm kind of torn on whether an order is better than a recommendation in these circumstances. It is true that people would likely pay more attention if a directive was given the status of an order - laws work primarily because most people agree with the concept of an ordered society and believe laws ensure that.

But if too many see an order as governmental overreach, either because it is too intrusive or because there no way it can be enforced, it can cause more problems than it solves. People will turn their attention from doing what they can to prevent the virus to focusing on what they consider an oppressive law.

Totally agree, companies like The Walt Disney Company and Apple... The Walt Disney Company stopped being Walts Company after the unions came in and it started selling stock.

In the last almost four years, the US was trying force China trade fairly with the US, but that’s going away now. As a nation, the US will go back to the unfair trade agreements that benefit China.

Agree with your whole post. In fact if people just did what they thought was the best thing for their fellow man, with everything, not just Covid, we all would be in a better place. Wouldn’t be any need for recommendations because people would think.. maybe this isn’t safe.. maybe we should do it another way. But as we have seen in the past, doesn’t always work that way hence the recommendations and laws. We have the information now.. we have the science now.. we know what’s right from wrong but I guess that’s enough for some to think it’s over reaching.

Then how do you explain the places with mask mandates and the population political mix that you assume would comply (like california) having significant spread and moving towards lockdowns?

CA is 10th best state in the country in number of cases per capita. Of the top 10 worst states in cases per capita 9 have no mask mandates or mandates that were enacted very recently.

I‘m not trying to say masks are all that matter. It’s a part of the plan. I will repeat again, this tired gotcha game that’s been played from the start with Covid restrictions has to end. We tried it the other way where many people largely ignore recommendations and look where that got us. Maybe it’s time to put politics aside and try following the recommendations for a while. It would be ideal if all Americans had the will and desire to do the right things, then we wouldn’t need government mandated restrictions.
