For the record, TOT is not as bad as many believe. It's only the suspense and the idea of the drop. You miss out on so many levels...

Epcot Explorer, Evan, whatever your name is, I still won't ride ToT. But you can do SM. If you can do Mission: Space, Test Track, or EE, you can definitely do SM.

I just have a hard time believing that the longest wait for a ride was Haunted Mansion for 30 minutes and you had "time" to go through SM's queue but not enough "time" to ride the two and a half minutes because you didn't feel like wasting "time" to ride a ride you haven't ridden since 2001. Just ride it. You won't regret it. Experience that track layout that's the one thing better than what we have here at Disneyland. ;)

I got my friend who is terrified of heights and drop rides to ride ToT this past trip because I tried Orange Mission:Space for the first time (and now I feel like a baby for never doing it before.) He hated it. We rode again so he could see if he liked it when he knew what was going to happen (and so he could actually pay attention in the queue) and he still hated it

Only took us 20 min to get on and off Space.

BTW, Evan did not ride HM with the 30 min wait, that we me. He was at MVMCP on Friday night, I'm sure he had minimal waits.

I was at Kingdom on Monday. We did not meet up on that day.

I agree that this new version of SSE is a bit more generic, but I think the bland narration has as much to do with that than anything else. In all honesty, its too bad they didn't do more of an overhaul on some of the scenes to showcase new technology. The ride still exudes a communication feel rather than a "future innovations/technologies" feel.

Great report thus far. Eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Yep, it's the narration. Human progress depends on communication, so I get that; but the narration sounds like a second-grade history lesson. :brick:

I'm also enjoying the report.

QFT. I was absolutely terrified of ToT when I first rode in 2003 (and how I conquered all these thrill rides single-rider style, I'll never know), and it completely blew me away, both at how much fun it ended up being, and the incredible show.

20 Mins. Compared to less then two on the ride? I don't care, no good excuse there. It's like getting up to the doorknob and saying you didn't have time to turn it.

Anyways, sorry to get on your case Evan, but as a fellow former "I'm fine with whimpy me" person, I've found it an invaluable resource to conquer the excuses. Plus it comes with the territory of appreciating theme park design. You'll never be able to say "It's the same ride" when it comes to Space Mountain now, until you ride it. Even if everyone else says it, you can't even agree. You gotta' live with that.

Having no opinion on Space Mountain now.

I couldn't live with that.

Nice report, EE.

Glad you were able to spend more than a day up at Da World. But I do wish you'd get to spend a week or more up there. You miss so much of the WDW experience, which is so much more than the parks.

I can't agree with you about Journey. I hate it. It is just godawful. And to think it replaced a much more advanced version loaded with full sets, lighting and effects ... and two versions and $70 million later, it isn't pulling in the numbers the original was its last few years.

Glad you finally did TT ... I did it three times (shockingly). It isn't bad, but it is cold and industrial and WoM didn't have to die for it. Disney could have easily kept it and added a typical soundstage building out back and still had it loop around the front. I guess that's why I dislike it so much.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't do Space Mountain (as much as it sucks). I would strongly advise you, and anyone with motion sickness issues to get medicated from a doctor, and join the fun. So many folks miss Disney's best attarctions because of 'issues' that can easily be treated.

Anyway ... enjoying the read ... and glad again you had a good time (you should have asked a certain Spirit to arrange for EMH entry too!)

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. Enjoying the talk in this thread.

So true. The innoventive visual effects in the 5 main original dark rides were stunning and put most of what came after to shame. Imagine what todays dark rides would look like if the visual fx were comparable and as lavish, imaginative and as well funded but used todays tech?

July 08 was my first to see the new SSE, with just the top down projection apparent. I know, since I was trying to tape it and frustratingly had to aim at the only source to capture any meaningful images.
I bet we will see that in Mystic Manor over at HKDL, and hopefully in TLM for DCA and our new FL.

Sad about SSE's Matrix. Maybe the effect is just spotty? It really was quite full and being projected from both sides in Aug- you could even see the light from the projectors.

Yep...there are even lines in the script that deal directly for "Communications technologies". It's really a synthesis of the two themes.

I did Space!....In 2001. I just really did not want to waste my time with the same ride I rode back then, and 40 mins on a MVMCP night really is too much.

Nice report, EE.

Well, it seems that we will be making another journey up there in about 6th months. Maybe a little longer than this one.

I know that Journey, for all intensive purposes is "bad". However...it was worse. The days of the Imagination Scanner and a soundless, characterless ride really were bad. At least this one has Figment and some music back. At least there's some color. It is nothing compared to the original, and classic JII, but this is passable, seeing what we DID get, ORIGINALLY was far, far worse.

Got you 100% on TT. The WoM/Track/Soundstage idea has been in my head too. Shame that WDI couldn't do that....But I think that we can blame GM for that.

I've already said my piece on SM. Not scared of it, nor in need of meds. It's just not my thing.

Glad you are enjoying it...and yes, next time, EMH. :D

(Love this one! Waited a few mins for it, and proud that I actually got it. )

Here are the new Poinciana towers in the LoW/White Dove Lights planter.

OK, onto WS!
4204409551_6afbdb4e1b.jpg

Spent the majority of the day here, and if possible, I love it more, for it. Such a dynamic, calm, immersive place. Disney is doing themselves a disservice by not promoting it, by not refereshing it, by just leaving it as is. That said, though, it's amazing. Don't know why, but the whole place just clicked for me. You show me any place in Disneyland, or in DisneySEA, or in Paris, or even in the new sections of Hong Kong for theming, and I will proudly tell you that World Showcase is just as good, if not better.
4204410497_9dc020d88f.jpg

As you can see, I was very thrilled with the upkeep, and the general mood for the place. Very festive, very welcoming, it compliments the cold (good anytime but the Holidays!) and stoic feeling that FW produces. There was minimal decor for the pavilions, the best at Germany (Some nice MK-ish garlands) and at Italy. Mexico's Plaza also had a festive look to it.

Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Great pics, sounds like you're having a very good time.....

I think the one thing I was disappointed about at EP (outside of LoW), was the lack of garland on many of the lightposts around the park, which had been present in years before. But overall I though the individual countries were nicely decorated.

Yes, that was the only thing missing from WS. The rest looked very nice.

Glad you are enjoying, even at this super slow rate I am updating at! :o

OK, attractions time.

Starting from right to left...Mexico! El Rio Del Duck. Looked fine. Nothing to really report, save for the observation that, on a day when EVERYTHING had a line (including Figment!!) this didn't. Real improvement over Teimpo, huh?:brick: While I don't mind Donald and the 3 Cabs here, it still would have been nice of they would have kept the original, far more classy attractrion intact.

Norway! Maelstrom actually looked pretty good. Sets were cleaner than last time, fiber optics were working, waves and "lightening" (I miss the Telsa coil. damnit!) were going strong, too. Much better than last years' journey where it seemed like nothing worked. One problem....The flame projectors in the Viking AA scene. :lookaroun:ROFLOL: Unless Third Shift wants you to see the village and it's people all on fire....they need to be realigned. Everything looked to be burning.

China- Circlevision looked fine, few spots here and there. Or dust.
4205173460_2af1fd872a.jpg

The picture above is a reflection of China. :lookaroun

Browsed Germany and Italy...You saw the decor. However...notable for Italy...I think the lad behind it has been cleared!! None of the tall trees in that are still around. Certainly gives more validity to the Pizzeria concept.Hope that there is some nice Roman Ruins, too...

4204403715_6b7fa67241.jpg

(See what I mean? Empty!)

Next...American Adventure. A favorite of mine, as it is the intersection of two passions, EPCOT and American History. Fantastic stuff here. And a fantastic show was seen as well. No audio cutting out or missing, save for the song "Rosie the Riveter" Almost sure that it has been cut...has it? The rest looked and sounded good. Projection was very crisp, and the new arrangement for Golden Dream is growing on me...

...But the ending of this show is my only complaint. It's very beautiful...but has anyone else ever thought that it feels awkward? The music builds, Franklin and Twain conclude...and chords.:lookaroun And then the Torch lights up. And the then curtains around the statues go up. And then go down. And then the lighting changes. It's really lovely, but it just feels...fragmented. And the Audience does not know what to do. Some start applauding. Others half get up, others just sit there. If this show is ever overhauled, it really should go further into the 20th Century, and hopefully have a more concise and fluid ending.
