Well, without the vaccine we wait to see if we get Covid also. This isn't the challenge trial Britain has been talking about where people volunteer to be intentionally exposed.

That report as well plus the enhanced cleaning sprays most airlines are doing after each flight helps. Right now anything to get the public flying again safely.
They *could* be successful, at least one of the five or six they're already using. They have lab tests that people receiving the vaccine candidates produce a strong enough antibody response.
Problem is they're not waiting for testing and statistical confirmation. So, they can all be bad. Or, they can all be good.
They can also be good, but dangerous to a small population... we just don't know yet.
But they're certainly gambling on it.
"The West" has about four or five good candidates in Phase III. We have reasonable expectations for one or more to be successful. If we were China or Russia, we'd start implementing them. And that would seem like a good chance to have a successful vaccine. And also a possibility of causing harm. So, we don't take the gamble.

I don't know if they are relying on that. I think that blocking the middle seat was always a psychological thing. The seats are 17.2" wide. That "distancing" isn't going to accomplish anything. There is somebody (usually) in front or behind you that is 32" away anyway.
American never blocked the middle seat and there weren't any reports of issues traced to their flights (and some that I was personally on were quite full).
An airline has no chance to be profitable if they don't sell 1/3 of the seats on a plane on purpose.

now just replace "blocking the middle seat" with basically every non-pharmaceutical intervention that we've implemented in the last seven months and you're onto something. the allure of the illusion of control is a heck of a drug.

This is why I don't understand why some people reacted so horrified to the suggestion of only doing every other day or weekly reports. The daily data is meaningless when they keep having these low number of results reported followed by a data dump. There weren't twice as many people infected yesterday as there were on Tuesday but that is what a quick glance at the daily data would say. I'd rather having meaningful and consistent data once a week than daily data jumping all over the place.

Yes, for now. I would bet a small amount of money that essential workers will be receiving a vaccine by the end of this year in the USA. I have heard vaguely promising results from both the Moderna and Pfizer studies.

They’ve likely reached a threshold were filling a few middle seats makes more sense than adding flights to select routes.
It’s not as if 33% more people will be traveling SWA next month than now, but they’re seeing just enough demand to warrant selling a few extra tickets as opposed to 5% (or whatever) full flights.
This is probably the same thing WDW saw in future demand for values, justifying the opening of an additional resort.

Was not happy to see this, since I booked my flights yesterday for December. But I can only handle one apocalypse per day, and the once closer to home is taking precedence. So today, no COVID, just doom scrolling for updates on how much of Rocky Mountain National Park and surrounding areas have burned.

I don't know what kind of conspiracy theory you are suggesting but there were 5,600 REPORTED positives yesterday, 3,800 of which were from more than two weeks ago. Whatever control "he" has isn't lost based on the data from yesterday.
