Since we are sharing weather stories, it was -7 (feels like -20) this morning. Currently -5 (feels like -17). But it is sunny outside and I have no plans to go outside so I'm warm and cozy. Sorry it is better than snow. I do feel bad for my dog, she has to go outside in this, but she is pretty quick doing her business.

oooh you win... this morning was 1 degree when we left to meet my family for breakfast... currently it's 13, but I hear tomorrow we are getting the negative numbers you are getting today.

I just found out I'm going to be an Aunt again this summer! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

That's true except when the snow turn into a food of slush and the temperature is going down near zero:brb::cold::coldfeet::cold::coldfeet::brb::bawling::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
That is different. I might have misunderstood that statement. If it is to prevent slush freezing then I agree, but, if it is to just clean it off before the rain, when the freezing happens and it will, there will be no escape for slick smooth ice. With the snow buffer, it is easier to walk on because the base isn't slick, just the surface. It's hard to explain and I don't think I am doing very well at it. It's sort of like if you have a smooth sidewalk that is glazed over with ice it is nearly impossible to walk on. So, you walk over to the side off the sidewalk into the snow based area and you can have good footing again.

Just a word of advice for future reference from a person that lived through 63 Vermont winters. If you have a coating of snow and are expecting rain or freezing rain, leave the snow there. Let the rain fall on top. The worst case scenario is that it will form a crust on top, but, it will be a lot easier to walk on then just ice.

Yah, our plows and salters were out last night and all day today--we have a lot of icing, and the road is still a sheet of ice out there--a lot of it has to do with the lower temps. Tomorrow is supposed to be around zero, so that's not going to help much to melt the ice. City crews are having a tough time with this storm.

As for snow, we got about 5 inches total, and like you said, the ice crusted over about an inch on top of the snow--made it hard to shovel this morning. But I had to get the steps cleared, and the car cleared off. Hubs did the back of the driveway where it meets the street, because it's just turning into concrete now out there. :p

You’re not alone in your thoughts. I didn’t realize how lucky we were until I became a parent. I know when I was 5 I could go to the playground by myself or with a friend. I never would have let my kids do that.

Yep, same here.
When I was a young kiddo in No Cal, the only time I remember parents teaming up to walk with us to school, the park, etc. every time (although, our folks spent plenty of time with us at parks, etc., too before) was after a young girl was found dead in one of the local vineyards. The Zodiac Killer was on everyone’s radar at the time...and, although he was targeting young couples, the thought was that he might be moving further south and also beginning to target children.
Shortly after, an autopsy and other evidence determined the young girl was killed by a pack of stray dogs.
Crazy times for even back then, but, we were free to roam around again after the authorities findings.

Sorry you don't have any snow. It is pretty outside. :)
I have snow outside. It snowed on Friday and some on Saturday.

At least this winter for snow isn't bad compare to the 2007-2008 winter.

That Winter for me had 99 inches of snow and it was the most for a winter since the 1885-1886 winter based on the media mentioned at the time:jawdrop:. If you are wondering how much snow did 1885-1886 winter had, it had almost 110 inches of snow in South eastern Wisconsin:jawdrop:. I'm sure the kids in the 1885-1886 winter loved that amount of snow unless they had to shovel, but the adults hated it since snow blowers didn't exist yet.
