Time for the war to begin.

Universal is planning a park that will be in the running for best in the world (They appear to be on an IP buying spree). Plop that down next to the convention center with a CityWalk 2.0 that has a full blown version of Wicked, a 4 star "Golf Channel" Resort with a state of the art course, 4 more resorts and, of course, another water park. Throw in the Cirque and DreamWorks resorts coming to the former wet n wild land and the 10 or so Es & Ds coming to the existing parks and were getting somewhere.

And that is just phase one.

Universal is grooving on their own thing.

And we haven't even seen any new info on Nintendoland yet.

Competition between businesses "SHOULD" create better options on both ends for guests. We shall see what happens but its not a war because BOTH will win. The question is will that competition drive prices down and ingenuity up or will they both just create average things and keep everyone coming back. Thus far its been the latter.

There is also some litigation tying up another 500 acres or so. It should be cleared up this month. If Uni gets what they want, they'll have close to 1000 acres.

will that connect the land? My issue is the new purchase isn't close enough to walk not sure on safety (I haven't looked at logistics), I doubt they want to mess with the logistics a monorail or sky bucket would cause, so how do you connect? Busses? That seems such a dirty old fashioned thing that would take you out of the theme park haze and back into the real world. Id love to see monorail but I don't see it happening.

The students in that High school must have a hard time concentrating knowing they are right next to a theme park. I magine when the theme park is surrounding them on 3 sides!!! Sort of makes that creepy roller rink that was near my school seem even more sad.

Maybe they do want to mess with the logistics of a monorail. That would be a very bold and awesome move considering Disney's new transportation system is not exactly the best idea they could have come up with.

Here's my question:
Did Disney know about Universal's plans and was what they've announced so far (Star Wars, Epcot, etc) meant to head that off? Or are we expecting Disney to react in unannounced ways now that Universal's intentions are known? Essentially, does Disney have more to roll out or are they counting on what's been announced?

So far as I know (which isn't everything) there is nothing Earth shattering on the horizon. There may be one more technologically advanced E ticket that's no where near green lit or even in blue sky but it's mainly small to medium additions and refreshes.

IF Comcast managed to build a park comparable to IOA and crossed it with the MK, and IF they get the advertising right maybe Disney will think again.

They are definitely not messing around! Seriously, if you are a theme park fan, and not excited by this? You are partially dead inside!!

With Universal's purchase of an additional 100 acres, they now have enough land for 2 more gates, a new City Walk and more hotels. They will go ahead with this soon, so Disney must act now. Universal is serious about equalling what Disney currently has so the only way to keep it's lead is for Disney to start an all-out war.

Disney should buy Seaworld, build a 5th gate based on villans and add scare zones for Holloween and of course more hotel rooms. They need to do this now and not wait for Universals move. SeaWorld could be used both as an extra thing to do for people visiting WDW and Southern California and while also working as a regional park operator. It would be a win win for Disney and Seaworld.

Disney still has a major lead and can't afford to let Universal continue to gain on them. Taking these steps would not only add gates but go after Universal on their Halloween Horror nights without hurting the current Not so scary Halloween Party. The time is now for the real war to begin.

(2) add a few quality rides to MK;
