Draining the Moat

Glad to see some money being spent. It's easy to see that TDO is at least attempting to tidy up most of the Magic Kingdom, mostly Fantasyland, to give way to the FYL Expansion. It'd be cool if they incorporated some fireworks barges into the moat, like they did for World of Color where it goes up and down the lake. Or maybe some fountains here and there. But that won't happen so I'm satisfied that they are at least doing SOMETHING!

Question...Isn't the moat system a closed system? Where did all that mud come from?

Settling dust from the last X number of years; decomposing leaves and grass; duck pooh.

The conduit in question looks to be very professionally installed along the toe of the slope. Very tidy and intentional. I'm sure it serves (or served) a very important purpose and couldn't have been installed in the tunnels due to the path it needed to take.

Now, the mess of piping in the middle of the canal, being held down by concrete blocks - I really hope that's only there for drainage and was just put there. That's a mess.

Asking a stupid question here, but is the moat lined completely of concrete, or is there a dirt bottom? It's really hard to tell from the pics because of the existing "stuff" on the bottom. I'm assuming its all concrete, but wanted to know for sure.

All concrete. All of the waterways in the MK have concrete banks and bottoms. This ensures that they have no infiltration of soil, and that they can maintain the water levels precisely.

This includes JC and Rivers of America, both of which have track systems in the bottom for the boats.

They have tracks? Didn't know that. Any pictures?
