It has been a very rough week here, too. Tuesday, the teacher that got my DD interested in pursuing a science field in college, passed away in his sleep. 38 years old. The school students are reeling. Wednesday evening, the school board cancels all travel, including the band trip to SoCal. They were supposed to leave early morning March 22. Today we got the email, no refunds.

DS's school is still open. However, the trend seems to say he most likely won't have classes after his break. Some schools are questioning if there will even be commencement. Carppy way to end your 4 years of hard work. We will see about the June trip to Colombia, I guess.
Oh no!! That's rough!! I can't imagine not having a graduation ceremony! I mean, I get it if everything is closed down, but it would definitely be anti-climactic for the graduates!

Thank you and I have some rather strong political views but will never ever, never ever discuss them in that ring of animosity. I wish that entire group some of who I know to be wonderful loving people would find a way to be kinder and disagree without name calling or rubbing it in when a point is made
I have never been in there. I'm very politically outspoken in real life, but I don't want to discuss it with strangers. It just doesn't seem to be productive from what I hear.

It's still on the continent of Europe. It just doesn't belong to the Eurpean union....but unless they pick the entire country up and move it, or declare it its own continent, it's still part of Europe.
You might as well give up. There is hardly a working brain cell in the USA anymore. Why learn geography when we live here. I guess all our cutbacks on Education are finally paying off. And we got that wall thing going, they have to get the money for that from someplace.

I suppose it is true, but not having a ceremony doesn't erase the education or diploma. It just moved the anti-climactic thing to a day sooner. It normally happened the day after the ceremony.

Work just lifted their... "only work at home 2 days a week" restriction, and are letting people work at home all week right now. I'm torn about what to do. I don't like working from home, too many distractions, and working on a tiny laptop is not proficient for me.
Do other people in your office like working from home? If they do, they will probably stay home and you'd be fine going to work...you might be the only one there.

My husband was sent home yesterday with a computer system and 2 monitors to work from home for now. Could you work something out for a larger laptop?

Most of my team is working from home, it's like a ghost town, so yes, I think your right... I'm safe if I'm the only one here! Unfortunately, no larger laptop to be had... and I only have a laptop at home, so I might run to the local thrift store and pick up a monitor (it might be one I just donated! LOL) and see if I can work something out with that.

Someone please explain this to me— PLEASE

Yesterday- “We’re not testing for coronavirus because the chances are too slim.”

Tonight-

Schools closed for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Sports all cancelled from youth up until at least April 15.
Gatherings cancelled.

All of this happened today late afternoon. My son’s school sent the email at 5:07pm

How did it flip this quickly???

Where can we find legit information to know wth is really going on??????

I have no answer only theories that will
I won’t. It felt like a gut punch.. just how it wasn’t even a thought. I will figure something out. Women should not have to deal with this on their own.
Plus you are a single mom. Your kid is too old for daycare but too young to stay home alone. I will say that I was left home alone when I was 10 if needed. I was a responsible kid though. Nowadays someone would have social services after you.

Wonder if they will reimburse people for not being able to stay in the dorm and eating in the cafeteria's.

Even if your healthy (knock on wood) this closing everything is for this virus not to spread. How do they know, it won't spread after closing. They have no idea but this affects the elderly the most so therefore try to keep them in mind. Although the run on toilet paper doesn't keep them in mind.

I told my mom they said anyone over 60 is elderly and she fake cried and said I'm not elderly. :hilarious:
You are right.

Ya know, I don’t like to bring up being a sole parent often, I’m not in single mom groups or have many single mom friends. I just try to live my life showing that being a sole parent doesn’t mean that a mother and child’s life has to be any less than a parenting situation/child with 2 parents. I never throw it as an excuse for work or obligations or anything else.. I just deal with it, not really thinking about it. Just wanting to show that women can do what men can do.

Right now though, my heart is hurting for all of the single mothers or sole parents who will be absolutely devastated by this situation. Those women and their children are going to be the most affected by these school closings. I know it’s for the greater good.. but it doesn’t mean that it won’t wreck lives or at least make them extremely difficult.
i pray that society realizes this and companies will work with these women to try to navigate thru the next month.

I hope that makes sense. I don’t really know how to put these thoughts into the correct words.
