Disney springs not doing so well.....

I grew up spending a fair amount of time at The Greenbrier.

I have never gotten the impression that Disney accommodations are anything more than 3 star hotels with a great location.

So
What a perfect explanation of Disney's "deluxe" hotels.

What really annoys me is when the hotel CM's, most memorably for me personally at the Grand Californian and Grand Floridian, act all snotty and cool and think they are providing "world class" service because some cheesy assistant manager told them so and their lobby is 75 feet tall. These CM's are clueless and poorly trained and held to mediocre standards. The service at these hotels are like a Marriott Courtyard on a good day, nothing more.

As for Disney Springs doing poorly, I said this earlier In another thread but this January will be telling to see who closes. They'll all get through Christmas, and then regroup.

As to DS doing 'poorly' as I noted before that seems to be affecting the shops on the 'Marketplace' side, Not so at the Town Center. There are some restaurants which are not long for this world but hey that's the signature restaurant business writ large some succeed most fail.

I think we can chalk Disney Springs overall as a SUCCESS for TDO, Shopping is not my thing but hey for lots of people it is almost a reason for being alive and Disney has done a excellent job in catering to this group.

I've only been there twice, but both times the place was bursting at the seams.

Or maybe that's because everybody was outside, listening to the entertainment and having drinks rather than inside spending in the shops.
I wonder how long until they have the same idea as their theme parks, by removing benches and trees to force people INTO stores.

Generally, I don't shop when I'm on vacation because I don't want to lug the stuff home in suitcase, especially if it's the same merchandise I can buy at home. I think DS should have unique shopping that motivates people to buy because it's hard to find elsewhere.

Also DS may be packed to the rafters, but if people aren't carrying shopping bags, the retailers won't survive.

Wow. This may be the only time I've seen you admitting that Disney may have done something right :).

Never stayed at The Greenbriar, but I completely agree with this assessment of hotels. You can't justify the price of a Disney resort by looking at the accommodations. It's similar to the housing rental market- you can rent/buy a small place on a certain location- overpriced for what it is, but justified by it's location, or you can buy a big house with more amenities but a longer commute and less "perks" of being in an urban location. It's a trade off.
I'm also confused as to how one enjoying Disney Springs is at all relevant to being called a social justice warrior (in the negative sense) o_OPeople are really reaching to the stars around these parts when they realize their arguments hold no merit.
I guess for some people--When all else fails switch it up and start throwing insults.
I'm also trying to figure out how "wealthy" people or Prada, Gucci, Louis Vutton, etc etc are being compared to Disney springs shopping. I said it yesterday- this person has maybe never been to any locations of the stores that are offered. It's the only thing that could make sense. Most are found in at least one mall in a big city and the people shopping at them are just regular people, trendy sure, but not this over the top wealth that this poster seems to be stuck on. You don't need to have a 7 figure income to afford a $200 pair of jeans or a $40 pair of running shorts.

Same here - I never cared about including DTD in a trip itinerary but DS is now a must do.

That's funny. I always used to include DTD in our plans, but now I have no desire to fight parking and access issues trying to visit DS. I don't desire to shop at the high end stores. I liked the bus access down near the Marketplace. Now it just seems like a PITA getting to WOD, EOS and the few little shops on that end I enjoyed visiting.

The parking lots are actually surprisingly nice and much more convenient than the old lots...though I did not think so until I experienced it... What was odd was, We were traveling with a group, it was a couple's 50th Wedding Anniversary, and we wanted to get an $85.00 cake at Amorettes to have in our villa at Saratoga Springs... They had absolutely no plan for a guest to get one of their $85.00 cakes to a guest's resort other than them carrying it out the door and the mile or so back to their villa... You would think when coming up with the plan, they would actually have a system to get things like that to the resorts...I can't imag8ne anyone is buying an $85.00 cake to eat there... Just plain odd.

You don't have to fight parking. Parking is infinitely easier now than it was at Downtown Disney.

That's one of the great things I like about it. Though, the speed of the cars needs to be slowed down a bit. I saw a few cars really moving a couple of times.

Also at the Town Center and it's the same way ti Marketplace, walk from the bus stop and to right

So if I'm taking Disney transportation to DS and only want to visit the Marketplace (WOD, EOS, Christmas Shop) there's no close drop-off?

Enjoying Disney Springs had nothing to do with it.

But a person moaning about "class warfare" and social inequality ruining their experience on a Disney fan forum and then telling us how and why we should live our lives is a tad bit extreme.

There is only one bus stop for the complex and it is in the center roughly. It will be further from EOS, and the Christmas shop than what you are used to since the old one was right next to those locations. WOD is about the same walk from the new as it was from the old.

I am not sure how Disney didn't see this coming if true. The great part about the Walt Disney World Village and Downtown Disney were it's uniqueness to Disney. Disney Springs has really turned into a mall albeit with more Disney stores then a typical mall. Will the majority of people who visit those non Disney stores really buy anything there when most of that stuff can be had online and at a cheaper price? Hell now you can even buy WDW, DL, DCL merchandise online and for cheaper prices. I personally think this area should have not tried to expand to bring in so many 3rd party retailers. Expanding it for capacity is all they should have done and put the Monorail in like the WDW Village was suppose to.

Yes, if you park in the Lime Garage you are literally right behind World of Disney....for the most part. Just come out of the garage and make a right.
My family stays on site and uses DME. The resort buses drop off at the opposite end from EOS and World of Disney. We walk enough at the parks during the day. Not gonna hoof it around DS to get a sandwich and a souvenir. I think there should be more resort bus stops.

That might cross DS off my list on any trip where we rely on Disney transportation. We really only visited those shops and after long days in the park, the last thing I want to do is walk farther than on previous trips just to get my sandwich and a Christmas ornament.

Absolutely agree. Sure the international travelers like to shop. But just how much of the total population do they account for? I assume Disney did research and knows that. And surely they had to know the international markets could take a downturn at any time?
