I grew up spending a fair amount of time at The Greenbrier.
I have never gotten the impression that Disney accommodations are anything more than 3 star hotels with a great location.
So
What a perfect explanation of Disney's "deluxe" hotels.
What really annoys me is when the hotel CM's, most memorably for me personally at the Grand Californian and Grand Floridian, act all snotty and cool and think they are providing "world class" service because some cheesy assistant manager told them so and their lobby is 75 feet tall. These CM's are clueless and poorly trained and held to mediocre standards. The service at these hotels are like a Marriott Courtyard on a good day, nothing more.
As for Disney Springs doing poorly, I said this earlier In another thread but this January will be telling to see who closes. They'll all get through Christmas, and then regroup.
As to DS doing 'poorly' as I noted before that seems to be affecting the shops on the 'Marketplace' side, Not so at the Town Center. There are some restaurants which are not long for this world but hey that's the signature restaurant business writ large some succeed most fail.
I think we can chalk Disney Springs overall as a SUCCESS for TDO, Shopping is not my thing but hey for lots of people it is almost a reason for being alive and Disney has done a excellent job in catering to this group.
