Our orthopedists have also been extremely busy since our ORs opened back up for elective procedures. A huge backlog accumulated during the spring shut-down.

It's possible that a number will lose their health insurance through layoffs so why not take advantage of the company health benefits while they are still covered? It's a no brainer.

At least for the patients in our clinic that we refer to orthopedics , it was simply a matter of availability. But the demographics and business climate in my area certainly isn't typical for the country as a whole.

I remember hearing...even offering the same advice...in 2002 when layoffs where rolling out.

The theory that “people can get procedures done” is a case where it makes complete sense in theory but Is not followed in practice.

In our out of pocket world...everything still costs you even with insurance. When you lose your job, you aren’t looking to spend any money in hand on medical.

Availability and, at least here, time of year. Get the surgery done soon enough and a lot of the rehab ends up on the same deductible cycle. Our early spring cycle was thrown out of whack with cancelled electives. It’s amazing what a backlog of 4 weeks turns into.
Add to our situation the actual first wave and a high census of viral patients, it’s a real dancing act getting things done.

What do those things have to do with resistance to contact tracing? A while ago Dr. Fauci brought up the difficulty contact tracing in minority neighborhoods due to distrust of government. I didn't make it up.

Contact tracing hasn't done squat to slow the spread of COVID19. Masks, hand washing, sanitation, decontamination and yes giving each other some elbow room (social distancing) have all had a positive effect at beating down this illness, but, contact tracing has been nothing more than a smoke screen, waste of money and political football. The talking heads in the major media keep putting spin on anything Dr. Fauci say's. Disney has been (demonstrated at WDW) proactive, the best and most organized plus effective at day to day processes to combat the spread of the disease while still conducting business. There will be no 100% anything with this disease nor will there be any 0 (zero) anything. There is a need to adapt and live.

I agree with you. What I would add that needs to be done is to get into everyone's head that if you are sick at all stay home. We had a wedding here last week where one person spread it to 8 others. It most likely due to that person feeling sick but going anyway.

Exactly. That’s why the plan originally was (and should have remained) to reduce cases through wide sweeping restrictions to a point that proper contact tracing was possible and then begin removing restrictions and only reapply much more narrowly focused restrictions as needed to contain hot spots. More resources needed to be spent at all levels of government as well. Instead in a lot of places the plan was abandoned too soon and we never got there. It’s not that contact tracing doesn’t work, it’s that contact tracing doesn’t work when you have full blown community spread.

Distrust in government is not only located in minority neighborhoods. It’s all over in this climate. I saw a news show about 2 weeks ago on contract tracing where they were interviewing the tracers.. from upper to middle to lower class.. from Harvard to the inner city of Philadelphia. They were having a impossible time of getting the information they needed because so many weren’t going along with it.
