Probably No Waterparks

We have been planning to purchase the waterparks and more option for our upcoming WDW trip, which is next week.
With the weather looking pretty rainy and the potential for a hurricane, we probably won't be getting it.
I was really looking forward to visiting the waterparks on this trip...we have never been to them before.
So sad. :(

You can add the option for the same price once you are there. The chances of the TD#9 giving WDW problems are quite remote. Afternoon thunderstorms in August are just shy of inevitable but they tend to be quick. If you get to a water park at opening you will more than likely be done with the water park before they hit.

We've gone many times in late Aug. and early Sept., & Yoda is exactly right about getting to the WPs at opening (generally 10 AM this time of year).

The nice thing about the WPAM option is that it is valid for every day of your stay. So, if you do add it, remember that if you catch a good day or two, or even a good afternoon or two, you can go over to the water park. If it starts to rain, you can go back the next day and the next day, etc. In other words, it's not done after one use. It's basically the equivalent to a park hopper in that you can go every day if you want to. So, if you really want to go, I would suggest adding it and then when the sun comes out, catch a bus and head on over. If it starts to rain, catch a bus and go right back the parks. (Note: be prepared to look less that idyllic running to and from a water park, but at least you'll be to enjoy the park!) :)

I agree. Since it is a concern wait until you arrive before adding the waterpark option. If the weather is good you still have the opportunity to go and if it isn't you aren't out the cost of an upgrade you won't use.

Exactly. Add it once you are there if weather permits. Also, verify that adding the WP&M option is cheaper than just buying a 1 day ticket.

The water park option is slightly more than a 1 day ticket. If you are only doing 1 day then a single day ticket is the way to go. Once you hit 2 the water park add on option is the best deal.

With the new pricing structure WDW implemented this year, the Water Park option is only $22 more than a park hopper. I suspect you'll have at least a couple of chances to visit the water parks during your upcoming trip. Wait till you get there and, if the weather is going to be OK, I suggest you visit Guest Relations at one of the theme parks and upgrade your ticket.
You are correct. I forgot that they have somewhat of a flexible price on those options now. If you add it to a multi-day park hopper it is $22. If you add it to a non-hopper it is still $57.

I don't do the water parks, but that's just me. I was wondering if people do the water parks from the time they open, till they close like we do at the theme parks?
Some of course do, but I find them being somewhat of a half day experience. We will get there before opening, stay there through lunch and then bug out about 2-3. After that we will usually go back to the room and clean up and head to a park for the night time activities. During the summer this almost perfectly coincides with the afternoon thunderstorm pattern and puts us inside or in transit during the afternoon deluge.

Some do but most don't. That's why late afternoons are so nice in the parks. People that overlook the water parks really are missing out on the only part of wdw where the competition really hasn't caught up to Disney.

They are that good

We are adding it but trying the loop hole. Since we purchased the package in March, there was a tix price increase. So although with out 10 park hopper it should only be $22 to add the Water park and Fun option, if we do it now, before we arrive, it is actually $22 plus the price of the ticket increase. But apparently there is a loop hole that if you arrive and use the ticket once, then go and add it at Guest Services, it will only be $22. So hopefully we will be able to add it. :)

Don't be discouraged by the forecast yet. Summer weather really is unpredicable. The thunderstorms are almost exclusively in the afternoon. A typical day will start out hot and humid but sunny. By mid afternoon it will cloud up and rain. The rain doesn't usually last too long. More than likely you will be able to go to a waterpark as long as you get there early and you'll a few solid hours atleast. The hurricane is still a long ways way. It is very difficult to predict where it will hit til almost the last minute. Don't stress it too much yet.

We spend anywhere between 2 and 5 hours at a water park, mostly depending on the weather. Most often we're there about 3 hours. We always have park hoppers & WP option. I'm sure most people who just have a 1-day water park ticket would be more likely to wait out the storms and stick around longer.

We are big fans of the water parks and often do water park only days. They are one of the few areas in WDW that are run to the same standards today as they were when first opened. At the water parks, all the attractions are the old fashioned "stand in line and wait your turn"; no Fast Passes to worry about. No Table Service restaurants so no TS reservations to worry about. They do a nice job of keeping everything working so there are very few breakdowns to worry about.

It's possible to spend hours sitting on a lounge chair relaxing or, if the mood strikes you, run off to a water slide for some fun. It's a nice contrast, given how crazy (and exhausting) a day at the theme parks can be.

Crowds are light to moderate in the morning, heavy in the afternoon, and then light again towards closing, especially during the last hour. As a result, the best times to be there are at opening and closing so why not spend the entire day to bridge the gap?

However, we usually have "no expiration" tickets, meaning we want to use our water park and theme park credits on different days. For someone who has tickets without the "no expiration" option, it makes a lot of sense to maximize time spent at the theme parks, not the water parks.

I live in South Florida and yes we are watching Isaac. It is forcast to hit Florida very early Monday morning down by the Miami area as a cat 1 hurricane. It will weaken greatly once it hits land. It will take another day before it makes it to Orlando and maybe go threw at night. By the time it gets there it will just be some rain. Nothing to keep you from the water parks. Just watch the weather for any changes in the path. Orlando is in land and usually only gets rain and a small amount of wind from hurricanes. When we evacuate we go to Disney!
