EPCOT New Play Pavilion to replace Epcot's Wonders of Life

so again why is it "nonsense" or "inappropriate". because it doesn't fit in the old theme? that's all I'm trying to figure out. Is it because it doesn't fit in with the original vision?

let me start with this question, now I never went to Epcot when it first opened so please correct me if I'm wrong but Epcot was built to supposedly showcase new technology?

and adding a rollercoaster some how waters down that identity? (that's a sincere question) or if it's superhero stuff it does not fit with the design?

It's the superhero stuff and the general lack of theme for future world, right now.

Future world currently has: an empty building, a building with Pixar shorts and a ride about three of five senses, a building with ocean stuff, a building with technology history, a ride about cars, a building with farming and hang gliding and a building about space. Hey I agree, I guess I'm happy that they are putting anything in those empty buildings. so I'd rather a new fun ride without a theme than a bunch of empty buildings, one that actually smells like vomit when you walk in it. but full disclosure, I'm not sure I ever went to any of the parks and thought about whether or not it was "cohesive". When I went on frozen, my thought was not "it doesn't belong in Norway". my thought was, "man this is so much better than that god awful maelstrom".

Maybe GoTG ties in with the future world?

It seems to me that Disney is phasing out dark rides which is very sad for me as I always loved them the best. They butchered Horizons, Universe of Energy, and Journey Into Imagination. In 1993 those rides were some of the most fantastic WDW experiences that were ever made along with the dark rides of the Magic Kingdom.

Said the same day as the first previews of RotR come out, which might be the greatest dark ride yet created.

just trying to figure out the vitriol for that and other rides when personally I slap happy they got rid of Ellen's and Maelstrom, so I'm looking forward to it.

Not sure how a roller coaster in the dark and a singalong dark ride with no cultural value would fit into these statements, which still form Epcot's mission. The first statement is displayed on a plaque as you enter the park and has not (as of today's date) been replaced by a new one stating that the park's mission is now to simply entertain people through vaguely spacey sci-fi things and fictional cartoon characters that reside in a fictional land that may or may not have been based on a real place.

The original park did showcase new technology but it's goals and identity were loftier than that...They used the latest technology among other things to inspire people about the Future World we could build together...Through a series of attractions that showed our past and present...and then adding new forcasts and ideas.... EPCOT was meant to entertain and inspire...And it really did. Biggest problem is they did not update as needed...and let the whole project languish... re: Guardians Of The Galaxy, they could have probably used the same system for this attraction to tell a different story related to the Energy pavilion... Sure doing a Guardians Of The Galaxy themed attraction is great...but maybe at the Studios Park or the Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland...

I think we've reached a significantly concerning turning point when the baseline of Disney quality becomes "Well, it's better than an empty building!"

lol and what we have now is indicative of great quality ? sorry don't blame that on the consumer. that baseline of quality happened when the buildings were allowed to get that way in the first place. paying hundreds of dollars to walk into a vomit smelling empty building is your idea of "quality"?

lol I think it's a bit silly that the objection is too Ip being placed there and not to the crappiness in the first place.

I get though, the park no longer has a "theme". So it seems the only options Disney is considering is "old boring empty shell with a theme" vs "no theme but with newer decent rides".

What’s coming could be called another name now, it will be that far removed from the park that used to exist.

Why doesn't GotG fit in Future World? Well, let's just put Dumbo in the WoL building. Dumbo is an elephant, an elephant is a living creature, so thus it's a fit for the "Wonders of life" theme, right? Same logic. GotG did something with batteries in Vol. 2, and Peter Quill allegedly visited EPCOT Center as a child, so thus GotG fits as a replacement for UoE.

Build GotG at DHS, without ripping an existing ride out, and you'd likely have no arguments from anyone around here. It's likely going to be a good ride, just in the wrong park.

I don't really put blame on anybody but park management, so I don't know where you surmised that I'm blaming the consumer. I believe I've made that quite clear. Your first paragraph is virtually proving my point regarding management having no vision for Epcot and taking the most cost-effective route to everything instead of caring about show quality and guest experience. They've managed to water the brand down enough that the consumer now accepts sub par quality that would have been absolutely unacceptable even 20 years ago, simply because it's better than nothing. This is a direct result of the stagnation that has occurred for the last however many years.

Show used to come before Efficiency in the 4 keys, but I doubt that it does anymore.

Because from what we know via Disney and our reliable insiders, nothing about it fits at Epcot. If this had been a new build at Studios, I doubt people would have as much of a problem with it. I'm not debating the quality of the attraction, as it hasn't opened yet. I'm sure it will be very well done for what it is.



Again, nobody is stuck in anything. We. Don't. Want. Disney. To. Rebuild. 1982. EPCOT. Center. Verbatim. We want Disney to hold itself to its own standard for themed entertainment, which involved its parks having their own clear identities. Shoving culturally-inappropriate characters into WS and superhero franchises into FW does nothing but water down the identity of the park as a whole.



So what exactly is the purpose of having different parks? Your username is literally a classic EPCOT pavilion, along with your avatar being an EPCOT original IP, so obviously you hold some kind of fondness for the original vision.

Plot Twist: Characters created just for Epcot are also IP. We don't have a problem with the presence of IP in the park as a whole. We object to the inappropriate way that the IP is being used. The issue is that management now considers the parks to just be a marketing tool to push their hot properties and further other parts of the brand. The people in charge no longer consider themed design and entertainment to be an artistic medium.

I guess I'll say for a third time that nobody is asking for 1982 Epcot to come back verbatim. Hell, I wasn't even born until nearly 5 years after that.

We want Disney to stick to the mission of the park. To inspire awe and celebrate man's achievements while looking optimistically toward the future. The world and especially the nation have never needed something like that more than now. We actually yearn for the park to continue changing and evolving and updating, but within the tenets upon which it was designed.

If that isn't clear to you from me literally saying it multiple times and laying out exactly what Epcot "purists" actually want, then I'm out of efforts.

The fact that you refuse to acknowledge anything I'm actually saying and keep beating the same false assumption to death kinda makes this a pointless discussion.

...and I'm great, thanks. But I would always take a Snickers bar, duh.
