When there are people who can’t work the fast pass machines and the finger scanners, I am envisioning the order at a kiosk option becoming a nightmare. Just think of the people who get upset at the self check out isle at your local store.

Hopefully they'll have cast members on hand to assist the technology-challenged. If they really want to go "Next Gen" with this, I'd like to offer a suggestion: there should be a time limit on placing your order -- for every minute you take beyond the allotted time, scratching your head and mumbling, "naaaah, I changed my mind, I think I'd like, um, oh I can't decide even though I've been standing in front of the menu for ten minutes... wait, what did you say you wanted, kids?", a person behind you in line will receive a free dessert, the cost of which will be added to your bill.

Agree 100%, this is one if the small things that's sets DLR apart from WDW. I only fear based on their track record that this is one PowerPoint away from going the way of Mickey Mouse butter...

I am worried about that as well...everything opens up with a great menu served on real dishes, but sooner or later Big Phil decides its back to paper plates and chicken fingers...

That said, I'm hoping that's not the case. The MK desperately needs improved food options, both quick serve and sit-down. I'm just wondering how this will affect other locations. I imagine this is going to be a VERY popular location for lunch. Maybe places like the Village Haus right next door will have to improve their offerings to compete.

That's me! But only because the stupid scales can't keep track of what I've put in the bag! Otherwise, I can pretty much handle an electronic kiosk, as long as I know what I want. And we all know it's hard to make that decision while standing in a QS line for 10 minutes. All those choices...

They have self service kiosks I know for sure at the Polynesian in Capt. Cook's. It goes relatively fast, most of the time, but you do get some folks who really have no clue what they're doing. I like your idea, but to make it easier to enforce you should be able to stick post-it-notes to the persons back so that when they get to the register the number of yellow sticky notes on their back adds to their bill. Like the old George Carlin routine about bad drivers. You should be given a toy gun that shoots suction cup darts. When you see a bad driver, simply shoot their car. When they get to the next toll booth, the attendent adds up all of the suction cups attached to their car for the penalty

Don't you love when you buy something that is really, really light in weight, and after you scan it and place it in the bag the system tells you to please place the item in the bag when in fact you already did but it can't detect it. It becomes an endless loop.

The menu dosn't seem all that impressive, so it is a little disappointing. Hopefully it will be better than it sounds. I am more interested in seeing the resturaunt than eating there.

They also had them at Pecos Bill last time I ate there (over a year ago). It was an early lunch and not busy, so it wasn't a high pressure situation, but they are easy enough to use. I'd love to see them in action in a busy period. I wonder if people would skip over a kiosk with no line in favor of a cashier with a line. I see that happen at our Jack in the Box. Self service fast food ordering doesn't feel 100% natural yet.

The DPB said cashiers would be there for anyone not using a kiosk. It's nice to have options.

I think November is a good guess at this point. You might get your wish.

At lease we know they will be taking reservations in August, so they will need to give a concrete opening date at that time. Prior to the opening date, they will probably have a few weeks of soft open without reservations, so I am still holding out hope to get in the place in November (a girl can dream! )

Arrrrgggghhhhh! That is the WORST! Then you have to wait for the rocket scientist overseeing the stations to finish staring off into space so he/she can come override it....only for it to happen 2 items later once he/she has gone back into hypersleep.

I have started to learn the things that are going to cause trouble with self checkout and don't even bother.

Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary also has the kiosks, and I've never seen a problem when we've eaten there. I'm sure there will be plenty to help the rush, and a CM stationed to help problems as they arise.

Okay, so my hope has been crushed for a mid September opening. Due to reservations being taken in August....as with all Disney dining reservations booking is 120 days before. I can only hope for a soft opening for this. I really wanted to cancel Cinderella's table for BoG.

There is no connection between when they start taking reservations and when the restaurant opens. It could open tomorrow and still start taking reservations in August. The initial reservations will not be for 120 days out. It is not out of the question that there could be soft openings in September, although I think it will be later.

Ok - I still want to go...I mean REALLY REALLY want to go...BUT, today's annoucement was a bit of a letdown for me.

The menu sounded great and all, but I was hoping for more fun...more direct tie ins to the song. Of course, we haven't seen the full menu, but I think I'm going to bring my own pate (since I assume that to be "the gray stuff") if it's not on the menu. I also don't consider "late August" a date and "the holiday season" is getting kind of old for me. I know- I should be happy, but I was wanting more.

My other fear...how are they going to handle the crowds at lunch? Is there going to be a queue wrapping out the door? I mean really, I see people lining up at 9am to try and get in the door for lunch...i.e. popping by around 10:30am may mean dining for lunch at 3pm.

On a positive note, they mentioned something about guests finding it to be a good value...so I'm hoping this means it won't be signature.

It won't be Signature. It will be one Counter Service credit for lunch, and one Table Service credit for dinner.

I was hoping for more of definitive date as well. We're know they're taking reservations in August but that's about it! It's still opening "Holiday 2012" and no idea about soft openings! Ugh!
