That was a lot in 2009 for Disney. Many low- and mid-level park managers were starting in the 37k range.

Low end were less than that. $30 ish.

Unit managers were in the 40’s starting...departments in the 50’s and up.

I had lunch often with a general manager who had 2,112 rooms that grossed $500,000 a night...all in...and they made $70,000s

I did a few of those events - my height range was one that DCE didn't staff for normally. A lot of them are nothing more than a 20-30 minute set at a Disney Store opening or 15 minutes for local press. And if it involves travel, you're there for at least two days. Longer if it's further away.

There's plenty of free time on the mouse.

Getting fired from Disney was the best thing to happen to my career. It let me focus on finishing school and then leave the country to grow my career just before the US began the 08 recession.

Or put another way... there are lots of different jobs for people looking for different things.

But people keep pushing for the idea of common standard of living. Me being 20 and happy to live out of a hotel 3 weeks a month with no SO or family... is not the same as the 24yr old trying to start a family.

Or is it better if people would pick jobs that fit their needs?
And if employers have problems hiring people they need, they will adapt to get the help they need?

All too much people think employers are obligated to pay the person for the kind of life THEY want. That's not how this works... People have given up on the idea that if you want to advance you need to advance yourself too.

I know you've moved a good bit... I've moved 4 times to fit my expenses and location to what I needed to do to work the jobs we wanted and to handle my family. It's part of being an adult... not demanding my boss pay me more because my home interests changed.

I was attacked by an guest, guest denied and claimed self defense, Disney proceeded to not investigate and instead terminated my employment based off of a false accusation.

I finished my bachelors in hospitality, left the country, went back to school, did a bachelors in graphic design, started my career, did a masters in advertising, returned to the states, and am a passholder and shareholder now.

I have enough Hyatt points to cover my two weeks in Japan and I can fly first class on miles. Now I just need the darn borders to open up.

Nope, just a minimum wage that allows for a minimal standard of living without requiring unnecessary sacrifices, such as having to choose shelter OR food. A living wage.

If the major employers that set the tone for wages weren't constantly leading a race to the bottom in low wages, that would work well.

You call it demanding, I call it negotiating. I've negotiated my salary for the past three jobs as part of the hiring process.

It's really simple to me... employers can makeup whatever job they want - it doesn't mean I'm going to apply and work there.

Replace Hyatt with Hilton and same here. At least the Tokyo Parks are likely to survive. I’m hoping I can see Disneyland Paris before it goes downhill again.

I was supposed to be on a plane to Berlin Thursday for a Baltic cruise now I'm flying to Orlando. I wouldn't mind another Disney trip this Winter if only they were selling annual passes.
