What's an appropriate tip if I'm using the ddp

I was curious with two people dining, what's an appropriate tip to leave with using the DDP ? We will be going Dec 24th - Jan 1st and have a ton of advance Breakfast / Lunch & Dinner reservations.

I always do 20% now everywhere we go because it's just easier for me to figure. :ROFLOL: I have given more than that at Disney though, if we have really good service.;)

They typically give a little "suggestions" on the bottom of your receipt, showing I think 18% and 20% (maybe it was 15/18%?) based on the total "bill" (what it would have cost without DDP), which I used as a guideline for making my tip. I tended to go a little over their suggestions, because I find their service tends to be great. It makes it a no brainer, because the tip dollars are "suggested" right there for you, you can just pick one.

as a former and soon to be again waitress I am a 20% or more..we will be on the DDP and there is 7 of us so I know they will include 18% but odds are our servers will get even more because I understand exactly what they go thru, and I have 3 "small" kids who make it more work ( even though they are very well behaved).

I agree with everyone here also. Being on the DDP doesn't change "how" the server or service is...it just changes how it is paid for...I usually tip 18-20%....most times 20%. However, a certain server at the California Grill did such a wonderful job over Thanksgiving I gave her about 25% - she was exceptional!

So it seems 20% is good, but again even during christmas / new years eve?


What about:

-per morning in room cleaning services / maids
-transportation i.e. the bus from on site hotel to parks'

I also know I prepaid cinderella's royal table breakfast which I'm not using my DDP for but it was 100ish I don't remember if the tip was included as I roughly booked 180 days ago.

as for mousekeeping we always did about $1 per person a night.. and we tipped every day not at the end as you may get a different mousekeeper ...

That's what I do too.
I'm pretty sure the Disney transportation CMs (to/from the parks and hotels) can't take tips, however the Magical Express drivers can and do take them. I give a tip if they handle my bags.

If you receive exceptional guest service from a cast member who doesn't work in a table service restaurant or housekeeping, keep in mind that those cast members go out of their way to make magical moments for guests and don't make anything extra. Whether it's front desk, in the gift shop, or on one of the attractions in the park, if somebody goes above and beyond for you, please be sure to let a manager or guest relations know. A lot of cast members have sacrificed everything they have, including their families and friends to work down here in Florida. Most of the time, their hard work goes un-noticed because our society hasn't adopted the notion of tipping people for their good deeds or extrordinary service outside of a restaurant or bar. So like I said, the least you can do is let a supervisor know of a cast member who provides exceptional service to you. They won't get a raise, or a prize, but it will get noted in their file. :wave:

Tip just as you would if you were paying out of pocket. 20% is standard. A little extra on Christmas is fine for the poor people who can't be with their families.

I agree with what everyone has said. Just because you're on the DDP doesn't mean that you don't tip. I almost always tip 20% and sometimes more if the service is really exceptional.

Additionally, TRON is completely correct about not forgetting the other CM's that aren't in a position to take tips, or even ones that do. If you get one, get their name and go to guest relations. They have a little form that you can fill out and even write a small note to that person. We took our DD for the first time this past August when she was 16 months old. We had a fantastic waiter at Le Cellier that fussed over her during the entire meal. In addition, she wanted him to draw something with her crayons and he told her that couldn't draw so he got a waitress to come over and draw something for her. She drew a great picture of Goofy that we have now put in her album from the trip. At the end of the night, I stopped at Guest Relations and filled out this form of commendation for both of them and wrote a really nice note to both of them thanking them for their extra special attention to our DD. We obviously left a larger tip, but we wanted to have a supervisor take notice as well.

I normally tip the 20%. If the service is better than most, I give a little extra.

For Mousekeeping, we usually do $2. It is just DH and I, so our room usually doesn't get very out of hand. However, we brought our 15 year old nephew last year, and the room got a little more untidy (not horrible) so I gave a bit extra. We usually get the room cleaned every other day.

The receipt will show 18% and 20% of your bill. We tipped someone around there. The tip can get quite high $38 for 2 of us at some places. Those inflated Disney food prices can ring up a high tip.
