I do not tip them weekly. I usually just add something at the end of a season.
That's one I don't understand -- you're paying a yard service to cut your grass, trim and clean up. IMNSHO, that's what the $80 a month is for. If they, for some reason, don't do their job, I wouldn't try to improve their work by tipping them -- I'd fire them and find a better service.

True but isn't it better IMNHAA opinion to have someone else to deal with the unwashed ?

That's why I said it's a personal decision...and I don't tip them weekly. I have no idea what these guys make.. but it's 3 of them, and they do a phenomenal job. I'm busy, there's no possible way that I could manage it myself.. and it puts a smile on my face to arrive home from work to see perfect diagonal lines. I know that I'm paying for it.. I don't tip at the end of a season hoping that they will do a better job next year, I just do it to show a bit of thanks, to them personally, not the actual company they work for.

I'll add this too, sometimes I come home and there will be anywhere from 3-6 golf balls on my deck, or another small ball, or toy that may have been in the back. I think it's pretty cool that they actually place them on my deck instead of leaving in the yard.
We go through a lot of golf balls...kiddo is supposed to retrieve all of them, but sometimes a few randoms get left. Anyway, I appreciate it.

I used to employ a cleaning service to come in once a month to clean the house. I did tip once in a while when their service was above and beyond -- say, if the downstairs neighbors' cats made a horrible mess. But more often I'd just give them a 'Christmas bonus' at the end of the year as my personal thanks for work well done. That said, when the cleaning company started sending me letters telling me that a "Christmas tip" was required, I was a lot less happy about being generous.

I invite all the staff for a meal at the big house every christmas and get caterers in to do it.

Yeah.. I would be a lot less happy too!!! I'd find a different service for sure.
I had a cleaning service for about 3 years, and then I finally took advice from friends and hired an independent woman to do it.. really who cares if it's done in 1 hour or 3 if you're not home anyway...and it was much cheaper!!
I had told her to not mess with laundering my sheets or making my bed, I do that myself.. because I'm crazy and iron my sheets and pillow cases. So the first day I arrived home.. she had washed and ironed my sheets!! I was in love!! I tipped her something small weekly and then a little more for holiday bonuses. She was absolutely wonderful, and definitely went above and beyond. She was with me for over 7 years, and 2 addresses.
I'm my own housekeeper now.. miss her tremendously lol.

I couldn't really keep justifying $150/month to clean the bathrooms and sinks and do some vacuuming and sweeping, honestly. I'm my own (lousy) housekeeper now.

I know you joke.. but seriously, I think it's a lot more common in the US over the past 20 years or so, than it was in the past. Probably because women are a little more time crunched (outside of the home) than our own mother's were. I only have a lawn service, nothing else now.. but if I was still willing to afford a housekeeper I would do so in a heartbeat.
With men needing a cleaning service, well- they're men. They need all of the help they can get ;)

I am too! I get it.
