Back when my mother was alive, she was waiting in an office to see her accountant. One of the bookkeepers came out and called out her name, and she didn't hear him right away--but a staff member was overheard telling the bookkeeper, "Oh, it's the old lady sitting down there." THAT she heard, unfortunately. She came home and let me know that her feelings were hurt being called OLD; she said she would have preferred elderly as it seemed more respectful. She felt the man thought she wasn't as valuable as a younger person. I did my best to try and lift her spirits and tell her that she was a valuable and contributing member of society, no matter what her age. I never forgot the sad look on her face, so please understand that I'm a bit sensitive about your comment. I realize you meant no harm to the senior citizens.

Compared to young people I am old, very old. I don't mind being called old because many friends and relatives didn't live long enough to be old. I am what I am and, age-wise, I am old. I don't feel old, I don't even think that I look that old and I am certain that I don't act old, but, old I am. I took an online wildly unscientific quiz to determine age the other day and it said I was 26. Who am I to argue. ;):joyfull:

Anyway, their kids have been slacking cleaning up the house so my dad cleaned his old room last. Stuff from when he was a kid was still old the room (old matchbox cars, plastic presidents, pennants and college textbooks). Granted everything should have been thrown out a long time ago. I haven't been out of college for ten years and everything except for a couple books and papers are thrown away.

It was like watching an episode of hoarders and yet my grandmother still wants to keep everything and take it with her. Oy Vey.

I told my dad and my aunt...they should just go in and throw everything out while my grandmother is away and she wouldn't have a clue.

It is a hard call and yes certainly a very expensive call. Thinking a one bedroom small apartment is $3800 a month, one meal. The family went through this with my MIL last year, her children's choice not hers to enter. I think sometimes early maybe better when you are still fully capable of planning your own future. Most of her stuff needed to go and still she has too much in her new digs.

Me I am a selective saver. I saved my kids favor plush toy from their early years, best of the best art work, tokens of their years tucked into jewelry chests. My MIL saves so much. I have two SILs (they are sisters) that are married to the other two brothers (always been a strange dynamic) Their (sisters/my SILs) Mom who is just the nicest lady and I love dearly though not even related to me is a genuine horder. She saves all things paper. In her three bedroom home 2 of the bedrooms that were the daughters were filled floor to ceiling with newspapers, mail, catalogs etc. While in rehab for a broken hip they got a dumpster. Sad, she has started to refill them. Beyond this she is a lovely women, normal in every way. .

LOL I'm still using canned pumpkin as we haven't had our first frost yet and winter squashes including pumpkins taste soooooooooo much better after a chill!

I have one of those super huge freezers and I love it. I fill it with all sorts of goodies to get us though the winter. I also always have at least one cake in it for a "I need a goodie emergency"

I guess that's the most accurate description. Beef substitute:confused: It doesn't taste like beef at least I don't think it does. But then again I'm not sure I remember what beef tastes like. I also like cauliflower "steaks". Just take a large cauliflower slice into slices between 1 and 1 1/2 inches brush with olive oil and grill.
