Saw the link posted at Disney and More. The Time magazine issue is available in full on Google: http://books.google.com/books?id=AUAEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&hl=ja#v=thumbnail&q=&f=false

Kal Kan is the official dog food of WDW! There is an advertisement on one of the pages touting this. The pic of Tom Sawyer island is funny. Nothing there. And the lack of vegetation around MK is really noticeable. And it states how DL only has 1 President, but here in Florida they have ALL 36 Presidents!

And of all the first pics that could have been taken for TIME, Guiseppi Cat?? really?

Thanks for posting that...very interesting! My family moved from Connecticut where I was born, to Florida in 1971 (I was 7 years old) We went to Disney World the first year it was open. I also liked seeing the advertisments in the Life Magazine you posted...I love seeing the old Pinto and all

Love the article but I think I like the old adds even more. Cigarette adds on every other page, new cars that cost $2700, the Polaroid camera, disposable camera flashes, and 200 lb console TV's with a whopping 19" screen.

I love that Pinto ad on the first page. I had a 71 Plymouth Horizon in that exact same two tone brown color scheme. :D

And the Champale one. Never mind the fact that it's an ad for Champale, which is funny enough, but the boss describes how impressed he is that the new hire is drinking it at his desk during lunch. Amazing !!!! :D

Wow was the park small back then. It looks like the skyway station is the only thing in Tomorrowland. Crazy. BTRR and Splash Mt as well as POTC are not there. Pretty much, its a small world, the train and 20k and HM are the big ticket items.

You should see some of the ads that were in the Sentinel's EPCOT opening section. Not only humorous for how "advanced" computers were then... but also for how lame the "ties" to EPCOT were that the advertisers tried to push. I'll try to scan or photo some of them and post them later.

How much was it? Been looking for it for ages. :brick:
Best bet is to look for the specific DATE of the magazine on eBay or alibris, rather than searching for "Disney World Opens." Odds are there are a handful out there in eBay stores that are listed by date only and might even be buy-it-now (and thus won't be ravaged by the Disney fan crowd :D)

I am sure you will get a kick out of this link to some old radio shack catalogs. The 1989 one with $1400 car phones, $1300 fax machines and a $700 20 meg hard drives is particularly funny.
