Thanks for posting the pictures - that helped a lot!!! I had googled halushkas and it came up with a recipe that was basically stuffed cabbage! I haven't had the halushkas that you showed, but it looks like it would be VERY tasty! Now I'm going to go crazy trying to find a place that serves it!!! :)

I'll be going to the deli real soon because of this thread. :hungry:

Actually, the freeze problem is mostly caused by videos.

I have the same issue in video heavy forum posts. like this one http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/disney-world-show-parade-videos-multi-cam-edits.876830/
my browser can freeze up to 2-5 seconds as it loads the ton of videos linked there. and I have a beefy overclocked system (4core 4.2Ghz overclock, 16Gb ram)

I'm on page one of your report, love it so far. It is taking a long time to load on this 4 year ole laptop, but worth the wait.

Those who think we all have to be serious all the freakin time need to get a grip. There's a difference between flat out lying and joking around. I wanted to illustrate the difference by lying about something for the first time ever here and follow that up with a joke.

I lied about going to Africa. I told a joke by using my cat as a tiger prop. See the difference? Lies are evil and wrong. Jokes are funny. I don't lie except in this case to illustrate a point. Lies aren't funny and cause the complete opposite of happiness. I only want people to be happy.

I don't think anyone on this thread feels the need to be serious all the time. But there is a fine line between being funny and annoying the heck out of people. Know your audience.

And now to make use of all of the features wdwmagic has to offer because clearly this horse died a long time ago and beating it further is not going to do anyone any good.

That's what I was thinking. When I interned in an HR department, I did a lot of recruiting calls. We did not leave messages even though the call was basically an interview offer because we had very long lists to go through, and leaving messages would waste our time. There were only specific circumstances when we would leave a message would be if we had previously reached the person and they asked to call back and we didn't reach them the second time. Other than that, each list gets called once, no leaving messages.

Wow. What backwards HR department did you work in? When I was in the HR department I was in they always left a message, recruiting firms too. And after the first message, it's up to you to call back.

Insurance company. The reason for it was that most of the time, people don't call back, so it's better to move on and call others until you actually talk to someone. The HR manager is the only one who ever left messages, but she still said most of the time, people would not call back.

Whew, caught up!

So I was reading something and it got me thinking....what stores will you never shop at or try not to shop at?

For me, I don't shop a lot but....

I try not to shop at WalMart. Happened once or twice years ago.
Hobby Lobby is a definite no. And there's probably more but that's all I can think of for now.

I try not to shop at walmart, but unfortunately there are a few items there that I can find anywhere else in this city... Like my favorite breakfast bars (with quinoa, bulgar wheat, a bunch of other yum grains and honey ) and Mexican mole sauce in a glass jar. I've been known to go there at four am, beeline right to those two aisles, and hightail it out of there.

Their...clientele... Scares me. And I almost always get hit on when I'm there...despite the (very fake) engagement ring I've employed for that store use only...people simply don't care! Ugh.

I also don't like a local chain of coffeeshops. The coffee is carp, the people working there are very cocky and arrogant and it's not a comfortable, quiet setting. I'll go a few blocks out of my way for dunkin donuts, Starbucks, or another local coffee chain.

I will never shop at Talbots again - their quality has gone downhill, but their prices are still high. I bought an outfit which had a jacket, skirt, and sleeveless top designed to be worn over the skirt, with the jacket. The jacket didn't cover the top in the back if I moved. I also purchased a silk blouse at the same time - it was so thin I had to wear a camisole under it.

Not a fan! I've never found anything in the store that fits me. But yet I manage to find a lot at thrift stores that do. For. $3, I don't mind if I wear the blouse once. For it's original price of. $75, I'd have to wear it for several years to justify the cost. I love thrift stores for that reason. :)

or Indian food
or Mexican torta ahogada with a side of guacamole and refried charros beans. :hungover:

*sings* and these are a few of my favvvvoooorritteeeeee things....

What about sopapillas...?

Mmmmmm...!!! :hungry: :)

I'd eat the hell out of that

Do you eat halushkas?

OMG YES. It's very popular in southwestern pa...lots of Russian, German, and Polish here. I haven't had it since my Gram passed..hers was the best...but I may need to make it soon.

It's amazing how food can be traumatic sometimes.

Holy cow - I've never known ANYONE outside my immediate family that has heard of them!

Huge here. IN fact there's a Polish festival upcoming at then Cathedral of Learning in Pittsburgh...I'll post a pic in a minute... Every year that gets ungodly crowded. Every polish food you can think of. I need to steer clear this year. I spent too much last year and ate so much I had to nap in the car for an hour before being able to do ANYTHING. ...it was worth it.

Ya'll need to start speakin Murican.

My eyes kinda glazed over, I will admit.

After a self-imposed time-out.

Today's wake-up picture

This is the cathedral of learning.

I was in the area yesterday, because after a job interview I went here for lunch...

It's called conflict kitchen, and only seves food from countries the USA is ...in conflict with. Currently it's Palestine and just opened with the new menu on Monday.

I had a mezza platter and falafel and it was the best I've ever eaten. Next time I'll try some others from their menu.

They give you a big foldout of interviews they conduct while researching food and traditional preparations and it's very interesting. I made this using a bunch of photos I took of my lunch and the foldout, and posted it to their Facebook page :)

The writing in the middle says "conflict kitchen"

My Adventures in Africa - Week 1

It's been a trying first week here in Africa! The other day, I faced the most trying time in my life. I was told by my peers not to go outside in the forest, away from the security gate; however, my curiosity got the best of me!

I wanted to know what was out there, what worlds remained hidden. I wanted to see the unknown. I wanted to explore. I wanted to be free, like the zebras and the giselles. I wanted to stick my neck out, like the giraffe. I was determined and stubborn, like the hippopotamus. I was like a determined meerkat, and there was no stopping me!

So, I had ventured outside our base camp, into the jungle. Into the unknown. Suddenly, out from beyond, I felt a cold stare. I was being followed, but I continued walking. Who, or what, could it be, I thought. Maybe I should have listened to the others. Maybe I should have stayed at basecamp, where I was told it would be safe.

I continued walking into the unknown, all the while feeling like I being watched. Then, hidden deep in the shrubbery, I saw the eyes, staring coldly, glowing!

I was scared, even freightened. I was spotted by a beast, a dangerous beast. I paced my walk in a slow dribble as to not startle the animal. Maybe, just maybe, it would let me live. Maybe, I would live to write about this, I thought. (Obviously, I lived, witnessed by me writing this.)

The beast jumped out from behind the bush! It was a ferocious tiger, orange and black with white stripes. I thought, if I die, maybe I could leave proof that I was here by taking a picture with my iPhone. Hopefully, someone would find my iPhone, I thought, and find what I was about to take.

I slowly, quietly, took my brand spanking new iPhone 6 from my pocket. I looked the beast in the eye and SNAPPED what you see here below.

I think we all know lies aren't funny. I think we all know your jokes aren't funny. To lie about going to help in a country that is truly in dire need of it is pathetic. There are people who dedicate their lives to this (such as @JenniferS aunt) and you mock them by this dribble. All I can say is you must be a sad, sad attention starved man. You're wanting to make people happy? Think five, no maybe six times before posting carp here.

It took my mom YEARS after my grandma passed to make them. Apparently my grandma was taking credit for the cooking most of the time (asshe often did with a lot of things - story below) but my mom was making them so they were exactly as I remembered. She passed almost 12 years ago so it's easier to remember the great memories and push back the sadness at this point. Although the sadness is always still there.

Once my grandparents came to visit (I was probably 8) and my grandma got out of the car and handed me a wrapped tray of cookies from the bakery with the label still on. She remarked how she baked them for me. I said "you bought them - the bakery tag is still on them". She accused me of calling her a liar and we went back and forth on it a few times. So she said "well if you don't appreciate my baking, then I will never bake for you again!". So I said "fine - thank you for baking me cookies". And she looked at my mom and said, "this one's not too bright - she thinks I baked these cookies!". And that was my grandma. She was a pain in the rear every opportunity she got but man did I loved her!!!!

I agree. Time to step away from the computer - some people should not be posting on the internet. To paraphrase an often used break-up line , "It's not me, it's you."
