Replacement for Tomorrowland Speedway?

With Tron open, that becomes a much easier pill for operations to swallow, sooner or later. But I bet they kick the can down the road as far as possible.

What makes you think it's operations dragging their feet and not the accountanteers and execs paid via performance bonus within TDO?

Whew, I'm not alone. I love classic wooden coasters, those are rough. Actually a few older steel ones are as well.. SM isn't anywhere in the same league..lol.

To me our cars are kind of what makes it "special".

But it's criminal when the original is in such sad shape, compared to the clone that opened two years later....

It absolutely can be accomplished, but the question was why people want clones, and more importantly, why Disney prefers clones. The current management group is about safe investments.

I'd be more than happy with them simply reusing similar ride elements but having different themes. I'm fine with Dinosaur/Indiana Jones instead of 2 identical indiana jones rides. Or ToT/Guardians/Disneysea's "non Twilight Zone" ToT. The same thing we're seeing with Aliens/Maters.
It'd be great if we could get Poohs or Mystic Manor's ride systems over here but with a completely different theme. That would still allow for "exclusive" rides at other parks with the safety and comfort for TWDC of using proven ride systems, while allowing for "exclusivity" through different theming.

It comes down to this- if GoTG is a drop coaster on the west coast, do we need a clone here? I'd much rather get an SFX coaster GoTG ride. Different themes/identical systems or Identical themes/different systems is what I'd prefer in every instance.

General question for the thread-

Why do so many of you want clones of rides from other parks?

From my perspective I think it's good for different parks to have different offerings. Not everything has to be the same. Original park exclusive rides would be nice, imo.

While I don't necessarily want countless clones all over the parks, I do want rides like Tron and Mystic Manor (though really, can that discussion be dropped in this thread?? ). I was hoping that our version of Tron would be unique (using the example of Tokyo's Tower of Terror- same ride system, but different story), but unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case.

I think that part of the reason that a lot of fans want rides from other parks is because for a pretty lengthy amount of time, WDW wasn't getting anything new while other parks got new rides that used incredible new technology or systems. WDSP got Ratatouille, Shanghai got Tron and an incredible looking Pirates ride (though I don't want a clone of that ride because I like the Johnny Depp-less pirates), and Tokyo DisneySea is like the crown jewel of beautiful, unique rides. Most visitors to WDW won't go to the Asian parks, so while I don't want exact clones, I think it'd be nice to have some of what is offered over there.

Yeah, safe bet makes sense from Disney...I'd call it lazy though. I guess I just get more surprised, in multiple threads, where people appear to want a clone rather than an original. I'm not talking lands, just rides.

So if you look at Tron and all of TL inside SHDL you will notice its multi level. What is a new course/track for the TL Speedway ran below a elevated walkway / plaza for viewing and queue for Tron? All built of the Speedway area and designed to block the show building. The lower areas of the show building would need some light theme elements for viewing from the Speedway or Train. This is all very do-able. Hope it happens.

Things like brakes, track work, etc are not complete rebuilds..nor do they mean that a ride is past it's life to the point of needing bulldozed.

I don't even think Space Mountain is in the "rough ride" category, not even in the slightest bit...but I realize that other people do.

IIRC, the trim brakes were added to slow the trains down to lessen the stress on the track because it was quite literally too fatigued from age.

Which makes it past its shelf life.

Look the only reason why I care about this in the slightest is because there has been an extremely thorough effort made to keep Animal Kingdom cohesive and in line with it's values. I have a massive amount of respect for that and given the different forms of management that ravaged through the parks in it's short life I'm amazed that the park is still that way. You can trivialize that all you want, but I'd rather not see all that hard work go to waste again (like Epcot).

A roadside carnival hosted by cartoon dinosaurs was an extremely thorough effort to keep cohesive theme?

Because world travel is not the easiest thing to do, first of all. It's very expensive, there are political issues, plus it's a lot more convenient to drive several hours on a tank of gas than to deal with flights, passports, luggage pickup, language barriers, etc. Furthermore, when traveling to a foreign land, most people would rather visit the country's historical landmarks and sites than to visit a Disney theme park. (i.e. Paris). There are millions of things to do in foreign lands that are way higher up on the totem pole than visiting a Disney park. If you travel all of the time, this may not seem to be a big deal, but for the novice traveler, this will be likely the only time they visit that area. Are they really going to spend their time at a Disney theme park instead of Versailles, the Louvre, or the Eiffel Tower, for example? Disney is at the bottom of the totem pole where the rhino is waiting, so to speak.

Because they know only a small fraction of their domestic guests will travel to the far east.

I thought that I've read and heard somewhere (maybe from Jim and Len) that Disney was waiting on the Sugar Rush ride until more info came on Nintendo-Land and the Mario Kart Ride. And I kind-of remember someone saying that WR had a couple options for its placement, one being Speedway and the other being Stitch.
Then again, I still think that Cars would be a good fit on the Speedway as a transitional ride between fantasy and tomorrow lands. Thou what was described from Jim Hill on a Sugar Rush replacement of Stitch, is pretty much a scene in Cars 3.
Regardless, how exciting will it be to see the art work of whats coming!

I really don't want Cars in Tomorrowland (that thing has enough Pixar right now- though I would make an exception for Wall-E), but Disney waiting on a thematic change for the Speedway in regards to Mario Kart makes sense. However, I'd argue that the Speedway and Mario Kart will be two incredibly different attractions when all is said and done.

Honestly if you were to clone Mystic Manor, then there would be almost no reason to visit Hong Kong Disneyland at all.

My Hong Kong season pass says otherwise.

I'm the same way with POVs.. I never watch them ahead of time. Maybe teaser trailers before something opens.. but not a full vid.
I seriously can not wait for a SW coaster at HS!

For the record, Disneyland had used Tron in the Peoplemover. Tron section starts at 4:38.

I agree with you. And I respect your opinion, I just have zero faith in the current regime to do what's right. But I truly thing that if Everest can work, MM or something extremely similar could work. I mean dinosaur and IJ are the same ride but vastly different.. They don't even need to go that extreme. Take a supernatural story from that region, tailor it to the same type of ride and there you go. A dark ride that is fit for all ages an it is exactly the same theme as Everest and those who can't so coasters can enjoy it.

The track is in horrible condition and they are throttling the ride way down to prolong its life..... if this allows them to refurb and replace the track with a smooth new coaster then heck yea!! Good thing
