Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
So I had my interview in Miami last week. And it looks like I am definitely going to Israel probably around mid May or June. And that's where we are with that so far.

Well congratulations.

And I must have missed stage one of this story. Can I have a brief recap? Why? How long? The what fors?
I love travel stories, well minus my Sis' this week but generally.

Not faulting your decisions, but, we cannot deal with life by hiding from it. My youngest Daughter decided to attend college in New Orleans (Tulane). She would call me and tell me about a shooting just outside her dorm or a friend who went out on a date and was held up and her date shot dead so they could get the 20 dollars he had left in his wallet.

Every thing in my being was screaming at me to get her out of there, but, in the end it was her decision to stay where she was. In many ways I admire her for that and today, trust me, she is far more willing to live without fear, but, with a real sense of just how unpredictable life can be and just live it the best she can. One doesn't always have to go to trouble to find it. Sometimes it finds you!

We've shared that story between us before, while the University of Illinois was an amazing experience for my DD and also a top rated University, a bit of DD and I still wish she accepted her scholarship to Tulane being such a different cultural experience. The crime in Champaign Urbana is similar to Tulane and Champaign Urbana is surrounded by farms and is just a micro burst of urban within the corn and soybeans. Crime happens everywhere indeed.

I actually did.
When I was in 7th grade in NoCal, I had a science class that was co-taught (larger than normal classroom) by Mrs. Baker and Mr. Briscoe.
She was this big-haired, blond Texas toad, and he was a turtleneck wearin', bearded California hippie. They were such a hoot together...!!! :joyfull: :)

I had a different kind of fun love'n Bio teacher in High School. Wonder what became of him? His idea of fun was 'being with' one of the cheerleaders. We all knew, took admin a semester+ to figure it out.... Media wasn't as up on that kinda stuff back then...he just disappeared during the second semester.

I know that. I still went to class yesterday (though I checked an extra three or four times that my car doors were locked and I moved my portable air compressor for my tires out of sight). I just prefer being on a campus where I don't have to worry about that kind of thing. Heck, my school doesn't even have police. Security is made up or retired cops. The police only come for football games and if they're called (which other than the shooting scare, I only ever got a message that they had been there once).

It's more been a culture shock getting alerts about armed robberies and stolen vehicles on campus.

Also, a sidenote, the area was just one of many reasons I didn't go to that other school.

Sometimes it is just fate. My DD University has more than its share of crime and during her very first semester they wound up camera'ing all the dorms and swiping 24/7 where before it was only afterhours. The vast majority of times but not always it was being out late at night, not always sober when many things happened. The young guy behind our property at the same University got the snot beat out of him there, he doubled back to a bar to grab his coat. Deemed an off campus group Gang related initiation. Totally random. He was in a rehab center for months and missed a year of school all of his 8 brother and sisters attended free of trouble, he is the baby. My DD was not a party'r and never stayed out late-late. After dark she always requested a University escort when students would be thin in number. Ultimately she was fortunate to graduate from a public University ranked #11 nationwide crime free.
