Good old Al's Fries. When I was in High School there was a miniature golf course in back (were they eventually put the picnic area). I worked there for the summer. At the time, Mrs. Al had divorced her husband and she got custody of the stores. She was awful. Ownership has changed, don't remember when, but, it was for the better once that happened. Although it was popular before that as well, at least for those that didn't see how they prepared the food. But, that was long before 1995. It's quite good since then. All the people I have met that moved from Vermont to NC always make it a point to stop at Al's for fries and a creemee. Why the creemee concept has never taken hold down here when it is a year round treat is beyond me. This week the State Fair is happening in Essex Jct. They used to have a number of mobile Al's FF locations in the fair grounds, probably still do.
For those of you that don't know about the "Creemee" it is just soft Ice Cream. It is somewhat available in this area, mostly at McDonald's, but, it is never the evening event like it is up north where the popular phrase is "Hey, let's go out for a Creemee. Maple is one of the favorite flavors.
Thanks for the cool history lesson on Al's Fries! (No pun intended-cool creemee reference).:)

That was a short vacation for the kids.
Sympathy like on your junior high clothing fiasco.

We get 6 weeks Summer vacation every year. I kind of like the short vacation...for one, less time for them to forget everything they learned the previous year, and for another, you don't have to find stuff for them to do every day. When they were little, it was so hard to keep them entertained for 6 weeks and I kept thinking....HOW did we deal with that in the US?? But, the weather here is not always conducive to outdoor activities. This Summer is certainly an exception, but usually it rains a LOT! I remember one Summer vacation, we had 2 days in the entire vacation that it didn't rain. So you couldn't just send them outside to play, you couldn't go anywhere with them....they were stuck inside and bouncing off the walls. 6 weeks is PLENTY.

DD refused to come down the stairs this morning. I had my phone ready to take a picture and she saw my phone and said no way. Just before she left, she said "If you REALLY want to take a picture....." I said I really did. I thought she'd want it someday. She said she didn't think so, but if I REALLY REALLY wanted one, I could take one. She is not amused, but she let me take one. She looks SOOOOOO like me at that age!!
