Draining the Moat

Where is this new bridge going?

Look for the thread "New Bridge" in the General Discussion forum. Other people and I have surmised that they'll be replacing the bridge by the Crystal Palace when the draining is complete.

That's probably why they decided to drain the whole thing rather than dam it up like with Liberty Square's bridge. WIth having to do work in mutliple locations, they figured a full draining would be easiest and fastest.

So no more bridge from Crystal Palace to the Aland walkway until they rebuild a new one. (yes, I know that entire area is blocked off)

The bridge didn't seem that bad when I saw it last time. I wonder what the new one will look like.

Oh yeah, it is also drained all the way around the Treehouse too: http://twitpic.com/xy9ws

Water all gone by afternoon. Looks like some sort of utility tubing in the moat. The bottom of the big 'pond' on TL was beginning to dry.

I was at MK today. The moat looked really disgusting. In addition to the black muck, I saw more than a bit of trash and, I think, a hardhat that had seen much better days. Shrunken Ned's Junior Jungle Boats was blocked off with refurb walls--presumably related to the moat drainage. With the combination of the crane behind the Castle, walls at Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station, tarps at Crystal Palace and the drained moat, the Castle Hub area is becoming Constructionland for the short term.

Well, there goes the answer to people who believed that the hub could not be considered a land after Toontown Faire is dropped. Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Constructionland. Still seven lands.

Wait until the smell comes...

you will NEVER hear the end of it!

Remember the draining of Future World @ Epcot? Smelled like dead fish for a while.

I wonder if that conduit was part of the original electrical guidance system for the swan boats that failed soon after they opened, and brought about the installation of the dual water jet steering.

I would imagine so, as why would they have utility conduit in the moat when MK was designed to keep all such utilities in the utilidors.

Does anyone know when the moat will be refilled? We are going down in March 10-17 and would hope that it might be refilled by then. I am already a little upset about the construction wall/walls that they are going to be up around the front of the castle. It will be my childs first trip to Disney and I hope that the pictures of her walking to the castle for the first time don't have huge walls going half way up the castle. Anyways any addition info about how high up these walls may go and when the moat will be refilled would be great!

And I did look at http://www.wdwmagic.com/Attractions...Cinderella-Castle-ready-for-refurbishment.htm

Is the wall/scrim going to cover the whole front or just the sides toward the moat? Thanks in advance!

It could be for dozens of reasons.

Just off the top of my head, if they had to run a new circuit to some kiosks, running it in the moat might be the easiest way to do path create.

Maybe there are walker ducts with handholds from the utilidors nearby, maybe not.

If there is anything new that requires a path, dropping it in the moat is an easy and low cost way to do it.

The title of this thread sounds like a euphemism for going potty. I thought that it might be another thread on the Adventure Land bathroom fix. :)

That reminds me.... the photos show nothing of the old Swan Boats guide rails by the castle. Which means they are gone. Which means underwater work / draining the moat was done before to achieve this. Which may mean any other Swan Boat infrastructure is also gone. Which means these pipes may be for something else.

That`s a lot of assumptions!

And down it goes.. Im sure its full of trash from stupid people.

Being a longtime firefighter, I've had plenty of experience with "trash" that people dump in waterways. We get called out to drag for bodies when people are assumed to be lost/drowned. Sadly, this does happen and will sometimes be out there for 12+hours dragging with hooks and prodding with polls trying for a recovery.

Being a gruesome job to begin with, when you actually hook "something" you almost don't want to pull it up but alast, you have a job to do. Luckily, I haven't hooked what we were looking for, but instead have found all kinds of wonderful stuff that people throw away in major waterways.

I've pulled up window air conditioning units, bicycles, lawn chairs, a couch, a Hard Rock Cafe leather jacket, dozens of tires, chains, car bumpers, a car door, radiators, televisions, and a sewing machine!

People will throw away ANYTHING if they can get away with it. MK is lucky that people can only carry in and hide small stuff!
