I don't have time to go digging, but there are definitely sources out there that state otherwise. That's why it was such a slapdash affair. It also barely has the actual Muppets in it (please, don't get into the digital Muppet debate LOL). It was a rush job to get something into the parks. The only reason it has lasted is because Disney has let it rot, it is woefully outdated and I'm sure Henson rolls over in his grave that people hold it in the esteem they do simply because he died not long after it was finished.

I think you may be confusing this story with the temporary show called "Here Come the Muppets" that lasted only until Muppet*Vision opened. The scale of MV3D, with its AAs and massive, highly detailed theater far exceed anything meant to be temporary.

No, I saw that show - I know the difference. Monorail crashing through, yadda yadda.
I was always under the impression that the film itself wasn't meant to be permanent, versus the theater itself.
In any case, given how terribly outdated it quickly became, had actual development on Muppets continued in the parks, I think it would have been updated before the end of the decade.

The DCA ride is fine for what it is, and one of the best "makeovers" of an existing attraction, but the Tokyo Disneyland ride is awesome. One of the highlights of that trip for me.

I'm actually more of the opinion that had Jim Henson not died the attraction might have been updated a bit over its lifetime, but with his death it became almost sacrosanct. Frankly, I personally view it as such - it's the "last" project Jim personally built (I know, technically there are a couple you can call "last"). Entering the theatre for me is like going to a god's temple and leaving an offering.
Waldo *was* high tech at his moment, but from what I understand from his limited usage before Henson's death, he was not meant to be used solely as he is in MV3*D. Waldo is an attempt at live-rendered computer generated puppetry. I have no doubt that if he were here that Jim would be advocating for a refresh of the film (not a re-write, mind you, but a re-rendering of Waldo) and an integration into a MILF-style meet-and-greet in the post-show area - because *that's* what Waldo was designed for.
But frankly, now if they mess with MV, they're violating a masterwork of a dead legend.
As far as Monsters Inc. being a better choice than Muppets or any other IP to expand in DHS/MGM... I don't get it. I've seen the first film once and it didn't really stick with me. Toy Story makes sense for me as an IP to integrate because of its timeless messages and expansive universe. Muppets have a long, deep and nostalgia-laden catalogue. Monsters has... Billy Crystal and John Goodman vocally mugging for the microphone and that's about it.

You totally lose me there. Just because it was among his last doesn't make it his best. And I would hardly call it a "masterwork".
Every time I see it I get so jazzed up, and excited, because...MUPPETS. MUPPET THEATER! The pre-show is a delight. I enter the theater all ready for some Muppet action. And then, the film starts, and then I remember...oh yeah, the Muppets are only in a few minutes of the film, it is a horridly outdated concept (so much so that it is probably very confusing to anyone under 20 yo), the 3D is remarkably bad, and the idea of "Waldo" as a Muppet is no more accurate than calling any CGI character that is motion controlled by a human a "Muppet".
I leave with a heavy heart every time that this is the best we get for them.

While I agree that the show is nowhere near the level of some of the movies I think that another reason Muppetvision is held in high regard is that it's simply the only thing that there has been Muppet wise in the parks for the last couple of decades. Hopefully we see some more new attractions like the show over in MK, Plus an update to the show!

Honestly, I don't like anything about it. I am not an Aerosmith fan. Also, it is just an indoor roller coaster with terrible neon signs throughout the whole thing. I don't go to Disney to go on roller coasters. I would rather go through dark rides that tell a story. Riding a stretch limo through LA to get to a concert doesn't do it for me.

As to Waldo, he is so stylized that the CGI really hasn’t aged badly, especially when compared to something like T2, where the CGI really had suffered over time. And I have no idea why “the spirit of 3D” is a dated concept - the most dated thing about the ride is probably the Muppets themselves, which is a shame, because they’re brilliant.

yeah I want Mike and sully on sunset Blvd the greatest expansion the park will EVER see. (shots fired) glad people support turning the entire resort into the magic kingdom though. that's the target audience.
You're pulling a quote from almost a year ago whose main idea has been debunked.

Honestly, you can have your own opinion. If you don’t like mine, it doesn’t bother me. It was a quote from a year ago. Also, to think that I want another magic kingdom park because of one post is comical. I am one that constantly speaks out about the changes coming to EPCOT. I might not like IP additions in any park but Magic Kingdom. However, I will embrace the change and hope for the best.
