Avatar's arrival ...

In Disney's parks has happened ... just not at WDW.

And, apparently, it has passed quietly ... sorta like standing behind a farty tourist in a Disney queue.

So where can you find the giant blue $exy aliens if not at The Timeshare Kingdom of the World (still sans Marvel characters now and forever so long as UNI desires)?

Simple. DSP. Cinemagique.

Sometime, not quite sure when, the best Disney attraction at DSP (that most of you have no clue exists) 'updated' its film clips to include a scene from Avatar as well as scenes from Black Swan, The Incredibles and Toy Story 3. Not sure what was taken out beyond a shot of Mickey and Minnie kissing from one of the old shorts from the 30s or 40s. ... You can decide for yourselves whether this is a good change or a bad one.

Oh, and this shouldn't give anyone false hope that A-land is coming to DAK anymore than that Hulk meet-and-greet at Epcot.

Good to hear they will break ground late this year. Should be awesome. :sohappy:

You must have been sooo lonely ... :D

When you see REAL artwork and actual vertical construction, then you can be so happy.

And what's with the Lego deal? Like building things that aren't real?

Don't dis the Lego.

You didn't really think you could tip-toe in here without the HAL2000 seeing did you? Just because you can't see him does not mean he can't see you.

Oh, JT, I always expect you to read every word I post.

But I am not tip-toeing ... just back from my five-week, top one percent vacation (it was about two weeks too short really!) and thought everyone would like to know that the N'avi (is that how you write their name?) have made an appearance in a Disney attraction ... just not one at WDW.

Welcome back for real, 74. I look forward to your continued witty posts helping clear out all of the nonsense around here.

Was Black Swan a Disney film? Can't for the life of me remember what studio released it. It was great, though...

I believe Black Swan was 20th Century Fox... And yes, it was a good film...

I think Cinemagique was updated just before your trip.

I'm sure if and when Avland begins the pics will be all over the web. They won't hide this one if it goes as proposed.

And how, might we ask, has it been proposed?

To which you'll probably reply, "yes, you may ask".

Been thinking more and more about a massive INDOOR experience, a convention center sized building with sky projections and such. That's just me thinking, that if I were them, and I were thinking, that's what I'd be thinking. Are you
thinking I'm thinking correctly?

I wonder how they will make a ride out of Avatar. Universal successfully created a ride that was innovative with Harry Potter, but Disney will have to design something even more innovative/new, won't they?

What kind of ride can Disney possibly make??? I just keep wondering......and wondering..........

Do you, or anyone else for that matter, know anything about them laying fiber optic cable supposedly for Avatar behind camp Minnie Mickey?

I might be remembering wrong, but weren't there permits filed either last year or in 2010 for some fiber upgrades around Epcot? I wouldn't look into it too much, as I believe the discussion around that was it was for infrastructure upgrades for more mundane things like better systems to handle NexGen stuff like FP+.

No idea on the Epcot fiber. The gentleman I spoke with over the weekend would be considered a shaky source at best which is why I asked those that would know better. The only reason I even asked it that he explicitly said it was for the Avatar expansion and abruptly stopped.

Breaking ground for Avatarland? When did that get announced?

Sometime last year the word from the mouse house was "Avatar breaking ground late next year". Or something to that effect. They may have said "late 2012". Of course that was probably someone speaking too specifically and that news has since been scrubbed but it came from someone on the inside. I am thinking Iger or Staggs were the source. Or possibly someone from Cameron's team or even TDO.
