CHALLENGE 2: HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD/FIXER UPPERS!
Team Land's Submission

5576557_orig.jpg

OVERVIEW
Our choices for theme were the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Land of Oz, Gangsters, Titanic or "The Hollywood That Never Was and Always Will Be".

The southern half of Walt Disney Studios Paris is currently a thematic mess. The building facades look like they belong at a local carnival, not at a Disney theme park. What the park needs is an attraction to tie the park together-- a "cornerstone", if you will. And that attraction must be a headliner; a jaw-dropping, totally immersive experience that is unlike anything guests have seen before.

With that in mind, our team chose the theme of "The Hollywood That Never Was and Always Will Be". Our area is an extension of the already existing Hollywood Boulevard in WDS.

HollywoodBoulevard.jpg

We created the E-ticket ride Voyage à travers les Films (Journey through the Movies). As the name states, the ride is a journey through the greatest films of all time, where the guests themselves are caught up in the action and fantasy.

We want to make one thing clear: This is NOT the Great Movie Ride. While it's the same general idea, our attraction puts the emphasis on the guests. Instead of watching the movie happen around them, like in GMR, the guests are actually playing a role IN the movie. They are swept up in a tornado and land in Oz. They are on the Titanic as it sinks.

At the same time, we felt that this area of WDS needed more to do. While the focus of this challenge is on the E-ticket ride, we decided that to establish a proper theme we would have to create more. So we re-themed Rock n' Roller Coaster, merged restaurants together, and created a C-ticket ride to go with the E-ticket. In order to maintain the theme and create space, we got rid of the shows "Moteurs... Action!" and Armageddon.

The challenge stated that we needed to develop the exterior of the area as well as the interior. To accomplish the Old Hollywood feel we used a mixture of Art Deco, Spanish, and 50s architecture. Throughout this post we will indicate existing buildings that are the inspiration for the new facades.

Here is the layout of the area:

1570944_orig.jpg

As you can see, we added a new "City Park" to create a transition between our new area and Toon Studio. Also, note the themed indoor walkway on the right (think Arcades) that connects the two Hollywood-themed areas. Although it's not part of our expansion, the tram tour will receive a new facade as well to replace the Hollywood sign backdrop. It will be a studio entrance gate; something like this:

E-TICKET: Voyage à travers les Films (Journey through the Movies)
Voyage à travers les Films is a thrilling journey through the greatest movies of all time, where the guest plays a starring role.

FACADE
The facade of this ride is themed as the famous Carthay Circle Theater, where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered. The facade, while not to full scale, will be larger than the replica at DCA.

fa_231_zolapremier970.jpg

QUEUE
We pass through the attraction entrance, where we have a choice of single rider or stand by. At the beginning of the queue, we are walking down Hollywood Boulevard at night (even though we are really indoors; similar to the interior of the Mexico pavilion at Epcot). A small replica of the Chinese Theater is visible in the distance. The queue leads us down the famed "red carpet", and after a couple switch-backs, we enter the the "theater".

We are now in a hallway in the lobby of the fancy theater. As we proceed through the queue, the building materials get older and the electrical lamps are replaced by fake gas lamps. This creates the sensation that we are going back in time.

At this point, the Standby and Single Rider lines merge, but then the queue splits off once again into 2 loading areas. When we arrive in the loading area, we find a vehicle waiting for us.

VEHICLE AND RIDE SYSTEM
The vehicle is themed as a section of a movie theater, with red plush seats.

BSS1230_l.jpg

This vehicle has tiered seating and can sit 24 people with 6 rows of 4. Each of the 2 loading areas is equipped with 2 loading stations with 6 tiers of boarding passageways each (1-12) which match up with the 6 tiers of seating in the vehicle.

The ride system is nothing like you've seen before. To sum it all up, it’s a combination of Indiana Jones Adventure, Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey, and the Great Movie Ride’s systems but with it’s own unique elements. The ride system consists of 1 car with 24 seats, a motion base, 2 Kuka arms and 2 layered tracks.

This vehicle sits on top of a motion-simulator base, which allows the car to spin, tilt forward, backward, side-to-side, jerk and bounce. Attached to the bottom of this motion base are 2 robotic Kuka arms (one in the front and one in the back), as well as 4 small wheels.

The Kuka arms can extend and retract, allowing the vehicle to move up and down. By extend and retract, we mean that the arms can slide into each other like a telescope, and can bend at the point shown in the diagram below. This means that the Kuka arms can extend many feet into the air. When the vehicle is off the track, this gives the sensation of flight, an outstanding and thrilling experience for the guests. The Kuka arms fit through the slot of the top track (Track 1, which is wider than usual) and can retract beneath it, allowing the car to rest and roll on Track 1 using the wheels on the bottom of the motion-simulator base.

The other ends of the Kuka Arms are attached to the base of the ride system, which moves through the attraction along the lower track (Track 2).

RIDE
We enter into the ride vehicle. After all the safety checks are done, the vehicle is dispatched and we move into the first scene, a small late 1800s cinema. (There are 2 cinemas, one for each boarding area).

First Scene -
In this cinema, circa 1895, we watch a small portion of a silent movie. This movie is one of the very first films ever made, and shows a train approaching a station.

But soon, a thick wall of fog falls in front of the screen and the same movie is projected onto it. Meanwhile, the normal screen behind the fog rolls down and we move forward, through the screen and into the world of movies. A real life train identical to the one in the film is about to hit us. We swerve out of the way just in time.

After we move through, the fog is vacuumed up and the screen rolls back down for the next group of guests.

Second Scene-
(Note: The two separate loading area tracks have now merged into one.)
We arrive in Kansas, at Dorothy’s farm.

twister2-1-2.jpg

The whole set is in sepia tones, just like in the movie. We see the farmhouse, barn, and silo in the distance. Soon, we notice a tornado that is projected. The wind picks up and we head toward it. The vehicle lifts slowly to the sky (through the use of the Kuka arms). We enter a room where the interior of the tornado is projected (similar to the Mystic Manor effect). We are jerking back and forth slightly and spinning, and fog is whirling throughout the room. We see objects and people fly by, such as a cow, an old lady in a rocking chair, two men in a boat, and finally, Miss Gulch on her bicycle.

After some spins, we slowly descend (using the Kuka arms) and arrive in Munchkin Land!

Munchkin Land is filled to the brim with color and happiness. The layout of the set is just like in the movie, with the fallen house off to the side. The animatronic Munchkins, are singing "The Wicked Witch is Dead" and Glinda is floating in her bubble above our heads. The vehicle is bouncing to the tune (the Kuka arms are moving up and down and the motion base is moving gently side to side).

We turn a corner and see an animatronic Wicked Witch of the West flying above our heads on her broom. We now enter a corn field, which quickly turns into a forest as we move along.

Third Scene -
We move through the forest. It is daytime, birds are chirping, and a waterfall is flowing. We come across a small cottage with a hay roof and wood siding. As we approach, we hear an upbeat tune. When the door opens, we see Snow White, Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey dancing.

Then the vehicle begins spinning and weaving in and out of our favorite characters. Finally, we back away, still facing the scene, and exit out of a side door. The ride vehicle then enters a darker forest and begins to descend down a slope backwards into the depths of the earth.

Fourth Scene -
We find ourselves in a laboratory, filled with all kinds of gadgets and machines. Our vehicle travels down a hallway and we see lightning strike in the distance. It is a stormy night, and Dr. Frankenstein is creating his newest monster. We round a corner and see the animatronic Doctor and a table with a hideous monster on it. The monster comes to life right as lightning strikes.

The vehicle starts to shake and fire erupts all around us. The scientist yells "It's alive!" and on a screen, the monster sits up and starts limping toward us. The vehicle backs up, and right before this huge, hideous monster lunges, we dive down a drop on the track and "run" at a high speed away. The motion base is bobbing in a running motion, giving a realistic illusion. We begin to make an ascent and we come out in...
Fifth Scene -
...The park where Mary Poppins, Bert, Jane and Michael are riding the carousel. We see penguin waiters dancing around us to the tune of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. The vehicle is bouncing to the tune and spinning as well. Animatronics are used for the figures of Mary, Bert, Jane and Michael while everything else is brought to reality by the usage of screens blended with real props. We then round a corner and arrive in front of the Banks' house, and see Mary Poppins flying away with her umbrella.

17%20Cherry%20Tree%20Lane.jpg

This is when a very convincing effect takes place. The Kuka Arms begin to extend and the motion base tilts gently to the sides and the front and back, convincing guests that they are rising into the air. The rooftops of London, displayed on screens, quickly grow smaller and smaller (giving the effect we are going higher then we really are). We soon land among the stars...

Sixth Scene -
We soon land on the planet of Tatooine, where the Pod Race is about to start. We are in the race and our vehicle pulls up to a screen showing the starting line. Our vehicle/pod racer is vibrating and we hear the countdown: 3, 2, 1, GO! Our pod racer zooms away (the vehicle tilts back) and the motion base is synced with the screen to simulate the motions that are happening in the race. We then pull away from the screen and race down the track. This is where real props and sets are used.

The canyon walls are directly to our sides and we hear the narrator telling us that there is a jump up ahead and be prepared to use it. So, the narrator counts down 3, 2, 1, Jump! This effect is using the Kuka arms. One arm extends very quickly (the front one) and then the back arm extend quickly. This gives the illusion that we are going off a jump. Then, the front arm retracts directly before the front one, making us think that we landed. We round a corner, still going fast, when we make a sudden stop. A voice says: Great Job, You won!

In front of us, we now see the Millennium Falcon and the main access hatch opens for us. The track moves up, into the ship and we hear a voice say Alright, HyperSpace! And we take off very fast down the track through the stars. We then slow down as we approach a giant porthole that leads into another famous ship...

Seventh Scene -
We enter the great hall of one of the most famous ships in the world, the Titanic.
We then hear a large Boom and the motion base shakes. The vehicle zips up the grand staircase and moves down a long hallway, shaking and bouncing along the way. We now enter onto the deck and see the Atlantic water roaring below (shown on projection screens). The ship now appears to be tilting and loose items such as deck chairs, tables and shuffleboard pieces are sliding down the slope. The vehicle turn around of the motion base platform and begins to "slide" down the deck. The Kuka arms move up and down to simulate different items the vehicle is trampling and running over.

We are closing in on the water as the boat is sinking (the projection screens are causing this illusion) and we hear an exclamation, You're going under! Now, the vehicle slows down suddenly and we feel a blast of mist and wind. This simulates going under the surface of the water. The vehicle turns around and and levels out to give the illusion of being underwater. The Kuka arms and motion base work together to "float" by raising, lowering and tilting gently and slightly to give an submerged effect. Guests are now in a room where on the walls, ceilings, and floors are projected images of water and the ocean. We see the ship sinking to the bottom of the ocean next to us and some small lifeboats floating above our heads. We continue to move forward and pass into a new underwater room...

Eighth Scene -
We are moving through the ocean using the same underwater effect that took place in the Titanic room. We see a submarine creep out of the darkness. As this strange submarine comes closer, we discover that it is the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

3QuarterFrong_HighRes.jpg

The Nautilus floats by us and we see Captain Nemo in the Captain's seat, steering the massive sub. Then, Captain Nemo steers the sub underneath our vehicle, so that we cannot see it anymore. What happens next is sure to startle us: the vehicle starts to jerk, and with the help of projector screens and the Kuka arms, we are lifted out of the water by the infamous Giant Squid (an animatronic). Our vehicle jerks, shakes, rises, falls, and tilts, as we try to escape from the grasp of the giant squid and its large tentacles. Finally, we escape. We rise out of the water and into the next room...

Ninth Scene -
We enter the next room to find a lush rainforest filled with all kinds of plants and animals that are nothing like we've never seen before. We trek through the jungle, the motion base simulating walking, and discover the beauty and majesty that is the planet of Pandora. Next, we are swept off our feet by a banshee and fly through the air above Pandora. The motion base simulates the flight motion while the Kuka arms lift the vehicle off of the track. We see Jake (in Avatar form) and Neytiri (the Na'vi) on the backs of separate banshees and hear them hollering in delight. Soon, we land in the rain forest and everything turns completely black. We hear singing in the distance.

Tenth Scene -
Note: This is where the track splits, leading to two separate last scenes and two separate unloading areas.
We are now in on top of a mountain at night overlooking a large city, where we hear a choir singing. We take off into the air once more (using the Kuka arms and motion base) and fly over the famous city of Hollywood, in the 1950s. A narrator explains the importance of a story to any movie and that as long as there is imagination left in the world, movies and films will always have a meaning behind them. (This line is inspired by Walt Disney's famous quote). We turn around and see the famous Hollywood sign on a hill behind us, lit up at night.

10743625314_272c723612.jpg

Now we hear the narrator talking about the future of movies and how they will always change into new and exciting shapes and forms. We back away from the Hollywood sign and enter a wall of fog.

Through the fog, we enter a 21st century movie theater with a film of the Hollywood sign projected on the wall of fog. Similar to the effect in the 1800s cinema, a real screen rolls down behind the fog and the film is projected there. This gives the illusion of "exiting the world of movies" after traveling through their entire history. After a few seconds, the motion base turns around, travels up the aisle and arrives in the unloading area.

The unloading area is themed to the lobby of a 21st century movie theater and exit the vehicle. We leave the attraction and arrive back in the old times of Hollywood. With any luck, we are left saying, "Wow."

HOLLYWOOD EFFECTS INSTITUTE: C-TICKET AND SHOW
To help fill out the area and give guests more to do in this park (which needs rides desperately), our team also created a C-ticket attraction: Laboratoire d'Effets Spéciaux (Special Effects Lab).

The attraction is set in a building themed as the "Hollywood Effects Institute", a school for film students to learn about the science of special effects in movies.

The facade of the building draws on the style of Spanish missions, and looks somewhat like this:

StPaulSq--03.JPG

The building has two sections: A theater themed as a "lecture hall", and the "laboratory", where the ride is located.

In the theater is a magic show which is performed at different times throughout the day. The show is made up of classic large-scale illusions, and the magician demonstrates how they play a big role in special effects. He/she even shows the audience how to do a few tricks for themselves.

The ride is a tour of the laboratory of the Institute. The ride system is reminiscent of the Journey Into Imagination ride in Epcot, so the vehicles stop at different points throughout the ride. The ride moves through the makeup, illusion, and pyrotechnics labs, where you see examples of each type of effect. The highlight of the ride is a minor explosion in the pyrotechnics lab, after which fireballs shoot in your direction and narrowly miss you.

ROCK N' ROLLER COASTER RE-THEME
As mentioned above, to help fully immerse our guests in the story we are telling with the E-ticket we had to do a bit of re-theming of the area around it. And if course, this included the park's big thrill ride, Rock N' Roller Coaster.

When you first reach the area that houses the ride and new area created by our team, one huge thing that you will notice is that the facade if the coaster looks completely different, to match the rest of the theming. It would look similar to the radio station that is in DHS, except on a bit of a larger scale:

radio-disney-studio_0.jpg

Also, the storyline has changed. When you walk in, you enter a radio studio from the 40s-50s. You see different plaques and images on the walls of the queue as you wind down the halls, to match the theming. Finally, you get to the recording room; similar to what you see in the current version. The new storyline is about a producer that is gambling on a small band with a much different take on current music.

After a few seconds of demonstration, the producer decides it's a go and gets a last minute spot on a "rookie" concert later that night. The band is shocked, and realize they need to leave now. That's when the storyline becomes similar as you get in your 50's limo and ride the coaster to get to the concert.

DSC_0059.jpg

In the middle of the ride you arrive and start playing music. The music is original; not by an existing band. The music is in the style of very early rock n' roll. When you get off the ride, you enter the "backstage area" and a cast member congratulates you on completely rocking the concert and exciting the audience.

RESTAURANTS: Sock Hop Diner and Le Palme d'Or (The Golden Palm)
This new mini-land will contain 2 restaurants, one Table Service and one Counter Service. Currently in the Back lot at Walt Disney Studios, there are 3 dining options, all of which are subpar. These restaurants are Café des Cascadeurs, Blockbuster Café and Restaurant des Stars. These restaurants will be changed and merged into new dining options that will meet everyone’s needs. All of these restaurants, along with the show Armageddon, will be gutted and merged into 2 new, exciting dining experiences.

Replacing Armageddon and Café des Cascadeurs will be the all new Sock Hop Diner counter service location. The facade will be inspired by the old Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles, which you might recognize from the entrances to DHS and DCA.

pan-pacific.jpg

Here, you can get all of your favorite Americana options such as les hamburgers (hamburgers), les offres de poulet (chicken tenders), frappé (frappes) and so much more.

Replacing Blockbuster Café and Restaurant des Stars will be an all new table service restaurant called Le Palme d'Or. This means Golden Palm, and is the name of the highest award given at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The facade resembles the Market on Buena Vista Street in DCA.

MortimersMarket.jpg

Here you can dine in and around your favorite real movie props and set pieces, most of them protected behind glass. At this restaurant, cuisine is based on movies that take place around the globe and features dishes from Italy, China, Mexico, The United States, England, Japan and the oceans of the world. Bon appétit!

Music Pieces to help covey our Project …

Team Sea: Challenge 2

To Team Sea, Disney Studios Paris is in need of a lot of help. But, for starters, needs a base to it's recipe before adding other movie accents to make it a spectacular day park.

Today, Team Sea proposes bringing in time period of the Golden Age of Hollywood to anchor the park as a brand new "land", Sunset Way. This will "center" Disney Studios and make it less "Split up" with Animation and Live Action. Sunset Way will also celebrate the top movie genres through attractions, restaurants and shows to produce a one of a kind experience to Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.

The Location of this amazing overhaul will take place of the Studios Tram tour entrance building, and the entire Production Courtyard. Le Théâtre d'or will be the parks new icon, with the Tram Tour and a new table service restaurant inside. Stitch Live! will be relocated to Toon Studios, as to Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, which will be moved to the Backlot. Many other buildings in the Backlot will also get a retheme, to become better transitions to the area. In it's place will be a spectacular new E-Ticket ride Called Gangsters de Hollywoodland. Celebrating Old Hollywood, Classic Gangster movies and the Wild influence on the 1920s. But to really give this overhaul a reason for guests to stay an entire dayat the Studios, We're giving Walt Disney Studios Paris a brand new nighttime Spectacular.

Sunset Way: A new land that's fun for all ages!
ScreenShot2014-07-19at35054PM_zps7549668e.png

Horn & Hardart Automat

The buildings of Sunset Way feature many strange oddities indicative of the 1920s. Guests walking through the land will come upon a rather small building with a very large opening to enter. Above this opening hangs a series of metal letters that read “Horn & Hardart.” Entering this building, guests will find a counter service restaurant. This, however, is quite different from the normal Disney counter service. Horn & Hardart’s is an automat.

For those who may or may not know what an automat is, an automat is essentially the precursor to the vending machine. The back wall of the automat would be a series of small cubbies out of which you could pick up any kind of food they were serving. The food would be made on the premises, and placed in their respective cubby in anticipation of hungry customers. Horn & Hardart’s is exactly like this. Guests can go in, grab whatever food they desire, pay for it at a serie of counters, and either eat it there, or take it with them for a quick, mobile meal.

The inside of Horn & Hardart’s is actually quite elegant. The floor has a large checker design, made out of marble, and guests can sit in elegant wooden chairs at just as elegant wooden tables to enjoy their meal. The actual automat is made completely out of metal, with each cubby featuring a shiny brass handle to open and take food from.

Horn & Hardart’s will be an incredibly interesting experience, as automats really haven’t been popular since the ‘40s. They’re a dying breed and it would be great, both from a theming perspective and a historical perspective to open a brand new automat.
machinebank.jpg

Fairbanks’

Fairbanks’ is the main store of Sunset Way. Placed in a rather large building, Fairbanks’ is modelled after some of the richer stores of Hollywood. Inside, guests will find a two floored store. The floor will be made of beautiful, white, black, and turquoise tiles, like a mosaic. In the center of the first floor sits an absolutely stunning multi-tiered fountain, made of sandstone, and done in an art deco style. The second floor only takes up about a quarter of the floorspace, and is placed near the back of the store, looking out onto the front. Wrought iron railings sit at the edge of the second floor, adding to the elegance of the store. Hanging on many of the tan walls are black and white photos from Hollywood’s golden age: behind the scenes photos, drawings of Hollywood, famous actors, and landmarks all hang around the merchandise and check out counters.

Around the store sit merchandise for both WDS, and Sunset Way. Buy pins, Vinylmations, t-shirts, plushes, and toys all for Sunset Way. Once done shopping, guests can head to the back of the store to check out at artfully crafted checkout counters, made of dark wood.

Fairbanks’ will be the shopping hub of Sunset Way, and its elegance shows this off perfectly.

Mugsy’s

Behind Gangsters of Hollywood, sits a rather decrepit-looking shack. Above the doors to it sits a shoddily-made sign reading “Mugsy’s.” Entering, guests find themselves in a black market of sorts, selling all kinds of merchandise for Gangsters of Hollywood. This merchandise is strewn about the small wooden structure, placed on crates and barrels, and hung from shoddily-made hangers. On the walls hang pictures of Mugsy and his various connections. Some pictures see him standing with Mickey Cohen, others show him sitting in a jazz club. Other pictures feature a woman, also curiously named Mugsy with other various gangsters and such. It’s a very strange place. There’s not a whole lot in it other than the merchandise and the pictures. Guests can buy tons of merchandise based off of Gangsters of Hollywood, however. Once done shopping, guests can check out at the back of the store, and continue about their day.

NOTE: The gag of some photos featuring Mugsy as a man and a woman is a reference to the Great Movie Ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In the ride, the ride vehicle is hijacked by a gangster named Mugsy. Sometimes Mugsy is a man, other times Mugsy is a woman. Just figured I’d point that out in case the gag was lost.

Le Théâtre d'or : A Fresh new start to the Studios.
ScreenShot2014-07-23at91442PM_zpscba959b4.png

ScreenShot2014-07-23at92357PM_zps48d73b11.png

Gangster de Hollywoodland will be a brand new E-Ticket coming to the parks. As famous movie followings come and go this E-Ticket won't be based a specific gangster or 1920's movie, but the idea of the famous Gangster Movies. And, what better place to have the setting of this attraction in Golden Age Hollywood, as well? Guests will Ride in their own "jalopy" throughout the attraction, which is an Indiana Jones car modeled to the 1920's. This attraction should entertain guests at the Studios for years to come, while giving Paris another original ride, to fit the entire resort.

Script

Notes: There will be translation cards for English and other languages. All Dialogue is in French except the safety spiel and people's names.

Guests enter an alley and start go into the building where they go through a small shack in Hollywood, where you hear an old radio playing the ride's title song. Scattered on the floor will be newspapers saying in both French and English:

· West End of Hollywoodland is now controlled by Frankie King

· Hollywoodland Police Looking for Rita’s Gang’s Hideout

· Speakeasies: Blind Pigs or Tigers?

· The Model A: Mr. Ford’s Miracle

On Top of 3 Taxi Cabs are three couples doing the Charleston to Runnin’ Wild.

Across the theatre will be stores. Stores:

· The Fortune Teller’s Stall: The Fortune Teller will always be predicting the past.

· Rita’s Definitely Not Secret Hideout Boutique: Wanted Posters will be plastered all over the exterior of the boutique saying Wanted Rita! And, If anyone finds Rita’s Hideout contact the Police. Every once in a while Rita will open the door and look around and snicker.

· Tin Pan Alley: There would be a huge hole on the storefront shaped like a car. Inside will be aisles of self-playing tin pans.

· On the Level: in the store front window will be lying detector which will always be on lying mode.

When your car turns around, the guests will see the inside of some classy buildings, and things start to get a little wild, seeing inside of speakeasies and wild flapper parties and start to go into the Hollywood underbelly. You then see an old cop directing traffic, one car going down one street, another the other way. This is where the car routes split into two, providing two different guest experiences before the finale…

ht_Bar_081027_main.jpg

First Option - The Liquor Switch

A shady gangster nearby "hid some liquor" in the guests ride vehicle, as guests here a "Drive as fast as you can" from the gangster, they start to hear sirens. The gangster laughs in the background and the guests drive down dark roads fast with their car jerking back and fourth, and even encountering a drop, while being chased by cops.

Second Option - The Gangster Getaway

We Start to go deeper into darker areas of hollywood, where we see mobsters meet and sneak around the area. Gangsters have the guests surrounded in the ally as the leader asks for the guests belongings and valuables. With the guests turning the offer down, the car soon takes a personality of it's own, speeding and turning down dark roads and plummeting down darker into the underbelly.

Lookout Gangster: Têtes! Frankie semble que nous avons de la compagnie!

Frankie: Laissez-les en!

(Warehouse Door Opens)

Frankie: Donnez-moi tous vos orchidées et de argent!

(Cars Engine Revs in Reply)

Car gets a personality of its own.

Frankie: Oubliez-les! Apportez Syd à à la endroit.

Finale

Both car options slow down and take a scenic drive, when things get to quiet, guests are thrown into a fight between two rival mobster groups in Hollywood.

gangster-concept-art_0.jpg

Rita: Où est Syd? Frankie.

Syd: Rita!

Frankie: Calmez en bas Syd. Donc Rita comment allez-vous?

(Rita shoots)

(Frankie shoots)

(Shoot out begins)

The guests narrowly escape when they start to see drunk gangsters just shooting inside a warehouse for the fun of it…

Gangster #1: Prenez ça!

(Shoots)

Gangster #2: Vous avez manqué!

(Shoots)

Gangster #1: Vous avez manqué aussi!

(Shoots)

Gusts pass by window and when it thunders it shows Frankie on the floor lifeless.

You turn a corner and exit the warehouse where you see Syd and Rita sitting next to each other on top of a crate. The vehicle stops where Syd and Rita start to speak.

Syd: Vous ne dites rien, vous entendez!

Rita: Pas un mot!

Rita shoots a stop light and Syd and Rita kiss.

As guests are brought back to the load unload station…

Exit Speil –

Syd: Keep yourself in the jalopy till it stops completely.

Rita: Gardez-vous dans le tacot jusqu'à ce qu'il s'arrête complètement.

Hollywood Bowl : A new show building built for a daytime and a nighttime show.

Rising up out of the back of Sunset Way is a Hollywood legend. As one of the most famous buildings in Hollywood lore, and possibly being one of the most famous outdoor theatres, The Hollywood Bowl has welcomed guests such as Monty Python, Simon and Garfunkel, and even President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to its famed stage. Of course, us at Team Sea thought that we couldn’t have a proper Hollywood without one of the real city’s staples. And thus we present to you Walt Disney Studios’ Hollywood Bowl.

This scale recreation of the famed venue sits towards the back of what will become Sunset Way. It will be just a bit smaller than the original, as there really isn’t enough space to facilitate an exact replica of the Hollywood Bowl, seats and all. The theatre will fit about 4,500 guests, all sitting out side, similarly to Fantasmic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The other only real difference would be a very large elevator lift for use during the nighttime show. There will be both a daytime and nighttime show, with the nighttime show finally giving WDS a proper nighttime spectacular.

Mary Poppins : A New Daytime Show
In all of Disneyland Paris, there is no trace of a Mary Poppins attraction or show.

Until now. Sunset Way's Hollywood Bowl will bring a spectacular showing of the classic Mary Poppins film, in a condensed musical of the Broadway version.

Water features, (Similar to World of Color's Just Add Water show during the Day) will act as a "pre-show" of sorts to this event…

City Lights: A New Nighttime show
ScreenShot2014-07-23at91432PM_zps6abdf35d.png

City Lights: The Sounds and Sights of Hollywoodland

City Lights will truly be the most unique nighttime spectacular at any Disney park. Though simple in design compared to other Disney shows, there is one difference that will set this from the rest: The Walt Disney Studios Orchestra.

Yes, a live 50 piece orchestra will play almost nightly to a crowd of 4,500, bringing them on a 17 minute journey through the history of Hollywood. Accompanying the orchestra will be a state of the art lighting system, as well as images projected on water screens similarly to Fantasmic and World of Color. These water screens will come from a rather large pond that sits directly in front of the Bowl, separating the stage from the audience. This pond will also hold a few water fountains as well to be used at certain parts during the show. Anyway, the show!

At 9:00 each night, guests will hear an announcement welcoming them to City Lights. As the lights go down, guests will be able to hear the faint sounds of the orchestra warming up. The sound gets louder as they ascend to the stage by way of the aforementioned elevator system. As the elevator stops, the conductor will raise his/her baton and the music will begin in a flash. A literal flash. Quick bright flash as the water screens rise and the orchestra begins the shows overture, combining multiple movie, and cartoon themes. The first part of the show, lasting about 3 minutes, will show guests a few of the most iconic films of Hollywood’s golden age. For simplicity, here’s a quick rundown of the films and themes featured, in no particular order, other than the first film listed:

.Ben-Hur - 1959

.Gone with the Wind - 1939

.Modern Times - 1936

.Casablanca - 1942

.Citizen Kane - 1940

.Lawrence of Arabia - 1962

Following this, the orchestra will stop, allowing the audience to clap. As they prepare for the next piece, the water screens will change to show the ocean. As this happens, an accordionist will come to the stage, playing “Whale of a Tale” from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” The ocean is still calm as half of the orchestra joins the accordionist in the jaunty piece. Suddenly, however, there is a rumbling in the water. The Nautilus quickly pops out of the water as the other half of the orchestra orchestra bursts with the main theme of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. That’s right. This is an adventure montage, lasting about 4-5 minutes including the “Whale of a Tale” segment. Again, the track list in no particular order (Not including 20k.)

.Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1981

.The Searchers - 1956

.Star Wars - 1977

.Captain Blood - 1935

.The Goonies - 1985

The Goonies section will end the piece, and the camera will once again dip underwater, from the pirate ship set from The Goonies. The orchestra doesn’t have a chance to stop as immediately following this, Marlin and Dory pop up on the screen, yelling Nemo’s name. The orchestra begins to play music from Finding Nemo, as Marlin and Dory continue to scramble to find Nemo. Suddenly, they are sucked up out of frame, and the orchestra quickly begins to play “Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride” from Lilo and Stitch. As Lilo and Stitch surf, Marlin and Dory can be seen popping up over the waves behind them, trying to grab Lilo and Stitch’s attention as they try to find Nemo. Both Lilo and Stitch surf away, blissfully unaware, and Marlin and Dory are sucked into a pipe. The scene quickly changes again to Beauty and the Beast. The orchestra slows down as they begin to play the film’s eponymous song. As Belle and the Beast waltz through the castle’s gigantic ballroom, Marlin and Dory can be seen, somehow finding themselves in a pitcher of water. The pitcher, of course, is alive standing with Mrs. Potts as she sings “Beauty and the Beast.” Faintly, guests can hear Marlin and Dory call for help, eventually flopping their way out of the pitcher and into Chip, who is now freaking out that he is now carrying two fish. As he stumbles, Mrs. Potts, still singing, notices the commotion and tries to help, now struggling to keep singing. In the struggle, Marlin and Dory are flung from Chip, and out an open window, into a small stream. The screens go black and the music stops. Suddenly, the orchestra, beginning softly, quickly falls into the iconic theme from “Steamboat Willie.” Marlin and Dory yell for help. Mickey, who notices them, comes down from the wheelhouse, and tells the pair of lost fish that he thinks he can help them as he remembers seeing a lost fish not too long ago. Suddenly, guests can hear Nemo as he rushes upstream to Marlin and Dory. Reunited, Mickey laughs and says that he has a treat for all the guests too.

The orchestra quickly shifts to playing the Mickey Mouse Club theme as Mickey, dressed in a tailcoat, comes on stage. Using the relatively new technology to make a character’s mouth move, Mickey informs guests that there is so much more to Hollywood than just the movies. He politely asks the conductor if he can take the podium. Taking the podium, Mickey begins conducting the orchestra in a rendition of “Hooray for Hollywood.” The orchestra starts off very slowly, utilizing mostly woodwinds, as the screen shows stills from Hollywood’s early days: The Hollywoodland sign, some of the early studios, The Chinese Theatre, and even the first Disney Studios. More instruments are added as the music picks up, sending guests on a chronological journey through Hollywood, showing the Mary Poppins premiere, Star Wars premiere, backlots, The Hollywood Brown Derby, visuals from the Academy Awards - just everything that’s indicative of Hollywood. Towards the end of the montage, the music picks up to its full speed as fireworks begin to launch from behind the stage, timing perfectly with the music. These fireworks, coupled with the fountains and projections, create an incredible image. It truly is a sight to behold; a celebration of the films, settings, and people of Hollywood. As the song reaches its climax, the music stops for a second as Mickey turns around and gives his iconic goodbye “See ya real soon.” The orchestra then finishes the song as the stage descends out of view.

City Lights will truly be one of the most unique experiences at any Disney park solely because of its live orchestra. I would also like to note that though the show may seem disjointed, I can assure you that it is intentional. In having a live orchestra, our plan is to make it so portions of the show can be changed on a fairly regular basis. Holiday shows could be done extremely easily, and there would be an incredible amount of variety as well, meaning that you won’t necessarily see the same show each time you go to WDS.

One final note is that there will also be hard ticket events. For a fee, you could join the Walt Disney Studios Orchestra as they play “Fantasia” live, with full lighting, and images projected on the water screens. It would truly be an experience to remember, and an experience that can only be found at the Walt Disney Studios.

Thank you for reading.

As a closing statement, we think Team Sea's proposal for Walt Disney Studios Paris may not be a Marvel or an Oz land to draw guests, or even a Great Movie Ride, but a nice mixture of popular, high grossing films in France and famous film settings to send guests to the Studios Park, while making a heart to the park so future attractions and entertainment can lean on this as a basis. Not only are we making guests stay for shows, rides, and nighttime entertainment, but we're also giving the park a start to a new leaf, with a new park icon and new additions to atmospheres and the classic Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic attraction. Just like DCA shot in attendance records during and after it's makeover, this could be the same start for the Walt Disney Studios.

Nous souhaitons les deux équipes bonne chance et ne pouvons pas attendre de voir leur propositions ce soir!

Also, once on the site, music will play. If you wish to turn it off, the audio controls are in the top right of the site.

Wow. That was the best concept presentation I think I've ever read on here. WED's Hyperion Avenue has been dethroned. ;) All kidding aside, the way you guys executed this was brilliant. I guess when you put two IT guys together, they will make amazing web-y things happen. You really smashed your rides out of the park, which you needed to do; they were the focus of this challenge. Avengers Unite! utilized the KUKA technology perfectly and was a well-set up ride. You're use of environmental effects to bring guests onto the helicarrier was a very nice touch. I also enjoyes S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, which was a clever way to allow the little ones to have a similar experience. However, you never clarified if all of your lines were in French, English, or both, which is extremely important to do in a foreign theme park. Though, your visuals alone may have sufficed. Your overall refurbishment of that half of the park would breathe a lot of much-needed life and theme into the area, though I wish you had done a bit more with LMA and RnRC. Making LMA into a stunt show or theming RnRC to Thor or GotG would have been better, IMO. Oh, and nice touch-ups to the Tower on the side. It needs some help. Overall, from Stark Expo to the Brown Derby, you guys might just have won big money this week.

Team Land's Submission

I'm so glad you took the olden Hollywood and ran with it. Your E-ticket was truly that. A must-do attraction. The ride vehicle was amazing, innovative, and ambitious. However, I don't think the KUKA arms are such load-bearing devices. Your queue was clever, taking guests back in time, though it seemed odd that you first entered Carthay Circle Theater, only to almost immediately enter the Chinese Theater within. That would be a bit confusing. Your scene choices were good in my opinion, as you had a proper mix of new and old. It was a level mix, which was a smart choice with not many action packed scenes to experience in classic Hollywood. The Titanic scene may seem questionable to some, as it was a devastating tragedy, but, IMO, using it in an attraction is no different than making a movie about it. While we're discussing Titanic, that was one of my favorite scenes in your ride. Great job making it seem so convincing with the bumpiness and sliding. I can imagine the physical effects now! Remember that Frankenstein is a Universal property. Couldn't be used there. Your use of the arms for flight simulation was another key favorite to you proposal. It's like you took Star Tours and put it on wheels! The effects institute sounded like a fun ride, and I am ecstatic you inserted a physical magic show to offset the loss of LMA and Armageddon. Your RnRC retheme is welcome as well to complete the area, as were your new, classy restaurants. Though, I would have considered including already-produced rock music for the coaster. On the other hand, you guys did a fantastic job overall with your immersive detail this week!

I have to be honest with you. This week, I thought your nighttime spectacular was more fun and exhilarating than the E-ticket. I would love to see that show! Your new restaurants seemed perfect to tie the land together. I've always wanted to visit a real-life automat, but haven't had the chance. With this park mainstay, many people will get that chance. The Golden Theater seemed like a really fun place, like the middle-ground between Rainforest Cafe and the Great Movie Ride. (STAR WARS GEEK SIDE NOTE: Why were Yoda and Dooku battling on Tatooine, and not Geonosis? :p) Pinks seemed like a tasty addition to the area, though an international store might be difficult to coerce them into.Your shops were nice and convenient, and I especially liked Mugsy's and the hidden details (man or woman?). However, I mention all of these elements first because I feel they detracted a bit from your main ride. I liked what you did with the gangster style and all, interweaving Marc Davis gags and such, but the entire experience seemed disjointed. If you're going to do Marc Davis, you've go to go full Marc Davis. It's gotta be stepping into the middle of a basic, simple story. Your concept of the different gangs with Rita and Frankie and Syd was a bit hard to follow. Overall, I liked what you did in the entire area, but I feel you needed to put more of your thought specifically on your ride.

The Tenth Amendment -
An eliminated contestant may be "saved" by any team with less than 5 members. That team must sacrifice 8 Vacation Days in order to save the player and bring them onto their team. Any member that is saved through this amendment will only hold 1 Vacation Day themselves. Eliminated contestants can only be "saved" for the duration of the next challenge, unless noted.
