On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

That would be dumb.

It’s stunning that the lessons of June seem to not be sinking in for the fall/winter. Shutting down is not currently warranted...but “do what you want” all of the sudden is?

Let’s spin the wheel

Interesting that every time the cases start to go down, certain people want to lift all restrictions immediately, masks and everything, as if the virus magically "disappeared".

Lifting everything immediately will just place everyone back to square one...again.

Which is exactly what the medical people warn against and what’s not being talked about by the hoax crowd is they have been pretty on point. Not necessarily the size of infections...but the consequences of actions taken or not taken.

But that would mean you have to be intelligent and thoughtful to be in a position to suggest what’s right...and not just any Schmuck or Jag. And we can’t tolerate that...it seems.

The cast members who are in a non union role could be in jeopardy
Agree...but you give the “union” more credit than I do based on experience. They don’t have a lot of teeth.

Lol...I still can’t believe I got labeled and anti-employee elitist earlier...might be one of the more amusing characterizations yet...

Non-sequitur...sorry

Considering EPCOT and DAK are both losing 2 hours next month, as opposed to MK and DHS only losing one, yeah it's probably one of these two.
Reasonable deduction is dak...because we know cms and aps/Florida residents are a substantial chunk of business now and nothing drives them like FOOD BOOTHS

I don’t think the college program ever comes back as big as it was. Disney saved some money, but they learned those kids could be took away on a school’s whim.

People need to remember that before the parks closed it wasn’t Disney decision to shut the program down. It was made for them by the schools recalling their students. I doubt Disney has a desire to have such a large portion of their workforce that can be took away from them by the decisions of outsiders.

COVID-19 was a special case, but don’t think for a minute that activist groups didn’t notice Disney had to shut down the college program because of decisions of college administrators. Those activist groups would not hesitate in future to pressure colleges to recall their students if they wanted something from Disney.

Ehh.. no

Well not exactly what you have been saying with your constant warnings of impending doom and disaster, once with the parks opening, then sports, schools etc and then the numbers still keep dropping, the mask mandate probably will be lifted soon in the county and so on.
I cancelled my trip to Japan this winter. Just too much planning involved for something that may not happen. I rebooked my Disney Baltic cruise next August. Please. please can cruises resume and borders open. I can guarantee you I won't be replacing it with WDW again. We had a fantastic time, but dang the heat and humidity kicked my butt. If Europe falls through I'm going to Alaska in August.

???

Where’d this come from?

I’ll ignore the rest if you can articulate “recalling their students”?

Like dead poets society?

Next week is Labor Day. Of course they'd extend hours

Yes, though with Uni prior to this and beyond this. A couple of weeks ago it was so busy they actually "force" extended Studios to close at 6 instead of its normal five. Nothing close to normal, but definitely a growth because of their adaptation to the situation such as Pass Member incentives and mainly the new ticket offering. Saturday and Sundays demanded the change including more dining open now on the weekends. For the last two weeks Saturday and Sundays have extended both parks an hour. A very small step.

A lot of major schools (Purdue for one) don’t even treat the DCP as a real internship

Disney does not even treat it as a real internship. The ONLY requirement is that you are enrolled and completed a semester. There is no school recalling ability in place problem as mentioned above. Nothing is taken away. It is cheap seasonal labor. The student takes a semester or goes in their off track and comes back when it is over. It is the reason I would be nervous and definitely going with something else if I was a full timer furloughed from WDW right now.

I was under the impression that all full time CM's in positions that can be covered by the DCP have already been called back. Is this not true?

This would not be true. The majority of staff at a Walt Disney World park/resort hotel after 4pm is a part of the college program is the old line but really it can be anytime.
They have those DCP CMs at full avalibility when they hire and could theoretically put them wherever front of the line position they want for a season.
According to a round table last week at Soundstage 33 at Universal, Desantis had to be corrected as 85 percent and up of Universal TMs are back, but Disney's staff is not at that level yet.

Also, don't forget folks before all this things were going steady with the expansion of the program housing to have even more positions for CP.

85%? Didn’t they just do significant lay offs twice?

Disney is significantly busier on the weekends too, no?

Of course,I don't know specifics. If anything like Uni it is a large jump, but others have seem to say that it is nowhere near as much an increase. I presume so but the app and wait times seem to say not as much, hard to tell with all the variables. The descision to keep hours cut at Disney on the weekends and quick service options still closing or low seem to say otherwise. But then again, Disney has not offered a deal or budged their precieved value and so much of their live offerings are still not avalible.
