Movement in international travel from Canada, Calgary is running a pilot program that allows travel to US via testing to clear quarantine. Must take C19 on arrival and if negative you don't have to quarantine, just follow up with a test 6 or 7 days later. This started today.

Flights via WestJet direct to Orlando from Calgary start in Dec. starting at $275, not a bad deal at all. Should increase the demand at the park a bit. Small step but progress.

ETA - Kenney said if the traveller pilot project goes well, it will be expanded to other Canadian airports early in the new year.

Not many. Most Canadians aren't in a hurry to travel to the US as much you believe they do.

NY travel restrictions changing to allow a shorter quarantine when combined with 2 negative tests, one within 3 days of entering the state and a second test 4 days after returning. Once the second test comes back negative you no longer have to quarantine. If you refuse to get tested the 14 day quarantine remains in effect but that’s now for every state, no naughty list anymore. Assuming 24 to 48 hour turn around on testing it cuts the quarantine from 2 weeks to about 1. I’m not sure if it helps WDW a ton, but if you time the travel right (travel to WDW the week before Thanksgiving and serve your quarantine Thanksgiving week) it’s possible to miss less school or work. I am assuming CT, NJ and PA among other States may follow this plan but not official yet for all of them.
I bet the real reason cuomo suddenly changed the NY travel restrictions is because if he didn’t New York itself would be on the banned list this week :)

I think it’s a fair change if it accomplishes the same end goal. Not sure why it’s an issue, but I guess if the echo chamber says the sky is green, it’s green. I don’t live in NY so I could care less about Cuomo as a politician. It’s funny to see people so triggered over the governor of a state they don’t live in and have no interest in visiting.

I don’t personally care one way or the other. Disney certainly cares as do the workers in the tourism industry who are still out of work. It’s going to take a while to get back to normal. They need any customers they can find.
I don't know how dependent we are on tourism from Canada, but my guess is not a lot. I would imagine many of the snowbirds from Canada will still come. If your retired and are planning on spending 5 months in the states the 2 week quarantine is nothing.

I don’t have the exact numbers, but I read somewhere that WDW typically has about 20% of their business from international guests. #1 Canada, #2 U.K., #3 Brazil. It’s definitely a piece of the puzzle for them. I agree that most snow birds if they don‘t go to FL this winter it won’t be because of a travel quarantine.

WDW relies quite a bit on Canadians. It has nothing to do with the 2 week quarantine. It has to with your zombie apocalypse. 🙄.

Cuomo part of the discussion because you kept bringing up his travel restrictions that the rest of the Tri state follow being a large driver of the demand at Disney.

It is/was just theater in New York and tri state area, their cases are now rising as everyone else, same with Pennsylvania even with the travel restrictions and more strict mask rules etc. For example Pennsylvania's new case rate per capita is the same as Florida and Florida is pretty much wide open for months unlike PA. MA, CT case rate even higher than Florida.

Did someone really just say that the US is not dependent on tourism from Canada?

A simple Google search found this...

In 2019, there were approximately 20.72 million overseas visitors from Canada to the United States. The visitation figures from Canada peaked in 2013 when the U.S. received a total of 23.41 Canadian citizens across its borders. In 2019, Canada placed first in terms of the most visitors from one nation to the United States, followed closely by fellow U.S. neighbor, Mexico.
