I don’t mean this to be flippant, but I thought NyC was doing well?

It was doing very well along with the tristate area.

Until phase 3.

Once larger social gatherings were allowed, people did so without social distancing and masks. They thought it was fine "to go back to normal." Then there were the beach parties, and weddings, and funerals, and house parties that, again, were too many people with lax precautions that became super spreader events.

Then schools restarted, and it's clear that children can be a vector of transmission, the older the more contagious. And colleges became super spreaders.

Up until phase 3, everyone was super careful. When the word went out that restaurants and bars could open and people could sit indoors with no masks because they're eating... people stopped being careful.

The same lack of carelessness the rest of the country had been practicing all along because they thought that with suburban and rural communities being so spread out... they were safe. All along forgetting just how much we humans socialize with mixed groupings of people on a regular basis.

You have to let it go. There’s no value for people to continue to complain about whatever was said in March. It is a novel virus. New information comes out and we learn more as time goes on, recommendations are updated. This tired game of gotcha trying to prove that “the other side” was wrong has to end. We are ALL in this together whether we like it or not.

You have to let it go. There’s no value for people to continue to complain about whatever was said in March. It is a novel virus. New information comes out and we learn more as time goes on, recommendations are updated. This tired game of gotcha trying to prove that “the other side” was wrong has to end. We are ALL in this together whether we like it or not.

I can’t let go that people that were wrong when nothing was known in March...are still saying the same things that are wrong now when much is known.

But I admire the consistency.

It’s like if you were to run for an office...and let’s say you lose...badly. But get up everyday and Insist on recounts...so you can lose again and again and again.

Then how do you explain the places with mask mandates and the population political mix that you assume would comply (like california) having significant spread and moving towards lockdowns?

The only way to stop that is to restrict people's right to gather on private property. Even my Mom who votes opposite of me said without prompting that those kind of restrictions are government over reach.

In other news, there were two recent trials that showed some preliminary efficacy in treating COVID-19. A British study found that the rheumatoid arthritis drug tocilizumab prevented progression to intubation in severely ill patients (unclear yet if there is a significant mortality benefit, though).

The other, perhaps more widely applicable study found that the antidepressent fluvoxamine prevented the progression of COVID-19 from mild to severe illness in all who took it compared to the placebo group. This was a small study, but if the results hold up in larger trials, it could be a game-changer, since fluvoxamine is pretty cheap, generally well-tolerated and readily available.

There was also a study that showed aspirin had a similar effect of preventing severe COVID-19 complications, given the strange blot clotting nature of the illness. A larger RCT is now underway in the UK.

Its not over reach at all. You can have gatherings at your home. Just yesterday I had dinner with my mom, sister and her kids. We get together a few times a month. There is nothing wrong with that. Its the ones that will be gathering for Thanksgiving with multiple families that is the problem. The other problem too many are still going out in public or visiting people when they are sick.

That may have something to do with the medical observers finding the continued spread is being traced back to private gatherings with more and more frequency?

It’s not an unreasonable stance...one gets, private gatherings, spreads to others who then “branch out” on the asymptomatic tree.

The problem when you are trying to make money through some backroom kickback...but not make it SEEM like you’re doing that...you have to have a minimum IQ to be able to pull it off.

They are not telling you, it’s a recommendation. It’s like the recommendation of looking both ways before you cross the street. You are not under any order to do it, but it would be safer if you did.
They may have guidelines for only immediate family or limit it to 5-10 people but they know it’s not enforceable.
