New resort in VA? + Other rumors and gossip

*not a new Disney resort in VA, I'm misinterpreted it. But the other posts about corporate shakeup are very interesting nonetheless*

I hope this is okay, but WDW1974 and a few other posters made some very interesting :lookaroun posts in the offtopic and moved (understandably) James Cameron thread that could generate some very interesting discussion. This is the rumors forum so hopefully this is a worthy topic to be making, make of it what you will. Mods feel free to lock if not okay.

These are direct quotes from that thread. I've tried to highlight some interesting tidbits and edited some down for readabilities sake...

WDW talks Busch Gardens Williamsburg and drops some stuff on corporate quarrels.
Hah ... now, it isn't really beyond ... even if the wilds of Virginia can be scary to fanbois (no MAGICal purple signs and bright lights!)

And the Spirit flat out believes that BGW is not only a higher caliber park than MK, but by a very good margin (and that's just using Disney metrics that he was conditioned to at a young age) and one of the top parks on the planet ... period! ... of course, you DO already know the Spirit's feelings on this subject now doncha?

Yep it oughta be ... of course so should any number of subjects that have come to a head ... how about why the hiring of Alan Horn to run the WDS may actually push The Weatherman out even sooner (and will DEFINITELY take either Rasulo, Staggs or both on his way out), which really could mean great things for Disney down the road ... or would you like to talk about how TWDC is purposely allowing DLP to become sooo ghetto and default on its debt obligations in the hopes that someone will come riding to the rescue (possibly the government itself ... they did elect a socialist Prez :)) even if they are further destroying the Disney Legacy (and Walt's good name) in the process ... OK, we could talk about Iger has been adament that no more money will be added to Anaheim for 3-4 years now after DCA 2.0 debuts, yet the BoD doesn't really give a damn and privately members have agreed that DL needs a major addition before 'The Boy Who Lived' descends on Hollywood and there are two major attractions already gaining traction amongst Glendale insiders (one that wouldn't surprise any fanboi ... one that would shock many and have them wetting their pants) as 'the answer' ... or ... well, I am a weary Spirit ... seven weeks mostly on the road ... living that one percenters dream Yep. I will have to chime in maybe later in the week.

So ... did I miss anything? (No, not Disney's further gouging of those addicted to Pixie Dust and just plain consumers that want to visit WDW, along with the requisite apologists here doing just that) ... I mean, anything of substance. Has Kevin Yee written anything lately?

Oh, and what the hell is the thread about anyway? :ROFLOL:

I know WDW1974 is a polarizing figure, but Lee follows up WDW's post with one of his own.
I think someone needs to grab '74s post there and use it to start a new thread.
It's surely OT here, and contains far too much information to be overlooked.

74 responds with another post, this time with something about JL.
Hey there No. 2 ... I tried. I am not someone with the initials E.S. so I don't get my own thread (come to think of it, no one else even Steve does!)

But I dropped so much in there.

Did I mention that John Lasseter has threatened to walk after Monsters U comes out if someone else isn't in Bob Iger's chair?

Poster Scoutn757, responds to a poster's comments about Busch Gardens Williamsburg, I snipped most of it because it's a point-by-point rebuttal.
The 'Merican South is not the beyond? Then I guess there is no beyond.
<snipped>
Yes, the point has been made, you either A) have never been B) refuse to accept how great BGW's offerings are, especially for the price C) scared that something might have higher quality in several areas over Disney even though its nature is entirely different. Oh yes, I will go with D) all of the above.

Oh, how I cannot wait for the Resort here to be constructed.

WDW responds (snipping most of this too) to Scoutn757 post, agreeing with most of it and adding this in response to the above bolded section.

Oops, did someone just announce something?

It's OK, I do that everytime a fanboi buys me a drink ... I go off like a broken faucet.

'74 responds to my post asking about JL. What can I say, I was curious.
Unless I am having some fun, I only drop serious things. I am here to try and pass some info on when I can.

JL is VERY unhappy with Bob Iger. He was trying to get Rich Ross removed for the better part of the past year because Ross was sabotaging his pal Andrew Stanton's film John Carter.

Iger rebuffed Lasseter at every turn until the movie flopped even more than Rich could have hoped. And JL did a bit of an end around Bob ... and said that if a certain incompetent never-held-a-job-in-the-film-industry wasn't replaced that he was gonna leave Disney immediately.

And lookee what happened? Faster than a WDW ticket price increase and social media whores defending them, TWDS brought in a very well respected and liked outsider.

Still, JL is furious with The Weatherman (and please don't tell me about their smiling pics together when Carsland debuts next week ... that is corporate spin and PR and means nothing) and since the latter has already made clear his intentions of leaving Disney (for political pastures where he'll fit in like all the rest of the cows), the former has made it known that sooner would be better and that if that isn't by the time Monsters U is out that he's gonna 'retire' up to run the vineyard with Nancy.

[responding to my question about why the Board of Directors is worried about Potterland West, but not the WWoHP in FL]

They don't want a west coast repeat. DLR, by virtue of its size, is even more vulnerable to The Boy Who Lived ... and TDO (your good pals starting with Inoverherheadmeg) keeps selling timeshares and food plans and showing Power Points where those numbers keep going up ... and when anyone asks questions about new products, they pull the same crap they do with dimwitted fanbois and show things like a second Dumbo ... or a 'new' version of The MAGIC, the Memories and ME! ... or start talking about how NEXT GEN will be able to syphon an extra 11% revenue off of each guest starting in FQ'3 of 2013 (oops, did I just say something wrong?:animwink:) and Burbank goes back to worrying about what next to mess with (right now, they are doing a great job with both the governments of France and China! ... oops, I did it again ... my last name must be Spears!;)

A final post from Scoutn757 responding to '74 talking about an announcement.
If I slipped and announced something of that magnitude then maybe I should say they are going to beat EPCOT in the race for a new.... nah I better not... not quite yet. :zipit:

So, we have gossip about a new resort in VA (?) [not a Disney one, but one at BGW], the board of directors pushing for new attractions at the DLR even though Iger says no, JL leaving if Iger doesn't, TDO believing that NEXTGEN will generate more than enough revenue to make up for little new attraction development, and DLP being in a lot of trouble? What do you guys think?

I don't think there is anything in those cryptic posts about any Disney resort in Virginia. I think 74 may be referring to a possible new BGW resort making the park a resort destination on the same level as Disney... What I got from Scout's post is a new country in BGW before Epcot puts another one in.

74's posts are some of the best on here... I love how the posts members heads explode... They can't see how imperfect, and truly dysfunctional Disney is... And when 74 brings up the facts, they can't deal... What is the line from Jack Nickleson?? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!.... yea, some pixie dust brigade members, er, Disney fans can't...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing a new Disney war break out... Should be interesting times... And hopefully, the people who mismanaged this mess get the heave-ho right on out..

I believe if you read the posts, the resort being referred to was potentially for Busch Gardens Williamsburg, not Disney.

Great stuff. Thank you for reposting, I had missed that.

Horn being hired could have big ramifications, not just for the Studios --- could he have his eyes on the CEO seat when Iger steps away??

The Lassiter info is fascinating.

I too was thinking that a VA resort would be DVC (in the style of the Hilton Head or Vero Beach), but what you said about it being BGW makes much more sense. :hammer: Granted I'm not in BGW's marketing demographic out here on the west coast and thus know little about the park, but yeah I'm not the greatest at reading between the lines. I'll edit the post.

Yes, the only thing happening in VA is the potential expansion of BGW.

Everything else that was mentioned....correct.

Are you saying correct in regards to I properly summarized, or that discord in the ranks is true? :lookaroun

Oooo interesting stuff. Thanks for putting it together Rose Marie! I missed that thread as well.

A shame about DLRP perhaps if worse comes to worse it could be like TDR which wouldn't really be a bad thing.

I'm more interested in whats about to go down for DLR and Uni Hollywood....

Has anyone else heard Jay Rasulo mention that, after Carsland and New Fantasyland, there will be no more money allocated for the U.S. theme parks for any new attractions or expansions or whatever???? Jason Garcia confirmed to me on Twitter that he was present in a analyst conference on may 30th when Rasulo said this...

His words, if I remember correctly, were "significantly ramp down capital expenditures at US parks." He was later asked directly about Avatar and he stated that something like that doesn't really move the needle like DCA makeover or a new DCL Ship.

Gotcha.... Cause the post I responded to him on Twitter made it sound like no more money was being allocated to the U.S. parks... which is different that ramp down... then again, I guess ramping down significantly still isn't positive...

Perhaps I should I said if a company like OLC took over.
The big hurdle would still be the debt.

Which seems to only add credence to the stories of troubles regarding "Avatarland."

Right. No new Disney Resort in VA or anywhere stateside likely for the rest of our lives. ... And that's what I got from his post too ... and the young man knows his BGW stuff.

Thanks. I do like to think I give great postage myself. But I may be biased. And there is soooo much going on right now at Disney ... as well as UNI and SW parks ... both domestically and around the globe.

It really is a fascinating time to be involved or just a fan. But Disney will have a vastly different looking management team at the top of the company within two years ... and, possibly, much, much sooner.

Yeah, it's gonna get good (just try and look away at all the DVCs coming to WDW and the looming showdowns in Paris) soon! :drevil::cool::king:

Alan may have his eyes on Iger's desk -- I'd be shocked if he didn't.

But I think he is ... how to put it? ... more like the start of a bridge to a whole new management team.

The Sheriff ain't wanted around these parts anymore ... and not even the ESPN machine or Paramount Pictures presentation of Marvel Studios The Avengers will change that.

Iger is almost up to Eisner level hate in many quarters ... and it didn't take him nearly the same amount of time (or REAL accomplishments) to get there.

I LOVE THE BUSINESS!:ROFLOL:

And yet there are two large projects moving forward at Disneyland as we speak.
And something really big in the planning stages for elsewhere at the DL resort.

Hardly what I'd call "ramping down", but you have to remember who is talking, and who his intended audience is.
