Breathe, lady,..... breathe. T is picking up on your feeling of failure. He has cookies to bring to school for his birthday, so he's certainly not thinking of you as a failure. Kids are really good at feeling us out and responding to our moods and attitudes. He gets cookies. Even wrinkly shirt cookies taste like cookies!!
I know I know. I just wanted to do something special for him. Next time I’ll order them instead making myself! It would have been about the same cost, and I would have had 6 hours more of sleep.

One of the room parents just sent me this 😂😂😂

Also...... I throw all the Pinterest parties..... But when I run low on time I totally farm that carp out. Next year, maybe save yourself some stress and buy the cookies? I used to make all of A's birthday cakes from scratch, but I've learned the art of decorating Costco cakes with figurines. So I order an $18 sheet cake, buy some figurines and make a little banner thing, and then whammo. Cake is done. So much less stress than trying to make it myself. Plus it comes in a neat box that makes it easy to transport.

I know a girl who would have made all 26 of them for $36!! She did an amazing job on our end of season soccer party soccer ball cookies. I just wanted to do them myself. Never again. I’ll stick to baking on days when I haven’t just spend 12 hours at the office and on stress overload.

Drama Queen Alert-

I just cried all the way home from dropping T off from school. I feel so horrible!!! I’ve been baking/decorating for about 9 years now. I’ve done cakes and cupcakes galore. Last year was the first time I did flooded royal icing cookies. They weren’t perfect..but the kids loved the Minecraft design and knew what they were.
Today’s cookies—- not the right color.. never dried.. no writing. Just a wrinkled blue shirt cookie!! I could tell that T was embarrassed. I told him that I would run and get bakery cookies and bring them to school later. He said “No. I’ll bring them. And I won’t tell anyone that you messed up. “
I replied, “Please do tell them that I messed up!” 😂😂

Omg I’m going to be the laugh of the PTA I’m sure. More importantly though, I just hope the kids are nice about it and actually eat them!
Are you kidding? You did an awesome job. Most parents would have automatically gone to a store to buy cookies. You went out of your way because of the love for your son to try and do something special. And T was great. He truly showed his love and appreciation of you by still bringing them, messed up or not.

We put so much pressure on ourselves to do it ourselves. I know I can make a fantastic cake for A. But I also know that I'm basically a single mom (husband is a workaholic) and I work outside of the house, and I have other obligations to take care of. So when it comes down to it, I tell myself, yes, I can make these myself, but I'm not going to. Not unless I have a full day off work and kid free to work on it, because I am NOT giving up sleep for cookies, LOL.

Drink all the coffee today, breathe, laugh about this, and move on with the plans. This will be special to him. And there's a zero point zero chance that boy thinks of you as a failure. Even with delicious wrinkly shirt cookies. HUGSSSS!!

Thanks ladies!

Dryerlintfan- I accidentally poured an extra 3/4 cup water in. Tried to make it up with powdered sugar, but didn’t add any more meringue. That’s what ruined the consistency.
Then I added the blue coloring to the main white frosting batch— not even thinking that it was the big bowl and NOT the small bowl. At that point I didn’t have enough supplies to make another double batch. They’re edible, but they’re not very good!!

Here’s what they were supposed to be- white jersey, sleeve, name, and ‘8’ drawn on with an edible marker. 8FB685E8-CAC7-4BA3-989D-EB259EBA9868.jpeg

Here’s what I sent to school-

Anyway, thanks for listening to my failures once again.. and for giving support!

The rest of the day should be hiccup free. :)

You HAVE to laugh at that. They look like jerseys though! So you have that going for you!

And I'm sure they taste fine!

My guess is uneven cooking in the oven. Sometimes the tray needs to be rotated every few minutes. And as @MinnieM123 said, the icing will cover it and they're cookies! Kids won't care.

I should have put them in the refrigerator for an hour first to keep the shape, unfortunately just didn’t have time.
Quick fix for you. Mix powdered sugar and some milk. Put food coloring in it. It will be thin. As it hardens it will make a nice shiny hard coating.
Good tip for the future!!

I use meringue powder, cream of tartar, powdered sugar, vanilla, and water.. it worked for the last cookies..but I used the correct ratio that time. :hilarious:

Ok, I’m putting this hot mess behind me and never looking back!

Oops. I also put vanilla.

I’m doing something similar to this for first communion in 2 weeks, ( I cropped the cross as to not offend anyone)

and I’m doing a soccer themed cake for Sunday evening. Hopefully I’ll redeem myself with those. :)

Also, just to curb my whining.. the morning wasn’t all bad! ❤️

The tall cylinder is not a wrapping paper roll.. it’s actually a World Cup wall chart with the blank brackets to fill in once the games start. T thought it was just a roll of wrapping paper:hilarious:

Yuck to sleet. I hope it has stopped for you. We actually had 41 today and it was very sunny. Hubs, Kapono and I had a nice walk. Oh, and tomorrow....snow. But probably only an inch, not too bad.
How was it warmer by you? Rain/sleet here today, followed by snow tonight. @MinnieM123 would you be a dear and take it? Please?

*Edit* And how are we supposed to get more snow than you? :arghh:

Best I can tell, it was the same passenger.
They released her name, but, I can't remember what it was. She was a publicity specialist (?) for Wells Fargo from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Still not clear to me whether she sustained shrapnel injuries or maybe oxygen deprivation with her head outside the window too long...?
As far as I've heard it's the first accident-related death on one of there planes in the airlines 51 year history (although one person was killed in a car when a SW plane skidded off the runway in Chicago some years ago.
An amazing safety record for sure.
But, of course, none of that makes this any less tragic.
Just such a freak thing, and so very sad.
Oh gosh. That accident was so freaking sad. It was a little boy who died. The runways at Midway are so short, though.

Life is too short to worry about cookies. And honestly, if your PTA is laughing about this, you don't need them in your life. Life is too short for that, too. I am impressed that you even thought to do it yourself on your schedule. You, lady, are one amazing mom.
