It has been over a year since I've flown with my Mom. Now mind you I'm in my AARP years. We were heading home from Cleveland and our SW flight was very late due to a heavy rainstorm at the airport. Just kept getting delayed. I went to the restroom and went into a store, coming back about two gates away my Mom is screaming at me, Gabe we are going to miss this plane where did you go (I told her and she was watching my carry on) you left me with all the luggage and they are boarding the plane (the door is still closed) there she is in line with people that were not in our group and randomly picks a place to stand (a no no with SW airlines)
I'm trying to get basic info out of her as to what the gate agent said (told if I was where I was supposed to be I'd know, still yelling, aka she doesn't remember) then continues to berate me for almost making her miss her flight. (jetway door still closed) I turn the woman besides me who took pitty on me and ask what the update was. They would begin boarding in approximately 20 minutes and the flight should leave 20-30 minutes after boarding STARTED.
My Mom is the same way when we do a 3 hour road trip or so. One day I missed an interstate flyover. By the time I saw the sign with all the semi's around it was too late to get over. Melt Down Mother. Oh my God Oh my God Now what are we going to do we are lost and you don't know what your doing or where you are going. Me calmly. See I missed that exit, so I am going up to the next one turning around and going to get off at the exit I need to be on....Well you missed it already once doesn't mean your not going to miss it again....
Yeah....parents....I'm happy it is my sisters turn to take her to Key West next month. That should be fun. Mom flying herself to Cleveland (I ordered her a wheelchair to take her to the gate so she doesn't melt down) then Cleveland to Miami and Miami to the Keys. If I went too I'd likely have to jump out the emergency exit door. Like
@StarWarsGirl Dad my Mom has always been a nervous traveler. Borders always on panic attacks on all the things that could go wrong but doesn't is her thing. And oddly when I fly with my Mom our seats are NEVER split up.
Someday my kids will likely be telling these stories about me.....
