I hope this is true, but I heard under 5 minutes. I hope I am wrong.
I just mean a lot more screens than GMR (similar to Ratatouille or MM). Those rides look cool, but I would rather keep the GMR practical sets and add Mickey somewhere else.

5 minutes is way too short imho.
I still wonder why theres tons of new attractions that barely go above 5 minutes for 2 hours waits.. x_x

Man. Disney is relying on re-theming lately.

1. GOTG into TOT
2. GOTG into Universe of Energy
3. Mickey into GMR

As Andrew said.. more like Replacing. They are really not adding anything. They are removing and reinserting in the same place. Net gain.. 0.

I'm not in construction/architecture, but now it is becoming rare for new dark rides to open (besides the two SWL rides). When was the last time a new indoor ride opened in Disney World?

And TDO actually thinks it's being clever and cost-effective. But...maybe it is? Seriously, I wonder how much money it saved by putting Frozen in Maelstrom? The makeover looks pretty lush to me. Could it have cost that much more to build a new structure somewhere else? I'm not being (merely) sarcastic. I don't know about these things. Is it that much cheaper? Or did someone in TDO really think that Frozen belonged in the Norway Pavilion?

Makes me wonder too.
What if they are reducing costs by creating attractions that require way less CMs and less energy on their equipments. Hence why they are pretty much demolishing or replacing very old attractions that are heavy in sets and animatronics.

I think Disney needs to do more to break people of the "theme" habit. Over and over again some people complain that certain attractions don't fit their idea of the "theme". Having a cartoon mouse parading through Frontierland, Liberty Square and Main Street USA is a major theme unifier. Having GotG in Adventureland or the AK would fit the theme and be icing on the cake. Perhaps they don't realize that the theme, especially in Walt's day has always been to sell as much Disney IP as possible.

Yes, let's remove theme from a theme park. Get rid of the lands and just have a jumbled mess of attractions.
It will be like Six Flags, but 1000% more expensive. Sign me up!

Well, I believe Little Mermaid was new construction as part of th Fantasyland Expansion. That would be the last one.

And if they ever actually did think about updating it, how do you even do that? The problem is, there's so many GREAT movies and so little space, that people will inevitably feel like some movies..

It's not about movies. It's about genres. Tarzan looks dated but everything else holds up in the greater scheme.

Updating would require ride system work, lighting, audio and AAs. Not necessarily the movies themselves.

Marni I agree it is a shame this is not being updated and the Mickey ride getting a new building, I really have high expectations for the mickey ride though. I think it is something that is so over due and needs to be in the park. I think it has so much pressure on it to be something so amazing as it all started with a mouse I think the ride will be one of the best ever.

I know I am hoping a lot I just got a feeling. But it for sure should be a new build.

just saying "It all started with a mouse" doesn't automatically mean it is going to be an amazing attraction...remember it is being designed by the same people that brought you the cliff notes Mermaid attraction...not Walt Disney or the imagineering team that did the epic dark rides of the past...While I too am hopeful, in honesty I am not expecting it to be very good...iot will be a din=minished budget conscious attraction that is 1/4th the length of what it is replacing....Sad.

No, this ride isn't even confirmed yet. It's just a strong rumor. If it does happen insiders have said GMR will close in 2017.

I hope it doesn't close until after Toy Story Playland opens because it would make zero sense to operate DHS with only 4 rides.

I believe the rumor was they want this to open in 2019 and in order to do that it would have to close before toy story opens.

Sounds like the DHS remake fits the saying "it's going to get worse before it gets better".

We also just had a conversation about how closing ToT now (for a GotG redo) would be a bad idea because it would hurt park capacity in the short term. The only difference here is that ToT is the more high-profile attraction.

Given its already had cuts and will be smaller than originally envisaged (and has space for) it certainly isn't sacrosanct.

It does indeed deserve to be the best. It deserves its own building.

And certainly as an addition, not a replacement.
